I dislike the explanation as most people get it wrong. It is a different timeline, not universe. If more things caused the changes as opposed to just Cale changing things, it would be a different one. A parallel universe has fundamental things that are different: no dragons, vegetarian sharks, someone's or multiple people's sexuality being different. Those are examples of a different universe. What Cale/Kim Rok Soo did was change the timeline, a different choice from the original.
