My father is 79 a retired DDI of madurai division in southern railway. He was the inauguration driver for vaigai pallavan and other mg trains..thanks for this video showing the golden rock shed ydm my father was driving. Blessed to be son of a railway man who spent sleepless nights for public service..regards
Lots of memories in this line. Every summer we traveled from Mumbai to Madras. Then we took the metre gauge train from Egmore to Tirturaipondi our native place. Beautiful and cherishing journey. We enjoyed a lot. Today nothing is left. Life as changed in city. So people rarely travel to such places for vacation. Very sad.
I go to my childhood. Feeling I miss this MG train and also my father. I travel along with him lot of time. I miss both in my life. Thanks to this video.
Thanks for the simple and beautiful narration. I have experienced MG trains in Palakkad - Kollengode - Pollachi- Palani - Dindigul - Madurai- Rameswaram/ Coimbatore Podanur - Pollachi, Chennai - Villupuram - Mayiladuthurai - Kumbakonam - Tanjavore, Villupuram - Vridhachalam - Trichy - Madurai, Trichy -Karaikkudi - Manamadurai - Rameswaram and Kollam - Tenkasi - Virudanager - Madurai MG sections. Every thing were phased out one after another! I had the privilege to travel in SL class in Palakkad Jn - Dindigul - Madurai section just few days before the cessation of traffic between Dindigul and Madurai. Similarly I could travel between Palakkad and Pollachi, the last stretch in MG in the region just a week before the traffic was stopped for BG conversion.
train is not just a mass of iron, a spirit is living there in every in every train...........one who having lovely spirit....they love trains............SL is not among them........but India is.......I am a SLn and I salute them.
So beautiful to see the natural scenes, villages, village people, kids goin to school, such a beautiful journey you've captured. Always love Tamil culture and places. Beautiful video.
Great video! Very nicely compiled. MG trains had their own charm and beauty. The last time I travelled in MG was way back in 1993 probably..on Jodhpur- Jaisalmer route. Now that line is also converted to BG. Gone are the days of MG trains, steam engines and also those wonderful first class compartments once there used to be...
Indian Railways (June 2018) is to preserve 5 narrow gauge (2 feet 6 inches) rail lines in Gujarat, the Dabhoi-Miyagam line (33km), the Miyagam-Malsar line, (38 km). the Charonda-Moti Karal line (19 km), the Pratap Nagar-Jambusar line (51 km), and the Bilmora-Waghi line (63 km).
i had worked at pattukottai at the year of 2015 i had saw this metre gauge tracks. i had very excited .... i go there and stand on that track... i still like to travel in this metre gauge once time in my life... pattukottai- thiruvarur- veadharniyam-nagapattinam routes very nice
I am also travelled in this MG train in the years of 1998,2000 & 2002 during my summer holidays at school. My native is pkt. So I travelled in this train from pkt to Chennai at the time. Really I miss lot of my childhood, school life & enjoyable MG train journey. That is evergreen memories for me. Please take serious action to restart the BG train traffic from Chennai to rameshwaram in this route permenantly. This service will be very useful for concerned area peoples especially school & college students, office/company workers. Thanks to all to see this Clipping.
Nostalgic. I have faded memories of Thiruthuraipoondi Jn. We travelled from here to Egmore on Kumban express in 1987. Train was hauled by a steam engine from Pattukottai and a part of the train used to come from Nagore and both were linked at Thiruvarur JN. Steam engine was replaced at Thiruvarur. Wonderful and thanks for bringing back my sweet memories.
Fantastic video sir. Thanks for archiving this MG track. The 12 dislikes must be from aliens. Otherwise, how can you belittle the passionate efforts of a man who is in love with trains?
Speechless..... i will proudly say YDM4, YAM4 were work horses of MG section... Semaphores, token exchanges were part and parcel of MG in South as far i have seen.... Please keep up the great effort you have put to bring this. Thanks!
At Thiruvarur Jn both MG and BG tracks were there.. Since 2019 only BG.. BG one to Peralam Mailaduturai one more to Nagapattinam Karaikal Vellankkanni and another to Nidamangalam Tanjavur Trichy routes.. MG track for Thiruturaipoondi Muthupetai Adirampattinam Pattukotai Arantangi Karaikudi trains (this is now getting converted to BG ..)

Good presentation. But now the only MG section in SR is Nilagiri MounTain Railway.
Liked the video. Kindly remove the background music and play only natural train sounds, which is enough music for our ears...
Nice video.
