Took me awhile, but I finally grasped the idea of powerless arms. When I get to the top of my backswing, all I think of is firing the lower body, and the hands and arms just come along for the ride. Wow, what a difference! My last round, my friends said they stayed quiet because they knew I was on my way to a personal best. No looking back from here. Thanks again for all the tips posted. Paul, just hit my first hole in one today. I've been using your swing a few years now. Thanks. I finally have a system to fall back on when things slip. Much appreciation.
Having followed your tips and now having had a personal lesson from you; my swing thoughts are simplified and I am hitting the ball farther. It's taken a couple of months to really understand the feeling of what my body should be doing. The results are impressive; I am now the longest in my group and was the shortest hitter before your lessons. I have always had what appeared to be an effortless smooth swing, but with no power. Now that I comprehend how to correctly rotate and turn off the upper body tension my shots are crisp and longer. I can not give enough praise of your teaching method. You have a genuine dedication to your students swing improvement.
I'm sold! I've watched many of your video tips but after watching this one and "Golf Transition-How To Use Your Hips In The Downswing" I am ready to learn your effortless, pain free swing.
What a great video, thanks Paul. I've had a back operation so this video has definitely highlighted some areas that I need to be aware of. Only found your channel recently so I have lots to watch. Love the easy to understand instructions!
Over the past 10 years, I've had, if I can remember them all, at least 6 operations on my Spine. I miss playing golf horribly....just as I played....horribly... I spoke with my Neurologist at my appointment yesterday about the possibility of me returning to the game. He gave me the go ahead, after explaining I would, of course, probably need to work with a Course Pro on my approach to my swing. I am learning a HECK OF A LOT from this video....thank you very much!!! 1 question: as you speak about the position of your Left Leg on the Follow-Through, to help relieve the Torque and Pressure on the Spine, would it help or harm my swing or Spine if I was to, just slightly, rotate my Left Foot....from the 12 O'Clock position to possibly the 10 or 11 O'Clock position to help my Spine get to point to virtually no torque or pressure? Thank you again for the great videos and tips!! Keith D.
Great stuff hereHaven't played in three weeks but practiced the body rotation and very very loose wrists in the backyard...about a hundred times a day.....went to the course yesterday...with those thoughts in mind....shot 36 on the front side...drives ...irons were straight long solid.Short game was non existent as I expected but this really works.
Paul Thanks, before pain free golf I could only play with the guys on Saturday Rest on Sunday, but now I get to play couples golf on Sunday with my wife Frank
Thank you for this Paul. I can recognise myself doing all of these during a game of golf. I shall practise your swing suggestions over this weekend and hope for an improvement on Monday.
Nice work Paul. At one time or another I have been guilty of most of these, but am trying to hit through and onto my front foot now. I play pretty well, but we can always improve and get healthier, eh? Perhaps my biggest flaw in this regard is to fire the hips too fast, and yet hang back a little on my back(right) foot. It produces shots that are slightly pulled and a back that slightly aches. :) Thanks again, Dan
Paul, just found your channel for the first time. I have some back disorders I'm dealing with. L5/L6 Disc and Sacroiliitis Pain is a constant. My Orthopedist said "you (me) will determine what you can and cannot do". I am going to try and use this method of staying more upright. I already turn well but I see my mistake with the over accentuated follow through lean in the back. I have to learn to finish forward and upright like you are showing. I found this a very informing post/instruction. Ed
Yes, you need to start following me. I have helped countless people play pain-free golf. I like you want to be taller. That is a huge key. Not too tall but not bent way over with any club (especially shorter ones). You can turn well ... this is good too. As far as getting to the forward foot this a huge. You lean back and you will kill your back. Need to lock the lead leg and have the back leg physically touch the forward leg. This is my touch the legs position. Follow this tip and you will see how to get there: ua-cam.com/video/7z5eUcSwlSk/v-deo.html Then of course it is completely turning off your arms. Once you set the top you are not hitting or helping it with your hands and arms. This is a huge key. Hitting hard is violent. You need to get the power with the coil and uncoil not with the arms. This will get you going: ***START HERE*** For people that have just found me start with these: Body Swing Concept: ua-cam.com/video/E8y9jEyY35k/v-deo.html Grip: ua-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/v-deo.html Hinge Rehinge: ua-cam.com/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/v-deo.html Alignment: ua-cam.com/video/VFZc0Wq282k/v-deo.html Secure Grip: ua-cam.com/video/YHCEPu9e_1k/v-deo.html Best Drill: ua-cam.com/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/v-deo.html Power the swing with the legs and hip not the hands and arms. Thanks Paul. I have hurt my back because I think I started to use tilt with my left shoulder (where the right hip goes up) so that my left shoulder is pointing steeper to the ground in my bsw. Sure i turned then. But I think this may have contributed to my right side lower back pain. I did this motion several times at home (without hitting any ball) . My usual swing is not a tilted way, I turn my shoulders more around my body and yes slighly flat. I appeciate if you could comment on this.Thank you.
It sure will cause pain. Think about it. You tilt to get to the ball. If you just rotated your shouders wouldn't you still be tilted? Yes. So why would you go down with the shoulder. It will be down because you are tilted. Get this and no more pain. So coil and if you are too flat lift the arms up into position.
The Body Swing is based on Swing Machine as I haven't changed my teaching in 25 years. I have expanded on powerless arms, swing plane, added new short cuts, how to gain distance, 2 review booklets and made it even more simple. This is more how I would teach today if someone was to come for lessons. So they are similar but different. You can't go wrong with either one.
I hope I get a reply to my comment as it appears that most don’t. Anyway, I like your swing philosophy but I have a question for you concerning lower back injuries: when I watch some of your swing videos you have a lateral side bend, particularly on the down and through swing and I understand why, because the shoulders have to be tilted at an angle downward on both the backswing and the downswing. I have also tried to do this in my swing but I have injured my lower back with I believe pulled muscles which go into spasm for two weeks. I am 69 and kept myself in good shape throughout my life and I am wondering what I need to do to stop this happening again in my golf swing when my back has healed, so any ideas?
You probably have too much tilt with your shoulders into the backswing. Try to think of them turning flatter to the ground on your swing. You need more rotation vs them going up and down like a see saw. This could possibly be whats making your back hurt so much. Its tough to tell without seeing your golf swing, you could also have a slide in your swing as this can also put too much pressure on your back muscles. You probably need better rotation. I try to answer as many comments as I can, but with 1000s of comments coming into UA-cam its tough to get to everyone plus my own websites and teaching lessons.
Thanks so much. I appreciate it. Yes, I am the guy who gets people to play pain free golf. in no way should you be in pain. If so, you are doing it wrong. Keep watching my tips and you will never swing in pain.
I don't like a really wide stance. Hard to get the weight off the back foot. It should be a feeling of shoulder wide with driver not necessarily that wide if you have really wide shoulders. Medium stance would be a ball narrower than that and a narrow stance for shorter clubs would be 2 more ball narrower.
No need to do that. I can get you playing pain free in no time. Just a different way to do it. ***START HERE*** Body Swing Concept: ua-cam.com/video/E8y9jEyY35k/v-deo.html Grip: ua-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/v-deo.html Hinge Rehinge: ua-cam.com/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/v-deo.html Secure Grip: ua-cam.com/video/Z8K3Gctkz7A/v-deo.html Best Drill: ua-cam.com/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/v-deo.html Power the swing with the legs and hip not the hands and arms. You would have early extension because you are tying to hit the ball with your arms. Think of the word "lag." It means something is trailing behind something else. If you have early extension you are moving the club before your body. You need to turn your arms off and move your body first in the downswing. If so, your hands and arms would be lagging behind your body rotation. This is what I teach.
Make sure you are getting fully vertical overtop of the left leg. Belt buckle left of target and the weight is on the very tip of the back toe. Most people never finish so they hang back a little creating compression in their lower back. Watch: ua-cam.com/video/pCzCGEbThio/v-deo.html
I suppose we are all guilty of trying to emulate the pros . The problem with that is that the pros can spend hours on warm ups , flexibility , massages and exercises . And they are in good shape. We can’t and aren’t.
Well I do get people to swing like pros in 4 positions. The problem is people don't have the shape of the swing as they try to work on a pro move once a week 20 mins before the go play. Get the shape of the swing first then make each move better. I am not in good shape and I can do it.
@@paulwilsongolf That’s interesting Paul . You are saying that a pro like swing is more within our grasp than we think?
