Ooooo! I play the mandolin, but the notes and fingering are same. I love the glissando sliding technique you showed us! Works great! I jumped ahead and tried the 1st fing to 2 fing slide. Great, a new technique! Wow! Good stuff! Thanks for posting. This one lesson has already helped me. There isn't a lot out here for these techniques on mandolin.
Like always on point. :) Playing on higher position takes a bit more strength I just learned, that's why I started to train it. After a couple days it improves my 3rd finger notes C, G, D, A plus C#, G#, D#, Bb on 4th finger. It sounds deeper, more colorful and louder. But in tunes I prefer open notes and string crossings.

Yes! Lora is an excellent teacher! I am a retired, older lady that once played violin everyday with very good instructors from Indiana University, Dorothy Delay. Lora teaches like her. She is focused, and patient. And slows down each note. I like the smooth shifting with thumb still. Thanks again Lora!

Mohammad Sami Your videos for virtual sheet music are top of UA-cam instruction your early Red Desert videos I found irrating because it took too long to get to the point sort of like Proffesor V videos he would offer every alternative to his targeted demonstration taking to long to get to his intended demo. I Also found your video on Czardas right to the point , intresting at the beginning all the way to the end

have you done a first to fourth position video . I noticed in your video comparing violins the first check was a one octave scale on each string . This seems to involve a first to fourth position change with your last note in first position is the third finger on the G string it would be a C then forth position with first finger D then finish the scale in fourth. What exercise for fourth ?
Good question! Please, post it to Lora on this video's dedicated page on VSM, so you'll get a reply from her: www.virtualsheetmusic.com/experts/lora/simple-shifting/
HI Lora!! I've been really struggling when it comes to shifting on the A string from 1st position on 2nd finger (C natural), to 3rd position landing on 1st finger (D). My teacher says I have to slide the 2nd finger down the fingerboard to an E, lift it then drop the 1st finger right away to obtain the G, I've been really struggling with this since I tend to sort of slide down the 1st finger to the 3rd position and the E is inaudible and my teacher says it's wrong but pretty much I get the same outcome (don't I?)..... I'd really appreciate any advice on how to address this mechanical issue which has been torturing me for months! Regards from Mexico ;)

I don’t have a shoulder rest
Well, if you have no problems to play without it, go without it! But just consider trying one because in the long term could give you issues. 😉
