- Today's tour is in Marburg, Germany. Marburg is, quite literally, a fairy-tale town. The Brothers Grimm studied here from 1802-06, and were so enchanted by the town’s medieval flair, cobbled alleys, stunning architecture and lush countryside, that they weaved elements of this town in their famous fairy tales. Painter Otto Ubbelohde also drew inspiration from this town while working on his illustrations for the Grimm fairy tales. Marburg is an important stop in Germany’s Fairy Tale Route, and offers several faity-tale-themed tours to visitors.

@@820gt I live in Marburg as well and as I grew up here, to be more specific on the 'Richtsberg', which was/is often seen as such a rundown corner, and I always loved the old city center in comparison to the highrise buildings on my home mountain as both the castle and them are quite prominent, if you drive to Marburg from the south via the B3. For me it always was a great mixture of heritage and the diverse present.
Ich war selbst da und kann bestätigen, das diese eine der schönsten Städte Deutschlands ist, klein aber fein. Eine Reise lohnt sich. Zu sehen sind hier die Oberstadt, die luth. Pfarrkirche, das Schloss, die Universitätskirche mit alter Uni, die Lahn und eine Fachwerkstraße zwischen Rudolfsplatz und Bahnhof.

I was fortunate to spend my childhood and youth in Marburg. I left 35 years ago but I still go back once a year at least. Funnily I am now living in Barcelona and I must say that’s an amazing city.

Not really, in the walkedtrough part of Marburg there are a lot of small cafés and bars as over 20000 of the close to 80000 citizens are students of the Philipps university 😅
