Whenever I think about being an astronaut, this is always what I think about. Jumping out of the ISS, looking down at the impossibly big Earth, looking over at the surprisingly small sun, then looking up. And seeing absolutely nothing.

I think you understand this feeling and I appreciate that.
Been in a "void" "abyss" once in a part of Australia near the middle of the country which is mostly desert, had driven all the way out there with some cousins on a set of trail bikes. We decided to camp out on a salt lake which we knew was large. I decided to drive out at twilight to find the middle of the lake and stopped when the sun went fully down and the stars came out. I got of the bike to realize I couldn't see anything but white salt lake ground as far as my eyes could make out that topped by a perfectly clear starry night. Probably the most complex mix of emotions I've ever felt not exactly in any form of void but it sure did feel like it looking around, surrounded by a 360 of perfect white ground and night sky. Awesome video!

I love these kinds of conversations, and when I encounter it, as hard as it is to shoehorn, I think of Camus' grand concept of absurdism. We don't really have to understand or fill the empty space, we just need to embrace it and carry on. The universe is, inevitably, an indifferent one, so let's carry on with what we have and enjoy every moment of it.
Absurdism is a concept nonetheless, I will forever war against comprehension and stubbornly fight reality. My body feels pain while my mind is an expansive splash of denial and hatred, I don’t comprehend space, I attempt to comprehend permanence and infinity. It will be my downfall, but I’ll die with the knowledge of true nothingness.
I have struggled with nihilism, and trying to enjoy the moment and the little things is the best you can do in my opinion. But I think I can't just ignore that feeling of meaninglessness at times, as much as I wanted to. It takes courage to look at the fact we are mere mortals and just deal with it. I can't do it all the time, and if you do I congratulate you. I Wish we all had that capacity, but we don't and that's why religions are so popular.
I've thought about the nothingness of space a lot. It's anxiety inducing for sure, yes, but also fascinating. What would it feel like to be hundreds and thousands of light years away from a noticible bulk of mass? At that point, the only thing you would see close to real time would be your own body, and knowing that wherever you look, you can only see the past, that is, if you can even notice anything around you as the closest object to you would be like a tiny speck of dust. Isn't it terrifying that you can not interact with any matter? What if some unknown entity were to slowly come towards you, a creature of sorts, an asteroid, whatever it may be, there will just be nothing you can do about it. You will be helpless. Be it in films, videogames, books, we always underestimate how empty and vast space actually is. And to add to that, It's scary how I know that I will never know anything about space in my entire lifetime, even if I were to live for a thousand years, I doubt humanity will even begin to scratch the surface of it all, and there's just nothing I can do about it other than to keep living and flot in this abyss until my life comes to an end. It's quite sad when you think about it. There are near limitless possibilities in a nearly limitness ocean of.. things? An ocean so big that you can't even begin to comprehend the possibilities of.. things? Oops, that's enough existential Dread for a youtube comment, I really enjoyed this video, it's certainly quite different from what you usually do but it still has the same charm as your other videos.
We are too fragile to expand enough in the universe to solve our most basic troubles or necessities like food, habitable space, manpower, energy or technology. We may have never be capable to achieve this, and it isn't even the beginning of the preparation for an expedition of such magnitude. Our bodies and minds are simply not enough to bear the size of the challenge, even to bear certain challenges, some created by ourselves nonetheless. The approximate truth (if it's even one worth the trouble to know) is that we are not an interplanetary or even universal wanderer Race, although we have exceptional abilities and potential, we are too stubborn to even formulate this concept to the entire human race. We are a certainly fortunate Ape, but first we should solve once for all our inner problems… well in the end, no one has changed the world from its bed no? We cannot be pessimistic (if we want to progress) but we must acknowledge our limits, before we want to progress even more in this beautifully bizarre universe we live in.
@@mickycaneloni8431 I would also add that most people are Physically and Mentally not ready for space. It takes Astronauts years of being in peak physical and mental condition to even attempt to be in space and that's not mentioning things like how it affect our fucking bones and muscles and a myriad of other things! We as a species are not ready.
Space is a vast empty abyss, indeed, but, well, that isn't all it is. If you escape the bright artificial lights we pour into the sky, on a cold clear night, you can see what else space is. You can gaze up at the abyss and see the stars, the band of the milky way across the sky, see the universe with its uncountable stars, and realize that, though it is a cold, uncaring abyss, there are points of warmth, just waiting for us to reach up and touch.
Imagine being an astronaut that gets disconnected from a spaceship. Flung out into the abyss, helpless to do anything about it. You spend your last moments staring at nothing, being nowhere in the universe, realising how small you've been this whole time. Met face to face by the one true cosmic horror. Nothing
I think the fact that the music cuts out abruptly at the end of the video. And all that's left is the deafening sound of silence. That is what made the most impact on me. The slowly dawning realization that even this hopeful video matters not in the grand scheme of the abyss that surrounds us. Well done @DJ Peach Cobbler. You made me question my existence there for a second. And honestly, it was thrilling. I hope I can do something as impactful as you do someday.

I was thinking about space the other day. You know, space space, the thing inbetween the stuff. And while a lot of space is scary, so is being too close together to some things. Finding or having the right balance of space and closeness, really puts into perspective the beauty of everything, because without a bit of both, it's pretty freaking static. I may need to edit this later..
It is said that when Gagarin looked out of the small pothole in his coffin of a space craft. When he peered into that vast unforgiving empty abyss, he saw no god up there.
A few of my close friends didn't really grasp the scale and lonely sadness of space, so I ended up showing them Melodysheep's timelapse of the future. They were amused but didnt really get what I was trying to say... this vid sums up everything I was trying to convey. Thanks Cobbler.

I just finished my first playthrough of Outer Wilds yesterday and for the past 24 hours I’ve been thinking about these similar things none stop... I won’t say anything more because any spoilers will hurt the experience but please do yourself a favor and play it. This is not just meant for cobbler but anyone who reads this comment. It is a tremendous experience and completely worth your time and money.

Honestly one of my favorite videos ever, a way to describe so many feelings I could never put into words. The idea of space in general always fascinated me since I was a child and I really threw myself into it every chance I got. Every summer I went to (and later worked at) a space camp that was near me but was created by someone who truly had a passion for what manned spaceflight really was. Since the beginning of the shuttle program he decided to not use his dual PHD's and instead use his time to educate, NASA offered him the opportunity to become the first teacher in space on Space Shuttle Challenger yet denied it. As a personal project he helped me to create a giant copy of the photo "Backpacking" (1984) has always been my favorite which is similar to if not the same as the one at 4:50. It always provoked all these feelings I still cant put into words. I could go on about it all but Ill stop here for now. Amazing video
You are a major inspiration for my channel Cobbler. Mainly how you format your videos. For example with your Stalker 2 concerned video with how you went from Norse Mythology to how every modern triple A game is literally doing the same boring thing, and then connected that to the theme or central point of the video. It’s also nice to see a UA-camr that shares some similar opinions to me, whenever I try to say I was wrong about Last of us part 2 being bad people call me delusional it’s nice to know some people out there actually enjoy the game I had to play it again to understand the message of the game, I hated it because it wasn’t what I expected and Joel’s death really made it difficult to make me empathize with Abby. You brought up that, that was the point I was supposed to be met with this challenging question and or moral dilemma, which is seeing the humanity in what I viewed to be a complete monster. You also said it in a way that wasn’t condescending or passive aggressive, or pardon my French but not sounding like a complete prick calling everyone stupid like Cosmonaut did. You’re also funny as hell with your dry tone of voice making every joke in my opinion land effectively. Great video about Space and dark matter by the way. I’ll be voting for you in 2024 and will be offering my annoying prick of a little brother up to sacrifice to the gods, I’m not a virgin so I only have that option. In all seriousness take care mate, keep making content!!!

This channel has thus far made me laugh, contemplate questions I’d never before considered, literally caused me to pause the video because I was laughing too hard, and then made me excited and scared and thrilled by stuff that wasn’t even on my mind but probably was in the back somewhere. Pretty sure this is my favorite channel.
Have you ever thought about death. Imagine there is no afterlife of any sort Think about the vast dark emptiness that is death. Can you comprehend what true nothingness means? *the happy lights on my screen start blinking* Anyway, time for another round of minecraft.
I'd like to think, surely it's false hope, but id Like to imagine that one day we either become stars ot become nature, a flowing river, the wind, something that would make our human lives feel all the more stressed, a sitiation where we all just don't worry about limbo, but worry about nothing at all *opens Katana Zero* Cheers mate🍹
I don't know about you guys, but I don't really get anxious whenever I hear about stuff like this. This just interests me a lot about the vastness of space. And it also makes me realize how unique the planet earth and its denizens really are in the vast cosmos
So I'm going to tell the story of the one time I played Elite Dangerous. I was playing as a bounty hunter, killing pirates because I like dogfighting and it seemed like the fastest way to trial by fire learn how controlling my little spaceship was. I blew up a few pirates and one of them dropped some cargo. It wasn't very expensive but I picked it up to sell, I couldn't even tell you what it was. Problem was, adding cargo weight to your ship impacts your fuel efficiency, particularly for travelling at faster than light speeds. I was new. I did not know this yet. I found a space station in another star system that was paying a good rate for the admittedly unimpressive cargo I was transporting. I made the jump to FTL speeds. I ran out of fuel. Two-thirds of the way to my destination. I fell out of the comforting FTL travel into infinite blackness, unable to claim I was even in a solar system. Adrift with only standard engines able to fire, and a clock that said it would take several years to reach my destination this way. I self destructed the ship to escape the infinite black void, and I uninstalled the game.
We live in a perfect cradle, suspended in a perceived expanse of cold nothing, but in truth we are more than fine, more than comforted, we are blessed, like a child in a manger, even in our folly, even in our mortality, we are cared for by the perfection and nurture of nature and the infinite. God bless, Forevermore.
There’s a great scene in Final Fantasy 8 where one of the characters is just a spec floating through space while she slowly runs out of oxygen contemplating everything, and that was on the PS1.
i really like the idea of how small we are and how much we haven't discovered. Other life is out there, no way the only life is preserved on this shit rock.
An overrated ideology of infinite. Terror itself is useless and empty, devoid of original meaning, in fact terror is simply human emotion, thus it cannot be used in comprehension to ideology, for emptiness is emotionless, because it is everything of emotion.
Being alone is not terrifying, it means we're chosen, it means that we have the right to make what we want of our future, All the planets and terraformable places are all belonging to us, we need only to reach out and take it.
@@Disissid19 Chosen for what and by whom? There is nothing else to do except working to be an intergalactic civilazation, until our resources and energy run out and we can't survive any longer. We either kill ourselves in the end, or are wiped out by another civilazation with the same goal, to become intergalactic. There is nothing else in the future of humanity. All we do is pointless in the end.
@@niyiu3547 That is the most nihilistic way of looking at it. I don't think it's relevant whether we're even alone or not to beign with. Because we don't have the resources here on earth to colonize the solar system. But saying that what we do is pointless simply because the entire universe is blank is a very backwards way of thinking. The point of living, is up to you, the individual, your actions mean something to those affected by it and those who will remember your legacy in the future. In the end, you did something that shaped the future. You may not be remembered as you are, but there is point to living and what we find. We are the only species who are so complex to the point where we find multiple justifications to live. Other animals just eat, shit, throw out a baby here and there and die
After going almost a year and a half without subscribing to a new channel, and watching your "analysis" vids for about two weeks at this point. This is what did it, this kind of stuff is what made me fall in love with UA-cam as a kid. Thank you for reminding me.
One thing I believe you failed on is the ending. As you zoom away from earth there, you hear an almost soothing "whooooooooosssh" sound. Almost as if you were in the womb. The truth is, it would be dead quiet. So quiet you couldn't bear it. Quiet that is the worst. Other than that, yea, 10/10, gonna kill myself in the garage.
Honestly, I'm very surprised after watching this video. As soon as I saw you mentioned which was your second favorite image ever I already knew which was the number one; that is because I too love that image a lot, it being my personal favorite as well. Sitting down and thinking that every single problem we've had or will ever have is in this gigantic rock that at the end of the day, is just a piece of mass floating in between some sunbeams and being of minuscule proportion compared to the size of something we can't even measure, It's crazy. Thank you for making me think about this again, it's always important to be grounded and know that we don't know enough.

You are literally the first cobbler I've seen in my 15 years of using the internet to bring this sort of topic up, and I'll be honest I'm kinda glad it is just us in the endless void, at least currently, mostly due to the thought "what if we did have an alien civilization that was thriving and it was right next door?" well the answer is obvious we would do what we did with the neanderthals in that we would obliterate them for shits and giggles and take their stuff.......thats why its so eerily beautiful that this is the reality we face, we deserve to be alone in the endless void because we cant play nice with anyone or anything that is not us....
I loved Elite: Dangerous, because of one fact. When I jump to a new star, I have to make sure I have fuel. I have to jump to that star and plan my route around being able to get back home, because I am alone. A vast empty void, apathetic to my needs. Barron of anything but minerals and vacuum. You make a jump. It puts you in front of a star and the only way forward is past the star. Towards that void. Towards a path without anyone around.

@@juanordonezgalban2278 why do you care if your life doesn't matter
@@claudiathomas2529 I have to choose to care because if I don't then it wont matter, and that is frightening
Feels like a spiritual successor to exurb1a's "We're The Last Humans Left"
Space is a vast empty abyss, indeed, but, well, that isn't all it is.
If you escape the bright artificial lights we pour into the sky, on a cold clear night, you can see what else space is.
You can gaze up at the abyss and see the stars, the band of the milky way across the sky, see the universe with its uncountable stars, and realize that, though it is a cold, uncaring abyss, there are points of warmth, just waiting for us to reach up and touch.
I was literally just having a panic attack about my existential dread and then this shows up in my feed. Lol.

YES. Lol I was thinking the same thing! I wonder if this is a coincidence or not. :D
I would give this a like but you are at 42 likes and I don't want to be the one to break that
I think the fact that the music cuts out abruptly at the end of the video.
That "42" at the end of those zeros looking pretty sus.

Found your channel 4 days ago. I’ve watched every video and told at least 20+ people to check it out so far. Great content dude
The audio atmosphere fitted the subject; from beautiful, to surreal, to unsettling.
Well done.
A few of my close friends didn't really grasp the scale and lonely sadness of space, so I ended up showing them Melodysheep's timelapse of the future. They were amused but didnt really get what I was trying to say... this vid sums up everything I was trying to convey. Thanks Cobbler.
I like how you used dark/black screens in-between images, just to force me to look at a reflection of myself. I am now terrified.
Hope you're doing ok, I remember when you just had a couple hundred views and now have millions. Keep on doing right by yourself dude, you're doing great!
“nothing” is peaceful, I like it
I just finished my first playthrough of Outer Wilds yesterday and for the past 24 hours I’ve been thinking about these similar things none stop... The inevitability of death and nothingness always scares me more than anything and I think I’ll probably spend my whole life battling with this fear. But that game and of course, your video, absolutely helped a lot. Thanks.
Also I really like the “unusual” content on this channel, eg the history wifu lessons and now this, really enjoyed it. Continue creating what you love and never stop:)
lol what are you talking about? im in my spaceship meeting aliens every week
next time i will take one back with me to proof my psychologist wrong
If you want to play a game that truly gets what space is, then please play outer wilds. Not the game by obsidian, the outer worlds. Outer wilds. It’s a space exploration game that is all about learning and discovery in a hand crafted solar system. I won’t say anything more because any spoilers will hurt the experience but please do yourself a favor and play it. This is not just meant for cobbler but anyone who reads this comment. It is a tremendous experience and completely worth your time and money.
It's impressive how every one of your videos are extremely interesting in their own way, I'm brazilian and even though, this is definitely one of my favorites channels, the contents are just amazing,my favorites being the tragedy of Dark souls 3 bosses and Bioshock: A legacy of beautiful failures (I like the others too but these two were really especial to me)
Thank you very much and keep doing the amazing job :)
this video is a good place to remind everyone: the core of the self is emptiness. not only do you live in an abyss, you are also an abyss. holes inside of holes, brothers =)
On my 4k OLED screen I got to experience an almost completely accurate representation of space at the 2:55 mark. I know it is hard to imagine something like a perfectly black screen on your peasant IPS/VA or God forbid TN panel, but it was deep and dark.
This message brought to you by LG, life is good.
Hey me too
Honestly one of my favorite videos ever, a way to describe so many feelings I could never put into words.
Amazing video
this reminds me of the SCP tale “The Stars Do Not Wait For You”
You are a major inspiration for my channel Cobbler.

Came for a recommended video about my favourite game franchise (STALKER), stayed for the existential crisis video. What a beautiful journey this has been.
Damn you, you pastry! I wasn't trying to have an existential crisis today!
Imagine there is no afterlife of any sort
Think about the vast dark emptiness that is death. Can you comprehend what true nothingness means?
*the happy lights on my screen start blinking*
Anyway, time for another round of minecraft.
I'd like to think, surely it's false hope, but id Like to imagine that one day we either become stars ot become nature, a flowing river, the wind, something that would make our human lives feel all the more stressed, a sitiation where we all just don't worry about limbo, but worry about nothing at all

Just like before you were born. This life is a blink of an eye compared to how long you haven't lived
I don't know about you guys, but I don't really get anxious whenever I hear about stuff like this. This just interests me a lot about the vastness of space. And it also makes me realize how unique the planet earth and its denizens really are in the vast cosmos

Hey, hey guys. You think he has some thoughts on catgirl enthusiast Elone Wario?
I self destructed the ship to escape the infinite black void, and I uninstalled the game.
keep ur head up, even though it's true that we are ultimately nothing, it's human nature to make something out of nothing
Everyone sad and “lonely” until a random black hole joins us :D 😂😫
There’s a great scene in Final Fantasy 8 where one of the characters is just a spec floating through space while she slowly runs out of oxygen contemplating everything, and that was on the PS1.
i really like the idea of how small we are and how much we haven't discovered. Other life is out there, no way the only life is preserved on this shit rock.
Just found this channel. It's all over the place...
And I'm loving it.
"There are two possible outcomes: We are alone in the universe, or we are not. Both are equally terrifying."
(This is what I remember of the quote)
Did I start a philosophical war?

Damn, this existential dread really makes me want to have a bear hug right now. Cobbler, would be so inclined?
I loved Elite: Dangerous, because of one fact. When I jump to a new star, I have to make sure I have fuel. I have to jump to that star and plan my route around being able to get back home, because I am alone. A vast empty void, apathetic to my needs. Barron of anything but minerals and vacuum. You make a jump. It puts you in front of a star and the only way forward is past the star. Towards that void. Towards a path without anyone around.
this is perhaps the most reddit video you've made. my condolences for your brainrot
I like how you put a white-noise sound on the emptiness, because it shows that we can't even really grasp that. No sound. No sensation. No thing.
