I really like watching this type old machinery. My Grandpop was a blacksmith in Pennsylvania in the late 1800's/early 1900's. I can just imagine him working on something like this. Thanks for posting!
Excellent!! Refreshing to NOT have silly background music. Nice sound. Our family tractor when I was a kid was a "Farmall Regular." I spent more than my fair share cranking that thing up. Hay in the summer, Buzzsaw in the fall, and snowplow in the winter.
Bravo man,Well done,I like-it.The mashine is pace of history and technology.Keep-it running and teach some family members to start the tractor. Thanks for uploading,Best regards,VIC
1) There isn't always a river next to the highway. 2) Steam isn't more efficient, just cooler. 3) If you break down, it might be more than just having to refill. Your boiler could explode, your heat source could diminish, etc.
The Overtime is the British comparison of the American Waterloo Boy. How the tractor got its name was farmers were told that they would have to work ovetime to support the war effort and on the logo of the tractor it says 'The Overtime Tractor... A Worker' on the clock its 5 past 6 and the farmer is still out on his tractor working. I have a lot of info on Overtime Tractors, message me if your interested in knowing anything.
Just like an old John Deere (which it was the grandfather of). Turn the fuel on, open the cylinder cocks to reduce compression, prime it, then spin it over.
Radiator. Water flows through that grate-like structure where the fan is to cool off before returning to the engine. ... I may or may not have it worded right, but I know what it does, haha.
Turning the wheel make the fan blow left or right turning the whole tractor or maybe it is for cooling you can't really be sure with these crazy old tractors.
yeah, i know what your saying, but if you know the tractor well enough you can trust it. its also kinda difficult to turn it any other way. Anyway, I have lost one front tooth when I fell off my bike when i was a kid!
1 advise, never push the crank, you don't want to be pushing it when it kicks back. I've always been told to only pull the crank, that way it won't break your arm, or teeth, or.... :D
because people were getting hurt on them and also OSHSA had to get involved now we actually don't have tractors but super heavy duty computers with tractor functions.
Yeah ... hit a bump, topple forwards into the "knitting", get yourself quite badly mutilated without the machine even noticing the extra load. Also newer ones may not be as charming or end up lasting for a century or more, but they're more powerful, faster, easier to operate, more reliable, more efficient, more comfortable to ride (and have actual weather protection for both mechanicals and operator), more controllable, have more things you can connect to them, comparatively cheaper... so on and so forth.
actually, mobile steam engines are about three times less efficient than internal combustion engines and are heavier per unit of power, because of the requirement of a boiler with water plus the weight of the engine itself and the fuel. If you run out of fuel in a steam engine you have to add more fuel, not water. What is really efficient is a combination of IC engine plus a steam turbine, though it's very heavy for a car, and with the best efficiency you have electric motors. Regards!
do you know how far the nearest river is for some people let alone some kind of water, quite far my friend, steam engines are the farthest things from efficient they are beyond wasteful yes they make some insane power but they are very inefficient.Hell the reason the stopped using it was because there was so much smog in the cities with allot of steam engines from the smoke.
Woo... lots of exposed whirly bits. Can imagine there were some interesting medical reports filed as a result of this machine being misused. Is that a 2-cylinder hit-and-miss, by the way? Don't think you get many of those...
sorry din't think about that when i first glanced it it didn't click with me what i was looking at take that with about 24 hours lacking sleep and things start to look strange!!

Wonderful, Thanks very much for filming this tractor. It is great to see the old girl strut her stuff.

So much to do to get it started!
Today you turn the keys around and woom there it is!
Love those old machines!
That is so cool. Hard to get ready to start but once its ready looks like it cranks easy.....
Great old tractor - thanks for the demo!

I would drive this to work.
And everyone in the parking lot would hate me.
And my heart would be filled with glee.
cool. love the old chap. nice tractor.
never seen those before, very nice
Some serious hardware going on!
Sounds lovely
Can’t guarantee that
A true treasure.
This is so cool!

Great video

Nice an smooth
@mspenrice yes it is a two cylinder, its not a hit n miss engine though, its throttle governed
Thank you for the video
From what I've read these are pretty rare as not that many were brought to the uk

@Billytricks131 I thought it went to a new collection in Devon, but things may have changed, I don't know.
Awesome!!

It seems to run smoother than John Deere's, but it has a 7.6L twin!
there was no ignition key required,
this is more like a ceromonial start up procedure
but very nice traktor thanks for sharing
Overtime tractors were Waterloo Boy tractors built in England under license to John Deere during WWI.
That was high tech then...
Awesome machine ...John Deere had diesel twins later on I had a G model.שלום

I have a soft spot in my hart for waterloo's
I love the old tractors , I don t know why they quit making them. is there anyone is making them anymore?
+kazuza9 ... because they came up with better designs, I guess?
because people were getting hurt on them and also OSHSA had to get involved now we actually don't have tractors but super heavy duty computers with tractor functions.

+mspenrice in the face of inflation tractors then in today's currency cost just as much or less as a brand new JD or NH.
really? I figured them for a pretty serious investment, hence them being kept running for several decades...
That old engine has quite an appealing sound...at least to me, anyways.
I'd love to buy something like that.
какие симпатичные и стабильные обороты двигателя!

Cool tractor,he have sound how Ursus c-330 :D
That looks like a John Deere tractor with the green color.
I didn't think that funnel was going stay there once it got moving.
Anyone know if that's a vernier coupling to the magneto? Looks like it could be. Bastards of things to time.
in 1916 did they make the rims and wheels red instead of yellow like the 19s and 20s
two cylinder? Looks like the rocker arms are exposed and it's a horizontal cylinder layout...
Where did this come from? This runs on liquid fuel, not steam.
Id say that was a good startup

Whats the fan on the front used for?
Hi Harry I heard the other day that this tractor is gone to New Zealand is this true?
i want one :'(

"Back in the day" before lawyers ruled civilized people.
mspenrice it is not hit and miss it is throttle governed
This thing is worth over $100K US :-) An "N" Model Waterloo Boy sold for $162K at auction a couple of years ago.
whats the use of the fan if it's not hitting the cylinders that's what it's there for cooling??
+Robin Barnard you clearly have no clue how a radiator works
sorry din't think about that when i first glanced it it didn't click with me what i was looking at take that with about 24 hours lacking sleep and things start to look strange!!
Robin Barnard
ah, ok
If you forgot where you left the crank it was gonnabe a bad day if the hay weas high😎
Had to go back and pick up your funnel, didn't ya?
how many gears does it have, 2 ? 1reverse, 1 forward?
this tractor has been sold ?
Везёт мужику. Я тоже так хочу.. : )
зачетный пепелац.
What does "Overtime tractor" mean?
runs on what ?
damn that's visceral
modern machines are pale by comparison
ghost ride the tractor lol now the will be the new thing to do
You probably shouldn't push or pull it with your teeth chap...
