But I'm going to try the safeguard dewormer that I have on hand , Bless you for sharing!💕❤💕

OMG thank you for this video. I have 30 chickens now, lost 2 recently. I could not find out what is going on with my chickens. And, like you, I do not have a vet near me being out in the country. Which brand do you prefer for your chickens? Could I email you another question?
Why the egg withdrawal? Do they taste bad? Or will we also get dewormed if we eat the eggs? I don't mind getting dewormed. EDIT: After a little research I found out the active ingredient in Safe-Guard, Fembendazole, does not require egg withdrawal like other dewormers
Thank you for your info And thank you for responding back to me the pallets that I had bought and I have returned I couldn’t get A straight answer from the company even though it said for many other species they told me it was only for horses , Cows, pigs, and turkeys, although I haven’t seen any worms in my chickens I have purchased a dewormer so that I may get them taken care of before winter since they have been free ranging all summer.
Thank you so much for your video. You have a beautiful farm, I love the animals! I’ve been having issues with my flock. I’ve lost two girls are ready. A third one seems to be quite sick and a few more are looking suspicious. They’re having liquid diarrhea at times. I do not see any worms, but with some of their symptoms, not eating much, that’s not all of them. Feeling thinner, their crops aren’t full at night, that some of them. Would you think or suggest deworming? I’ve been giving them Corid. Thank you for any advice.
I’m so sorry to hear of your trouble 🫶🏻 in general, we typically see coccidia and younger birds, and that’s what you would use to treat with corid. I have seen worm issues and birds as young as a few months as well.
Thank you for making this video!! I’m wondering if you give chickens safeguard a second time or is it just once and done? I finished the five days of safeguard. Let me know if you give your chickens a second or third dose after a certain amount of time? Only asking bc I had to give my dog three doses two weeks apart to kill eggs and larvae. Thank you again!!!
Valbazen to be fed without dilution or with water? 1/2cc per chicken or? Also when to repeat after withdrwal period? Please give a detailed information on this.
Thank you for this video! It’s been quite a journey trying to figure out dosage of Safe Guard for tapeworms. I only have 2 chickens so if I understood this correctly, it’s 3CC’s per gallon of water for 5 days, or 1CC on some bread for 5 days per chicken correct? I purchased SafeGuard. Thank you so much! I appreciate your help!
@@cmb52 You are correct. I found that out since it really didn't work for my chickens. I ended up using chilli flakes in their feed and that took care of the tapeworm issues. No more tapeworm! So yeah, don't spend money on meds and just give them chilli flakes. It's a natural dewormer apparently.
I have a question; the safeguard you put in the water and the other med you gave it to them individually? Are they both for 5 days? Thanks very appreciated.
Starting this today, 3ml per gallon of water fresh daily. 5 days straight for the whole flock. I have one infected chicken who has been declining for a couple weeks, we didn't know what it was at first so it's taken time to figure this out. Actually thought it was a niacin or vitamin deficiancy but realized as she got worse the gaping started. She is a fighter though! So we will stick by her until she gets better or decides to pass on. I'm shocked she's still kicking, she sleeps so much I always thought I'd find her one morning no longer with us but she is fighting to hold on. Praying we see a difference in a day or two of the Safeguard. She isnt eating but is drinking. Will update. Day 1 on fenbendazole 12/15/22.
I have 3 week old chicks. I need to treat the chickens for Giardia and the internet says give safeguard. So do I give safeguard to my chicks? To be on safe side?
Doseage on back of bottle says 2.3ML or 2.3cc per 100lbs of body weight for goats. So you have 150lbs of chickens you are treating? Ive heard that fenbendazole does not stay suspended in the water and sinks to the bottom. Do you see this happening? The common technique on the forums is to mix with water and add it to their feed. Just wondering because mine have worms and the FDA removed Wazine from the shelves.
@@eastofedenexotics7505 Thanks, I have 13 birds and added .6ML to two quarts warm water and shook it for 1 minute. They drink like camels in the morning and will empty the bowl in 2hrs. Then I refilled with fresh water for the day. Did that 5 days in a row. Now I have to treat for mites and will be using ivermectin pour-on on the birds, about 2-3 drops. I will also spray coop with an insecticide. What a mess!
Do you know how to give the safeguard to a chicken through a syringe like straight into their mouth? I would give it through water, but we have a molting hen, and I am unable to separate them:( also, i would wait to give it to them when she’s done, but I have one girl showing signs of gapeworm, and it’s effecting her breathing, so I need to help her quickly!!
I would have loved a reply on this. Rooster wheezing and no other signs so maybe gapeworm. Gave him and 9 hens bread with safeguard on it. That was yesterday, we’ll see! I am wondering if i should do that for five days.
@@TexasRivers I’m sorry I’m late to seeing this, but I had asked her on Instagram about it, and she said 1 cc a day of the liquid safeguard per chicken for 3-5 days (if giving it to them straight). And then the same about 10 days later for a follow up. But don’t worry if you didn’t do that! I think it’s hard to overdose a chicken on safeguard!
Hi Mojo HF! Do you have any information or experience with, "eye worms". I've found some articles and personal experiences from others, but nothing the articles suggested has worked. I only have two "pet" Buffs. They are the remnants of a neighbors exploits with backyard chicken farming. All were free range and after 5 years of roaming a country subdivision, all were attacked and killed with the exception of my two. I adopted them and have learned as much from them as they get, in care, from me. This eye worm thing is baffling though. Only one, Goldie, has been affected . It's white to translucent, emerges from one particular eye, and then withdraws into the eye again. Any suggestions? She has had this thing since I adopted her. I recently treated both for gape worms and figured the SafeGuard would help the eye worm too. Its back as well as the symptoms of gaping, coughs, shaking head and scratching at the beak. I didn't treat a second time so could that be the problem?
I don't know that I'll ever use Safe Guard again for deworming. It didn't make some of my chickens feel well. Don't know if this was related but I lost two 5 month old pullets after treatment ended, and some of my older hens started molting in late August. That was new. And, my chickens' yolks are STILL NOT that dark orange color they used to have. Haven't changed their diet??? Which leads me to believe they're are not fully dewormed. And before I Safe Guarded the whole flock, a month before, I treated my older hens with Ivermectin. One of my poor buffy's comb is soooo pale. I'm not seeing any worms in their poop aside from one of my hens pooping a bunch of worms before treatment. I just don't know what to do anymore, but definately no more treatments for now.
Ugh, I’m so sorry! 💔 yep I would support your thought that safeguard did not work to deworm your flock I think in some areas there is a resistant to it maybe you are in one of those areas. You’re right it does sound with all those symptoms that maybe there is still a worm problem or that maybe you did clear up the worm problem they just need some time to replenish the nutrients that they lost to the parasite issue. No matter what I know it’s tough to figure out and I really hope that your flock starts to feel better soon🙏🏻
Sometimes when animals have really bad worms, they will become worse for awhile and even die after being treated for worms. This is because the worms detach from the colon and cause the animals to bleed internally which decreases their blood and increases anemia meaning them have worse symptoms and possibly even die. That may be what happened to yours.
I live in Western MA, its dead of winter here. I have a couple hens with poopy butt. I am trying to figure out whats going on, worms, gleet, not sure. I am new to chickens. I have one bird in the house gave her bath and ACV... Following treatment for gleet in Chicken Health Handbook. Gail Demerow. I called my vet she said to worm them all with a broad spectrum dewormer from tractor supply. I called tractor supply and they said not to deworm. I am at a loss. Should I get a fecal float test before I try deworming?
Liseann I understand the feeling of being overwhelmed by so many options 🥰 You’ll always have yo make the choice you’re comfortable with since you’re the only one who really knows your circumstances. How old are your hens and how poopy in their but? Sometimes they just get a little messy and that’s no cause for alarm. In my experience, vent gleet usually presents with white residue around their vents and feathers also. Also, sometimes changes in feed can cause changes in bowel. It’s always suggested that you get a fecal test done before treating for worms. The reasons are that Specific dewormers treat specific types of works so you’ll want to use the right one, and over use of workers can lead to parasite resistance and none of us want that. However, will deworming once without a fecal lead to resistance? Probably not... and personally, I don’t have a local vet who will treat chickens or with experience with their fecal parasites. If they were mine, I would start by disinfecting all feeders and waterers and making sure they get fresh water daily. A dewormer like safeguard is good broad spectrum and is mild enough that it will not cause any notable discomfort if you just treat to cover your bases. If I couldn’t determine an exact diagnosis, I might start with the least harmful treatments and monitor for improvements, making notes along the way. ACV isn’t really a treatment for vent gleet that I know of, although it would likely be helpful along with another treatment. I’ve used 1cc Monistat cream in and around the vent and treatment in the past. I love the chicken health handbook! I also love tractor supply, and their people mean well but I wouldn’t necessarily trust their animal husbandry advice! I don’t always see messages on here, so if I don’t respond please find me on social media under Mojohomesteadfl and shoot me a message there too. I’ll be happy to help you navigate how to handle your birds 💕💕
I've read there is no egg withdrawl for using safeguard aquasol. This says 14 day egg withdrawl so I'm confused as to why it says there is one? Is it because of the dosage?
I had to get the vet out to my property because there was a worm in my duck egg. Vet tested it and it was a fluke. She said it is so rare. I order safeguard aquaSol. She said there is no egg withdraw with that. Also they get them from eating dragon flies and snails.
Omg! That is my biggest fear, worms in eggs: I started treating once a year preventatively just in case! That just have been really alarming! I’m glad you were able to work it out 🙏🏻🙏🏻.
Hi there, I'm glad I found your video!! I did read that people using the goat dewormer were mixing 1 oz of the dewormer with 1 cup of water then mix it in with 15-20 lbs of food... I only have 3 chickens, do you think this is excessive and do you only put it in their water??
I’ve found that The problem with administering any way other than directly is that there’s no way to really know how much they’re getting. And with feed, my chickens waste so much that it would be especially hard to tell 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️. When I am treating preventatively (which I’ll do once a year). I’ll do safeguard in water. When I’m treating a known infestation, I’ll use valbazen directly, and then retreat again in 10 days 🙏🏻
@@MojoHomesteadFL That is how our chickens are.. I bought the goat dewormer today because we suspect one of our chickens has worms. Shes eating and drinking but its obvious that she isn't gaining weight. I'd prefer to put it in their water just because I want to know that all three are getting it. I did read about Valbazen but here in my area in MN, our feed stores don't have it... I also order diatomaceous earth to put in their feed. I've never dealt with this before and I don't want my hen to die...
Sierra A. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I totally understand. Without seeing worms in her poop, or doing a fecal, there could be other reasons (that I’m not total educated in) for her not gaining weight. Are the others picking on her and not letting her eat? In any case, I think safeguard in water is the least aggressive form of treatment for worms, and a good first option. Sending you all the helpful energy I can hoping you’re able to diagnose and treat your girl effectively 🙏🏻💕
@@MojoHomesteadFL I don't believe the other two pick on her... we do let them free range so normally the other two go off and do their own thing and she slowly follows. We've watched them eat the past couple days and shes been eating good. Thank you so much for your intel!!
How did you get this dosing information? Most resources I have seen said to give .1 mL per kg individual doses, I could never find a source online that said per gallon of water
I’m not even sure of my original source at this point. I suppose I’ve collected the information from various chicken message boards and groups on different social media platforms, and other places on the interwebs. Then I came to trust these doses after trying them on my own chickens. But of course, you should always go with whatever your research tells you is the best choice to make! Don’t take my word for it..
Is the egg withdrawal time period 14 days from day 1 or from day 5? I've also read that the safe-guard (fenbendazole) is not water soluble. Does it stay suspended/homogenous long enough (not settle out) to be drunk by the chickens?
14 days from the last day of treatment. And I’ve read that too. I’ll only mix up enough for them to consume in a day and then make it fresh daily for 5 days. It’s always seems soluble to me, but there is also some white residue on the bottom of the waterer.
Danile Sambrano I haven’t... But I recently learned that they can be crushed up and mixed into soil as a natural pest deterrent in gardening... In my experience natural remedies work better as preventatives, but once I’m noticing worms in poop something more potent is necessary. I’ll have to look into tobacco leaves! Thank you 🙏🏻
You’re right around the corner from me! How old are they; what are their symptoms? You can message me on Facebook or Instagram for quicker responses and I’m happy to talk it all through with you and share anything I may know!
Anyone dealt with chicken gasping for air wheezing lethargic? I heard gapeworm can be the cause. Just started giving her safeguard and will treat my other girls. We will see. Please reply if you dealt with treating gapeworm! Thanks
So looked it up on a Vets website. Here is the doseage and calculation. You gave them way too much. Determine your dosage range. Total weight of your flock x 0.00454 ml of Safeguard10% per pound per day. This calculation gives you the minimum effective Fenbendazole dose (1mg/kg/day.) -Example: 54 pounds of flock x 0.00454 ml per pound = 0.25 ml of Safeguard10% per day for the entire flock. Since that is the minimum effective dose you can safely double it. Its a 5 day treatment in 1 liter of water. Take your ml per pound per day number and size it to your waterer. Plan on a 5 day course of treatment, adding each daily dosage to the amount of water your birds drink per day (or multiplying to the size of your waterer.) Mix well. -Since my birds drink ½ gallon per day, I dosed 2 and ½ gallons (5 days worth of water) -As I said in Step 5, it’s a very safe product so I doubled my 0.25 ml daily dose to 0.5 ml and therefore added 2.5ml to my 2 and ½ gallon waterer. -Make sure this is the ONLY source of water your chickens have for the duration of treatment

Don't listen to people at tractor supply most times it's just a job to them and have no knowledge of any products for the animals
I've read there is no egg withdrawl for using safeguard aquasol. This says 14 day egg withdrawl so I'm confused as to why it says there is one? Is it because of the dosage?
Can you give the safeguard to them on the bread individually and put it in there water?
I don’t think that’s necessary, I would do one or the other
I had to get the vet out to my property because there was a worm in my duck egg.
That wasn’t worst fear too. I have had them for 6 years and just now it happened. The vet said it is really rare so of course it happened to me
Was my worst fear. Not wasn’t
Where do you find the valbazen online to buy? I couldn’t find it anywhere

Do you know if using safeguard are you required to treat again after 10 days for the larve?
You are, yes.
I bought the pellets but I do not know how much to give them do you ?
No I don’t, I’m sorry
What is the egg withdrawal time mean. That you cannot eat the eggs or that they won't lay
@@donnaford2631it means the number of days you have to throw the eggs away; do not eat
Do you have to repeat?
Yes 10 days after the initial treatment
Do you know if this safe for younger chicks 4-6 weeks old?
I’m not sure! I’ve not yet treated chickens that young yet.
Do you give the Valbazen to each chicken individually rather than in the water?
You’ll want to treat each individual bird. You can either squirt right into their mouth or soak it into a piece of bread and have them eat it 🙏🏻
Just once? Or 5 days?
Thought safegaurd there is not egg withdrawal
Do u retreat in 10 days with Valbazen?
Yes!
Have you heard anything about feeding them Tabaco leaves?
Danile Sambrano I haven’t... But I recently learned that they can be crushed up and mixed into soil as a natural pest deterrent in gardening... In my experience natural remedies work better as preventatives, but once I’m noticing worms in poop something more potent is necessary. I’ll have to look into tobacco leaves! Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you so much. the calculations were killing me.
Is ivermectine safe to use if I cant get anything else.
Food grade diatomaceous earth.
I live in Madison Fl and having trouble with my flock. Thought worms but we keep loosing babies and juveniles....and no vet for chickens boo
You’re right around the corner from me! How old are they; what are their symptoms? You can message me on Facebook or Instagram for quicker responses and I’m happy to talk it all through with you and share anything I may know!
Food grade diatomaceous earth.
That syringe looks like it is Oz in stead of mL. It looks like a large diameter for milliliters. Very good video though, thank you!
Anyone dealt with chicken gasping for air wheezing lethargic? I heard gapeworm can be the cause. Just started giving her safeguard and will treat my other girls. We will see. Please reply if you dealt with treating gapeworm! Thanks
If they are stretching their neck & look like they can't breathe & look as if it's effecting their breathing it's gape worms
is your whatsaap group
how do you pay the bills
Good video but get to it. 😅
So looked it up on a Vets website. Here is the doseage and calculation. You gave them way too much.
Determine your dosage range. Total weight of your flock x 0.00454 ml of Safeguard10% per pound per day. This calculation gives you the minimum effective Fenbendazole dose (1mg/kg/day.)
-Example: 54 pounds of flock x 0.00454 ml per pound = 0.25 ml of Safeguard10% per day for the entire flock.
-Since my birds drink ½ gallon per day, I dosed 2 and ½ gallons (5 days worth of water)
-As I said in Step 5, it’s a very safe product so I doubled my 0.25 ml daily dose to 0.5 ml and therefore added 2.5ml to my 2 and ½ gallon waterer.
-Make sure this is the ONLY source of water your chickens have for the duration of treatment
