I will acknowledge my bias, but disregarding 2 and 3, Transformers (2007) is actually an amazing Sci Fi film, period. The sound design and CGI was and still is groundbreaking especially for that time. Admittedly, lots of the humour falls flat now, but that is a product of the times, much like how most of the seth rogan films dont hold up like they used to. All this and in comparison to a lot of big budget movies today, some ingenuity and effort was put into this film, and the love and care shows. But dodgy humour aside, this first film has incredible pacing, a cohesive story line that marries multiple plot threads together, amazing CG, a killer sountrack and sound design and it is hard to argue that the film isnt iconic. Overall, I genuinely consider Transformers (2007) comparable to Avatar in regards to how well it contributes to cinema and the SCI FI genre. Only thing that holds it back IMO is some of the humour.

My favorite aspect of the movie is how the Decepticons systematically work towards their goal of reviving Megatron and getting the all-spark. Blackout accessing the military database while using Scorponok to wipe out the witnesses, Frenzy on air-force-one and in the dam, Barricade tracking down Sam and the glasses, the communications blackout, Starscream being the goalie in the sky. It all works to make the decepticons seem utterly unstoppable. A plan like that in real life would have any country or even the world on its knees. How would you even fight something like that without the autobots?

A bit of a fact check: Bay did not want to direct Transformers 3 either, he wanted to produce it but the studio couldnt find anyone in time before production started so they brought him back. TF4 was mostly the same but more money since he did want to stop there. In the end, tho, both movies went on to make more than a billion dollars in the box office, so he did get a lot out of them. Still think he shouldnt have directed TF5 tho, that movie needed a better director not because he is bad but because Paramount (main studio behind the movies) kept fucking him over with the runtime, stuff added in and etc, that I think he just wasnt the right guy to handle all of that, especially alone.

Transformers (2007) was enjoyed from both critics and audiences. Every other Transformers movie besides Bumblebee had an Audience Score of less than 60%.
“Turning into incomprehensible bullshit” I don’t see what’s so wrong abt that, we’re talking about giant transforming robots. C’mon, dude. Also, from what I remember, they say in TLK that Quintessa lied abt being their creator.
Great?! It was annoying, the characters were paper thin, the humor was juvenile, the story was uninspired, and they didn't even know where to point the camera during the final fight! How is that "great"?!
At least I’m not alone. The first three Transformers films are way better then most big budget franchise films we get today. Dumb mindless fun, but has a lot of care put in the action and the effects look great. Can’t say that about some films today.
If the bayverse films are just dumb mindless fun then how are they better than the films that try to be more than dumb fun?. That doesn't necessarily make them better in terms of quality or proper storytelling. Entertaining sure but nothing of substance in terms of consistent lore or storytelling. Even tf prime which was literally inspired by the movies had better storytelling in comparison
IM STILL GOING TO CONTINUE WATCHING THIS BUT I GOT TO SAY I AGREE WITH YOU 100% that Transformers (2007) is still great 16 YEARS LATER, still one of my favorite movie, and I actually had the chance to go see Transformers 2007 in theaters for its 15th anniversary
It doesn't matter how many times I've seen the movie, the scene with Optimus and the other Autobots arriving on Earth will always give me the good kind of chills. Between the CGI on the Autobots and Decepticons, the musical score and the incredible cinematography, it always catches my interest. I've been saying that I periodically feel like a fake fan, because it took me until the 2007 movie to hear Peter Cullen speak as Optimus Prime to really bask in the glory of the character of the Autobots' Supreme Commander. My obsession with giant sentient alien robots started in 2001 with the anime style Robots In Disguise series starring Neil Kaplan as the voice of Optimus Prime.
We should have gotten a Cybertron prequel after dark of the moon either an animated movie in the game style but on Cybertron or live action movie prequel.. Imagine the prequel pulling from the foundation comics it will make the three movies even more convincing and make Sentinels turn even more surprising.
Idk man i definitely disagree about the take on the Cybertron movie. The Transformers (Autobots and Decepticons) are such interesting characters with tons of in depth history that ppl love, it could totally work. I mean ppl are fans of things like Star Wars that are all aliens, and animated movies with non human characters so i dont see a problem with doing the same but for Transformers, if they can do what TFP did, and WFC/FOC did and make us vonnect and care about the Autobots and Decepticons then it'll be a great movie, we know it's possible cause connecting with fictional/nonhuman characters is already such a common and accepted thing that movies can accomplish. And with complex characters like the ones we have in Transformers I'm honestly not as skeptical as you and maybe some others
Damn right it's still good. Watched it again with a friend of mine a couple weeks ago. Great action, great CGI, cool vehicles, cool relationships with the soldiers, nice humor, and just cool all around. First time I saw it, I was.... 9, I think? Maybe 10? Now I'm 25 and still love it. That started my infatuation with TF content. Who doesn't like giant fighting alien robots? I like ROTF for the action and humor (aside from the two cursed humping scenes), and DOTM is now my FAVORITE OF ALL TIME since I saw it earlier this week with my friend too. It was just fucking awesome. I dont even bat an eyelash at the genocide in Chicago because the Autobots still save the day 💀 AOE was OK. It's great for clips and edits. I watch TLK again with my friend tomorrow. Eek. I already know that I'm still going to think it's ONLY good for clips and edits because that movie is a bit of a mess 😂 My friend and i can pause the movie and talk about plot inconsistencies, or things that were clearly forced to happen in each movie, and yet, the trilogy was still very enjoyable.
@@MrWaSpY-Trn Let's not forget the death threats Bay got during still filming the first one.....They ask why people call some fans toxic..Can't take them seriously...and they suck at giving real reasons to hate them they just compare it to g1 and say the Bayverse looks like they are metal from a blender or something retarded like that lmfao. They are alien robots from outer space you think they are supposed to be recognizable to human tech completely? 😂
They gotta give Prime a captain America moment in this new trilogy where all the past autobots and new ones, decepticons (who have a change of heart), predacons, and maximal all gather behind him as they prepare to take on unicron. Just imagine the chills when he says Optimus: Autobots…..Rollout! And they all charge at unicron
Yeah THE FIRST FEW MINUTES OF TRANSFORMERS 2007 is amazing, especially BLACKOUT TRANSFORMATION!!!!! It gives us the audience at least a feeling on how they were going to pull off the transformation effects, which still holds up!!!!!!
Great breakdown! I will be a defender of the Bayverse till I die. I am curious about your thoughts on Sam’s parents. To me they are hilarious and I 100% love them in these movies. 2007 will always be the best, however my favorite is DOTM. I just love the whole space race story. Looking forward to watching the other vids.
The first movie worked so well because at it's heart it's a story about a boy and his car. The third movie was decent. The rest were not very memorable.
Real talk yo this film has a special place in my heart! shit is just mad nostalgic, the soundtrack, the action obviously the CGI, and shit was way ahead of its time! RIP BERNIE MANN
Cool thing I like to point out whenever anyone complains about the logistics of the final battle. They say, "Why would the military decide to hide The Allspark IN THE MIDDLE OF A DENSELY POPULATED CITY of all places? The fight is only taking place here for the sake of maximum destruction and Bayhem." But in actuality, the army knew The Hoover Dam was being used to mask The Cube's signal from the Decepticons. So it would follow that office buildings and skyscrapers would have a similar effect.
ALSO. On the topic of Prime and Megatron's battle being a total lopsided squash match. I'm completely and thoroughly confident that Optimus was holding back the whole fight. And it's hilarious because the one move he actually connects with, he winds up swiping Megatron's leg off. When they drop Megs into the sea at the end, he's missing his leg. The jets didn't do that. Optimus did that with _just his arm._ No sword necessary. It seems like all Prime was willing to do in this situation was the bare minimum, to just kinda get in Megatron's way and let him throw him around a little as a distraction so Sam could get The Allspark to the soldiers. He wasn't willing to duke it out with Megatron and get bloody because at that point he still regarded Megatron as his brother. Obviously that changes later on.
I grew up with this movie. I kinda hate the rest of the Bayverse because this film did such a good job at doing "realistic" transformers correctly. The later films feel like they loose focus of the transformers, and when they are there, they usually are surrounded by so much violence that I really can't enjoy what's going on. But this film did a really good job at balancing everything out, and without us having this really strong first foot in the door, I doubt Hasbro would be willing to put in the effort to reboot the series with Rotb and Bumblebee.
I like his movies they brought back transformers , g1 transformers have bad offensive jokes, story line go no where live action movies I can tell transformer apart., Transformers g1 have them acting drunk, some gay jokes, sexual harassment joke, transformers g1 always have decepticons try rule earth and cybertron , decepticons g1 episodes power glide crush dumb episode , auto bots wear alien masks to be in Hollywood movie
One of the coolest bits about the arrival of the Autobots and how they transform for the first time has a two pronged reason as to why they drew it out. Number one was an out of universe reason for the special effects team to *really* show off just how much time and effort they had placed in the Transformers, especially when they're up close and personal, being able to see virtually every detail of the vehicle become the Transformer. and the second is an actual in universe explanation being that this is the first time the Autobots are transforming to their new forms so they need to let their bodies adjust to the proportions and new add ons of the vehicle they have chosen to transform as. And the end result is, to this day, one of the absolute best cinematic moments in history.
I like your point about the importance of human characters. I feel much like you that people always go overboard with it, but miss how they ground the story
I'll never forget the feeling I had the first time I saw that opening scene with Blackout destroying that base. It was so amazing in every possible way.
Actually, Ironhide and Ratchet were running because they were defending Sam, and most importantly, expecting an attack. I think it's a pretty well established fact that Cybertronians in the Bayverse are stronger in their robot forms vs their vehicle forms (typically) and they are ESPECIALLY vulnerable while Transforming (as Dropkick's demise proves, and he shouldn't be considered Bayverse but I digress). It shouldn't be surprising that smaller Transformers typically change quicker than bigger ones, which would also explain why Mudflap, Skids, and that Constructicon dump truck were parked next to eachother, the three knew who the other was, and were at a stalemate, the Constructicon probably believed that fight that would result from him Transforming to attack would be mutually assured destruction (even though for all intents and purposes, he likely believes those two Autobots are seasoned Warriors like Sideswipe, and not a couple of kids, add to that fact that he knows he's no Brawl, and he couldn't risk being incapacitated, which would take Devastator out of play). Also, some what ifs: What if Frenzy was smashed by Sam instead of being kicked? What if the The Cube was actually salvageable, and Optimus lied about it being destroyed to trick the Decepticons? What if the scene in Africa was Optimus showing the Star Harvester to Sentinel, and the two hatching a plan to open portals to other stars in order to get the Energon they need, thereby completely eliminating the necessity of Sentinel's "betrayal" and him claiming it's all just a ruse!
1 and 3 are definitely the best in my opinion, and I hate 5 with a burning passion. BUT I will say that 4 is also a solid story and a realistic aftermath of the events of 3. Having Optimus have to come to terms with the fact that not all humans are worth protecting, and some of them will actively betray and hunt them down despite everything the Autobots had done for them is a very cool direction to take the character, and completely fits the more gritty and realistic setting of the Bayverse in contrast to the usually more lightearted and optimistic cartoons. Not all people like it and that's fine, but Bayverse was a different take on the Transformers from the get-go, and I would've been disappointed if the Autobots never had to confront the darker side of humanity.
When people argue Bay made optimus a psychopathic lunatic, I argue that, he's a leader, a warrior, he's respectful, and has a challenging tone when he's being told things he doesn't necessarily agree with, but when he needs to fight, he can't really show mercy with enemies who wouldn't do the same when his back was turned, he needs to be ruthless
I just wanted to say that Quintessa isn’t their god and was only pretending to fool Optimus. I’m surprised he forgot about the Cube. Also, Devastator (except his enemy scrotum) was the best thing to appear in the trilogy. The Driller is a show off.
I remember when my mom took me and my uncle (her youngest brother) to go see this movie in theaters back in 2007. This movie is what made me fall in love with the franchise. (I was 9 years old at the time. I turned 10 that fall.) My first introduction to "Transformers" was with the 1986 movie.
The first 2 bayverse movies were something i watched with my aunt Hellie all the time She passed some time ago. But I recently bought the whole five movie collection and watched the first 2 films with my family If felt like I was temporarily bringing part of her back
31:10 what makes this scene more badass is that the bus exploding in half was actually a REAL bus. during the production, michael bay said that if the bus were CGI, it wouldnt look so appealing.
Too bad Jazz got the short end of the stick. He’s one of the best autobots in TF history. It was such a good movie tho. Unpopular opinion, but I find the jokes and humor to be absolutely hilarious
I wanna point out the tactics the autobots used to beat Brawl, because it's actually more subtle than you think. Jazz goes in first to disable as many weapons as he can. After he gets thrown over, Ironhide acts as the decoy. As the most powerful of the autobots besides Prime (presumably), Brawl concentrates all his fire on Ironhide. This allows Ratchet and Jazz to close in without taking fire, and they team up with the humans to take down Brawl Btw, can we appreciate Megatron's durability? Blackout died to three F22 missiles. Megatron took ten of those suckers and still kept going. My only wish is that Ironhide and Ratchet shot at Megatron too. Prime could have also got the chest shot instead of Lennox
My favourite Optimus Prime quotes in Transformers 2007 are "freedom is the right of all sentient beings" and "Were we so different?" And Megatron saying "I am Megatron!" Woah! Menacing! And "Oh so unwise" almost a little dark humour/you stupid human who do you think you're disobeying? Awesome movie Transformers 2007 is in my top 5 favourite movies of all time!😃
I don’t think they retconned bumblebee speaking in the next film, I think they retconned it in 2017 with the “I haven’t heard it since cybertron fell” line, because in ROTF we hear that he’s “having voice problems” which means it’s probably something new (despite what the tie in comics say)
Just stumbled upon this review and I gotta say your review style is very good. Kind of gives off a wholesome vibe 😂 I’ve always loved these films! Michael Bay took way too much shit for these movies. The Transformers movies since he left are missing something about them.

Transformers (2007) was enjoyed from both critics and audiences. Every other Transformers movie besides Bumblebee had an Audience Score of less than 60%.

I find it funny how Optimus is suicidal in all these movies •_• 36:56
“Turning into incomprehensible bullshit”
I don’t see what’s so wrong abt that, we’re talking about giant transforming robots.
Optimus Prime looking into the distance while giving motivational af speech with Linkin Park blasting in the background was when humanity peaked
Yeah just made me feel so excited and you know lets fucking go!!

15th anniversary!? when did that happen
@@TheRealRip-Tide Yeah it happened only for 2 days event: July 10th and 14th!! I went on the 10th
Same here it was amazing. I never got the chance to see the first one in theaters
My obsession with giant sentient alien robots started in 2001 with the anime style Robots In Disguise series starring Neil Kaplan as the voice of Optimus Prime.
the first 3 movies are great. idc what anyone says
We should have gotten a Cybertron prequel after dark of the moon either an animated movie in the game style but on Cybertron or live action movie prequel.. Imagine the prequel pulling from the foundation comics it will make the three movies even more convincing and make Sentinels turn even more surprising.
So much potential.
Great review! I'm surprise this video isn't getting much views. This film was my childhood and it introduced me to the Transformers Franchise.
I dont even bat an eyelash at the genocide in Chicago because the Autobots still save the day 💀
AOE was OK. It's great for clips and edits. I watch TLK again with my friend tomorrow. Eek. I already know that I'm still going to think it's ONLY good for clips and edits because that movie is a bit of a mess 😂
My friend and i can pause the movie and talk about plot inconsistencies, or things that were clearly forced to happen in each movie, and yet, the trilogy was still very enjoyable.
People bashed Bayverse even before the first drop of the 07 movie...
Yeah but no one listened because normal people don’t sit around talking crap for the sake of it, the internets not what it was back in 07

Geewuners are bunch of hypocrites
The real reason people hate on the movies: they heard some popular youtubers doing it
Or they just don't like them
The Bayverse along with Pirates of the Carribean are two movie franchises that should have stayed a trilogy.
They gotta give Prime a captain America moment in this new trilogy where all the past autobots and new ones, decepticons (who have a change of heart), predacons, and maximal all gather behind him as they prepare to take on unicron. Just imagine the chills when he says
Optimus: Autobots…..Rollout!
And they all charge at unicron
At least you did better job of reviewing transformers 2007 than both the blockbuster buster and bobsheaux
This movie is sooooo freaking nostalgic!!!!!
The three movies in trilogy was perfect is the fourth and five mess up the timeline
Real talk yo this film has a special place in my heart! shit is just mad nostalgic, the soundtrack, the action obviously the CGI, and shit was way ahead of its time! RIP BERNIE MANN
Yup i agree bro the transformers trilogy is still good great, some scene that i like to hear when Megatron said "I SMELL YOU BOY!" so interesting.
Well, if there some G1 people will see this. They'll be angry about this.
This video is amazing!!!
Yeah 4 and 5 are like glorified what if films lol they are so inconsistent too! - Luke
I like his movies they brought back transformers , g1 transformers have bad offensive jokes, story line go no where live action movies I can tell transformer apart.,
Transformers g1 have them acting drunk, some gay jokes, sexual harassment joke, transformers g1 always have decepticons try rule earth and cybertron , decepticons g1 episodes power glide crush dumb episode , auto bots wear alien masks to be in Hollywood movie
I always loved starscream and seen him being a bad ass is so satisfying
I like your point about the importance of human characters. I feel much like you that people always go overboard with it, but miss how they ground the story
Optimus: "But we were already too late."
16 years later, and I still have no idea what he meant by that.
That the deceptions arrived before them lol
Also, some what ifs:
What if Frenzy was smashed by Sam instead of being kicked?
This Version of Megatron is Still Terrifying to this Day.
I just wanted to say that Quintessa isn’t their god and was only pretending to fool Optimus. I’m surprised he forgot about the Cube. Also, Devastator (except his enemy scrotum) was the best thing to appear in the trilogy. The Driller is a show off.
For sure.
I remember when my mom took me and my uncle (her youngest brother) to go see this movie in theaters back in 2007. This movie is what made me fall in love with the franchise. (I was 9 years old at the time. I turned 10 that fall.)
My first introduction to "Transformers" was with the 1986 movie.
The first 2 bayverse movies were something i watched with my aunt Hellie all the time
She passed some time ago. But I recently bought the whole five movie collection and watched the first 2 films with my family
If felt like I was temporarily bringing part of her back
So this is paramount fault Michael have interest for tf 4 but they force him instead
That's how i got to know Linkin Park, but my favourite was the second movie with New Divide. It's the best song in the world.
I don't think that is too unpopular of an opinion
I find about half of the jokes in the first movie funny
@@CinnamonBob yeah but I’ve heard a ton of people hate on the humor because it’s “juvenile”
This allows Ratchet and Jazz to close in without taking fire, and they team up with the humans to take down Brawl
Btw, can we appreciate Megatron's durability? Blackout died to three F22 missiles. Megatron took ten of those suckers and still kept going. My only wish is that Ironhide and Ratchet shot at Megatron too. Prime could have also got the chest shot instead of Lennox
Bro describe me☠️ 10:02😔
I'd love to watch a movie made by this guy...
You’d make a good Sam witwicky
Kind of gives off a wholesome vibe 😂
I’ve always loved these films! Michael Bay took way too much shit for these movies. The Transformers movies since he left are missing something about them.
