Ok. The thing with the buck controllers and their power good signal is that they almost always is an open drain output. It means the actual power good signal is an 'always on' signal drawn directly off the main supply through a high value resistor. The controller chip connects this signal to ground through am internal MOSFET that is in off state (hence the name 'open drain'). Whenever it senses the output voltage to be outside an acceptable range, the internal MOSFET is turned on, shorting the power good signal to ground and driving it low. It is done this way probably to safeguard the circuit by driving the power good low in case if the controller is damaged with an internal short circuit.
Thanks for the video with the explanations as you went. I have purchased 6 video cards that are broke and I am trying to learn how to fix them. These are cheap cards, and most of the channels are for expensive cards and they are laid out differently and that makes it tough to try to follow along. Very interensting, great video ... I would appreciate an advice - my friend has an issue with his GTX 980 Strix as it boots to desktop but it crashes (to a pure blue or black screen) a minute or two after entering a game (for example Lost Ark). We ordered a new PSU as we though it would solve the issue, because for a while he was able to use GPUTweak to lower GPU Power Target to 65%, underclock GPU and memory to lowest possible and he would be able to play games for hours. The new PSU (Corsair RM650 CP) did not solve the issue so we changed the thermal pad on the GPU VRM and repasted (GPU) and it did not solve the issue, but now it got worse - even with 65% power target and underclock it would crash a minute after entering a more demanding game. There is no visible damage on the card an it works with windows desktop ... I would also note an oil leak was present on the VRM the first time we opened it and we have cleaned it, so we are now wondering if the card can be repaired by a professional electronic or should we give it up?
The VRM is failing and unable to keep up with the demands of the GPU. VRM's don't leak oil, what you seen was probably the effect of it getting too hot. It can be repaired, this channel has repeatedly proven that. However there may be more than just one VRM that needs replacing as suggested by the observed worsening performance. I imagine it could still be cheaper to repair than to buy a new replacement card.
Very informative video. I'm trying to diagnose my own EVGA 1080 Ti Gaming card that doesn't boot. Nothing looks obviously burned on the board. All the resistances are in line with your video, but the PCIe 12v is short to ground. External PCIe cables are not short. Do you have an idea where I should begin looking?
I have a short on 12v... it happen when i measured voltage in mem. Vram whether it get 1.35v or not..and my gpu suddenly... shut down.. After do several check..one of my 12v 8 pin is now shorted.... ..also may resistance for 5v 1.8v 1v is now not at normal value...before this good value.....is it mosfet?
First of all, great fuckin' job dude! Very good video, I subbed and will share this on my Twitter page. I have the ftw3 version of the 1080Ti that is giving me a similar issue. I vape in my room, and the ventilation isn't the best and my PC started not wanting to post... You can see where this is going. Thankfully it was JUST the GPU that had vapour condensation on it, but it was quite a lot. long story short, I stripped the card, gave it a scrub with some isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush. The strange thing is, the PC boots, and games fine, I've even got it overclocked to 2ghz and it's fine, cool and fast. However, the card will not output a signal when the card is past ~42c, the PC will boot up and I can login to Windows, but I have no signal to the monitor. Once it cools down, I get a 'VGA card not supported by UEFI driver, CSM has been enabled for compatibility'. I then go into BIOS, disable CSM and the PC boots. I've already been through a week of all of the software, bios, vbios troubleshooting you could possibly do with this thing and I'm 99% confident it's a problem with either the 1.8v 3.3v or the 5v which was the issue with this card. I don't have a multimeter and wouldn't quite how to use it if I did. Do you think heatgunning the card might help? I don't know what to do, this has been thoroughly annoying.

Hi, thanks for the video very informative. I am trying to fix my own 1080 ti sc2. I have no shorts, all resistance measuring look good, I have 12v and 5v. I am missing 1v, memory vrm and gpu vrm voltages. What kind of damage can improperly measuring the 3.3v cause? my 1.8v was measuring properly and after measuring the 3.3v (which was 3.3) the 1.8v is gone and the core no longer gets warm.
@@TechCemetery I measured my 1.8v buck converter and got 12v VIN, 5.33v VCC, and 3.5v on EN. The inductor that is supposed to be 1.8v is actually sitting at 0.138v. Do you think the inductor could be the cause for the problems? Mainly just trying to figure out if the core is dead and if its worth taking to a repair shop becasue I do not have the tools to repair it myself. The card stopped working with a pop sound and a burning smell but with no visible marks on the board. Thanks!

I have an Aorus GTX 1080 ti, it looks like the board is cracked slightly by the first indented slot on the pcie connector. I think the gpu ,chip is fine though. You have this card if you wish, I can post it to you free of charge.
I have 5v and 1.8v but missing 1.0v because of that nothing at vram and GPU vrm. Could you help me with next steps in locating the missing 1.0v. thanks
The ordering in the video is slightly incorrect. You don't have the 1V rail because you don't have the GPU VRM running. You need to focus on the UP9511p phase controller on the back of the board. You'll want to check if it receives VCC (5V) which is passed through either a 2.2 ohm or 1k ohm resistor, and you'll want to check if you have EN (2V or so) which is passed through a six pin dual transistor I believe near UP9511p.
@@TechCemetery you're amazing, thank you for the advice and quick response, I'll take a look into this. Do you have a discord or anything for further support? If I get this sorted I'll definitely be sending you a donation!.
Have you come across and repaired an EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 ti FTW that is blinking Red/Green on the GPM LEDs and is also not detected by the system? Great videos btw, thank you!
Fantastic video and very informative, I have a reference mode and I have a believe I have a short on the 1v but the card had memory and vcore voltage as normal, any help would be great thank you
@@matthewburke5363 Do you have 1V on the inductor when you turn the card on?. If yes, that's easily a dead GPU. If not, consider the buck converters and nearby capacitors.
@@TechCemetery The inductor and capacitors to left are shorted to ground and when the card has power there is no voltage but I have the correct stand by voltage for memory and vcore, hopefully with a bit more testing I can find the problem and hopefully don’t have a dead chip lol but thank you and hope the channel is very successful 👍
For some of these discontinued/harder to get parts, I'd recommend looking for them on sites like Aliexpress, Alibaba, Taobao. Just remember you can't always trust the sellers there.
great video man! if your looking for more cards to make videos with i have an EVGA 1080Ti that randomly drops out if you wanna do a video with it let me know
Great job i learned a lot from this, my card stop working 1 week ago. I'm crying over that card because now they are so expensive. Where can i BUY THE bucks CONVERTs??
You have said that the fans are not even twitching. May I ask why? What is the significance of fans twitching? I have EVGA Geforce FTX 1080Ti that was working fine. Then I removed it from the motherboard and it sat unused for a couple of weeks. I installed it into a different motherboard and it does not work. Tried in 3 different motherboards and it will not get recognized. Upon power on, the fans twitch. That is all they will do. The lights do come on. I tested the power connectors for shorts and PCI short testing gets a beep on pins 4 and 7 which I believe is what is supposed to be. Going shopping later today for proper screwdriver set so that I can disassemble it further.
Generally speaking, the 1.8V power rail needs to power on for the fans to at least to try start running. No twitch suggests a failure at 1.8V or before. Take a resistance measurement of the 1.8V, 1V, and memory phase and let me know what they are.
@@TechCemeteryHopefully I am measuring the correct components. Even though this card is the same make/model the board is a little different. 1.8V shows 129 ohms 1V shows 14 ohms memory phase is 59 ohms
@@mark98115 If you really have both 14 ohms and 129 ohms on the 1V and 1.8V rail respectively, then there is a very strong possibility you have a dead GPU.
Also, I just put the naked card into a motherboard and fired it up with windows10. Card not showing in the device manager but I could feel the GPU chip getting warm.
@@TechCemetery sorry, I did not see that you had already replied when I wrote that the GPU was getting warm. After I took the ohm readings I went and put the card into a motherboard to check it out a little more. That's when I noticed that the GPU was getting warm. (kept touching it because I was paranoid about not having a cooler on it).

@@TechCemetery hi mate thanks to come back to me. No, I did not try MATs yet, but I will, I saw the video, very good. About capacitors behind the memory, I did not check it yet, but I will do it and report my finding as soon as I complete the above tests. Thank you a lot again.
Hi mate, I did what you asked and the MAT software pass the test without any issues, and no capacitors are missing near to the memory. However, when running the card without drivers i scan the card with a thermal camera and I find out that both of the memory inductors were the hottest spot on the card after the GPU. These inductors were around 55 to 60 C degrees, and this is not normal for a card without drivers and no under any stress. What do you think? Should I suspect bad memory MOSFETs? A memory chips which taking too much power and the memory power bank cannot not hold it up? Please let me know what you think it is and how I can confirm it! Thanks

helllo what is the name of the parts he changed?
Have you come across and repaired an EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 ti FTW that is blinking Red/Green on the GPM LEDs and is also not detected by the system? Great videos btw, thank you!
I have not actually, I've never even seen a 1080 TI FTW in person.
Hello can you help me? I have same problem with my gigabyte 1080 ti extreme
I can't give any advice without a diagnostic - resistances and voltages for all power rails.
Fantastic video and very informative, I have a reference mode and I have a believe I have a short on the 1v but the card had memory and vcore voltage as normal, any help would be great thank you
Short on 1V often indicates a dead GPU.
@@TechCemetery thank you very much for the information, is there anything I could try or look out for ? Sorry to ask but thank you.
How do I find a amcg 591 buck converter I can't even locate a data sheet let alone a chip to buy much appreciated brother
www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/277/NB671LB-1079585.pdf
That was quick thanks I'm trying to find a nb671lbgq but can't find the exact one they are showing nb671lb or lbq or just L or gq it's weird 😂
For some of these discontinued/harder to get parts, I'd recommend looking for them on sites like Aliexpress, Alibaba, Taobao. Just remember you can't always trust the sellers there.
great video man! if your looking for more cards to make videos with i have an EVGA 1080Ti that randomly drops out if you wanna do a video with it let me know
I have a gtax 1090ti with the exact same problem....can You fix it? and how much? ill pay for sure!
I have 7 pcs gigabyte 1080 ti not detectable. Can you fix them?
Yes, send me an email. It's listed in the description.
good job
I have a graphics card can you help me to fix
Great job i learned a lot from this, my card stop working 1 week ago. I'm crying over that card because now they are so expensive. Where can i BUY THE bucks CONVERTs??
@Tech Cemetery where can I buy the buck converters???
Aliexpress, eBay
@Tech Cemetery do you agave a link for it, I can't find it by it self
Thanks
1.8V shows 129 ohms
1V shows 14 ohms
memory phase is 59 ohms
Amazing :D
Hi Mate, great job, I am learning a lot from your videos, please keep posting.
I got an issue that I never understand how to fix it. I few cards similar to this one in the video, (standard gtx 1080ti Nvidea founders design), and the cards works normally, but when I try to install the drivers the screen goes black and the drivers never install properly. Identify as 1080 ti but not allow to run 3D applications. I already check / update VBIOS but still no luck. Do you (or someone) know what it could be and how I can check it?
Please help ???????
Have you tried running MATs? it's a memory testing program - I have a guide video on it. Is the card missing any capacitors behind the memory?.
@@TechCemetery hi mate thanks to come back to me.
No, I did not try MATs yet, but I will, I saw the video, very good. About capacitors behind the memory, I did not check it yet, but I will do it and report my finding as soon as I complete the above tests. Thank you a lot again.
if you got an address where to donate, I will be pretty much happy to put my contribution to you into making these amazing videos and support.
Hi mate,
I did what you asked and the MAT software pass the test without any issues, and no capacitors are missing near to the memory.
Thanks

awesome
i love u
Excellent video mate, but for gods sake slow down and think before you speak then you don't have to say it three times.
my card has the same condition
consider buying cheap gpu like 650ti , 750ti . more subscriber wiill come
it's funny how you say in this video youre spending your own money on broken gpus and now i cant even submit a gpu repair request on your site because you're being inundated with broken gpus that people pay you to fix lol
17 minutes of "ehm... yeah... I mean no... errr.. sorry I mean yes... well, I think, maybe."
huh,,, i wonder if u could fic my card :D
