At that point in June 1964 Ascot still only staged Flat racing. The first NH racing was in April 1965.

I remember watching all the 1964 Royal Ascot meeting on BBC. They covered 3 or 4 races each day. I was 15 at the time and played truant from school.

Great to see Doug Smith win the Royal Hunt Cup , timing his run to perfection on Zaleucus , five times champion jockey , he was a master around Chester especially on Lord Derby s horses .
