- Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
- After spending Christmas at home with his family, Skipper Alex Thomson returned to Cape Town, replaced the starboard rudder on his HUGO BOSS yacht, and - together with three crew members - set sail for his home base of Gosport, England. He may be out of the Vendée Globe, but that hasn't stopped the skipper from following the race closely. Here, he shares his thoughts on the final stages of the race, as well as the upcoming Prada Cup which sees Britain's Ben Ainslie, and INEOS TEAM UK, in action once again.
I'm really glad to here from you again, I was worried. But you have the personality to bring this to the world. I got turned on to this from a friend at work. I'm from a Lake Michigan sailing family. I am really enjoying the V.G. Currently in Rainier, WA
Alex is amazing - he’s got me enthusiastic about the Vendee Globe again - even though it’s without him.
Craziest VG ever, America's Cup, Trophée Jules Verne, ... This sailing season is indeed amazing. Wish you a nice sail back to the UK !
Thank you Alex for giving great news and for your enthusiatic comment on this amazing Vendée !!
Sail safe until home !
Resiliance... Nice to see you back in the game. What a good spirit ! Wishing you all the best.
Nice to see you again Alex, and again on Hugo Boss. The Vendée Globe is fantastic yes, but it misses you. And we miss you too.
Thanks for the update Alex! So glad to see you in good spirits after such a difficult upset. Nice to see Hugo Boss sailing again too.
Such a nice surprise to see you popping up in my feed. Look forward to at least a few more updates along the way. Cheers
Thank you for such a great update! Enjoy your delivery back to the UK!
Amazing VG. Actually great to see you again on Hugo Boss looking happy and refreshed! Safe sailing - keep up the commentary on VG please!
Alex, great stuff, you make these events accessible for everybody with you commentary. With your respect to all those Vendee Globe competitors and America’s Cup comment. Must be hard for your team but as you mentioned 10 boats for the winning strike at the moment.
Thanks for the update. It would be interesting for you to catch up with some of the VG boats, especially maybe Jérémie Beyou and do a regatta in the Northern Atlantic! 😉
Alex awesome you never failed in my view ~~ carry-on bud
Alex, you are simply the greatest!
It's a pity that you can't be with us any more.
You would certainly have ensured the right distances behind you.
I wish you all the best and hope for good races with you in the future.
The VG was a real highlight in lock down. What a fantastic event. Thank you Alex for a stunning effort. We have been hooked to your commentary and grateful for it. Better luck next time. I think all 11 thumbs down from your wife!!
So nice to see you back onboard Alex! All the best!
All the best Alex! and thanks so much for keeping your VG tracker going in spite of your retirement; it’s a permanent resident on my ipad.
Love that!!
Watching VG daily on SeaWolves -- super "escape" we are locked down again in Toronto Canada and VG is a welcome addition to each day! Go Boris, go Jean! Good luck to all - it will be a thrilling finish!
Good to see you aboard and taking the good ship HB home. I have been watching Pip Hare, what a racer; re-ruddering on the go and around the horn. Le Cam, what a hero and sharp sailor he is too,. Fair winds to all the racers and all aboard for the home trip.
Thanks for the news, sail safe :)
Well how wonderful to see you on the water again old boy...
Good to see you looking more cheerful again. Busy watching the vendee and America's cup. 👍
Great to see you back in the boat. Very nice shooting angle and great message.
Missed ya Buddy! It's good to see you back, Alex. Good for you to take some family and "head" time at home. Glad you and your family is healthy. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Thanks Alex. Enjoy your sail home.
Not just an amazing guy and sailor but a really good sport. Safe and informative trip home Alex & crew
Never give up Alex. That shows more grit than winning first try. You're the nautical Colin McCrea. "If in doubt Flat Out". I notice your older boats aren't so fast when you're not skippering them. All the best in the future. Win or lose I'm behind you.
Thank Alex, great to hear from you again. fair winds
Glad to see you smile again Alex!
Enjoy the sail back Alex, and I hope you find some great racing to do before you win the next YG in 4 years time
Great to see and hear from you and Hugo Boss again👍🏾
So great the hear and see you again - enjoy your trip and we can’t wait to see you racing again.
Great to see you back on the HB 😀 We miss you very much in the Vendee Globe ! It is a very exciting race and I hope to see Boris on the podium in France 🤞He is doing very well. Hopefully next VG we can cross our fingers for you again and see you finishing in First place 😉. We look forward to this 👍🏼 Safe way home 🤗
Hey Alex! That is so great to hear you again! You look great and relaxed ! I am waiting for you in Guadeloupe for the next Route du Rhum, as a winner, of course !
Alex - kudos to you and your positivity. You are an inspiration mate
Great too see you again Alex, hope to see you in upcoming IMOCA events !
Alex - Great to see you onboard after such earlier disappointment. And good to see you in fine spirit. Wishing you a safe journey home and hope to hear from you again soon. Thanks for the update and encouragement to stay in touch with sailing competition. Here we are three days after you recorded this video and the Vendee is still close as heck and American Magic just capsized in Auckland. Plenty of exciting stuff. Very much looking forward to your return.
Safe journey back Alex and crew.
Great to see you doing better Alex! Safe travels home with HB! Now rooting for Boris in the VG and Pip of course!
Great to see you on the mighty Hugo Boss. I missed it.
Me too
Love your positivity. Crazy sailing sports going on.
Nice to see u back in a good spirit and supporting your comrades
So happy to see you back , Alex! Wish you good wind home!
By the way, I’m craving to hear your comments on this amazing VG. Hope you will have time for sharing your experience, in particular on routing strategy and boat design ,
Only one thing could make the Vendee more exciting right now. Tell us you're already preparing for the next one Alex!!!
Well done and thank you Alex! 🙌
Nice you’re back, have fun on your trip back. Keep on posting the great video’s.
“To keep you from being too bored at home.” Hahah this man is living right! I am new to all of this but wow it’s interesting and looks very exciting! Thank you for bringing us along on the journey, safe travels!
Attaboy Alex. Youre a great ambassador to sailing and Boss
Great to you again Alex. I really enjoy your videos.
Happy new year, looking great!
Yep loads of fantastic sailing around the world, glad you’re safe and having a relaxing trip home.
Good to hear you in a positive frame of mind. Safe journey home and hope you are already preparing for the next one!
Wow, feels like it’s been a year! Good to hear from y’all! Cheers!
Good on you BOSS ! Cheers.
Great to see you back on the boat with a good spirit and energy level. What I find frustrating though is the abscence information of what exactly happened with the boat. All we know is "some sort of problem with the rudder". Why is there not a deep analysis?
Good to see you again, but we very miss you at the VG. 🤙
It will amazing to hear and see you soon again with the beast.
Greetings from Germany
Great to see you back on the water! Looking good!
Just great to see 💪💪 Awesome Alex 👍👍 Take care have fun stay safe 👏👏👏🇦🇺🇦🇺 all the best to you and family Cheers 🍺🍺
Alex, keep your eyes open for Gitana 17 coming down the other way! Enjoy the trip back because we're all in storm lock down here. Greetings from Bristol
You are truly an inspiration, Alex have a nice sail enjoy yourself ! Cheers from Florida.
Have a safe return!
Alex, here is my tip for you to win the next two Vendée Globe. BECOME FLUENT IN FRENCH! The Goddess of the sea Yemanjá wants you to be fluent on the language where this amazing race was created and is organized. Besides, when we hear Sam and Boris speaking French so fluently, there is no reason why you shouldn't. Great to hear your voice again. And, as exciting as this final stretch will be, not seeing that little black and magenta triangle in the bunch on the tracking map is a disappointment to say the least. But 24 and 28 will be Thomson BOSS years. Allez Alex!
The Boss is Back good on you Alex great update
What a great race! Too bad you weren't able to finish this time. Come back stronger the next time!
Thanks mate, well done.
Great to see you back on board. Loving the race but can't say it will be as thrilling as your finish last time. All the best from Inverness.
Happy to see you in a good mood again!
Have a good trip home! And yes the Vende is super exciting to follow. It will become especially intersting when they get closer to the equator. Hope to see you in the next edition amoung the top boats again!
Good to see you back.👍⛵️
Happy sailing, would have liked to see the Boss in the company of the single-handed bunch.
Thanks Alex - next time !
Always nice to see you Alex. Safe passage to the UK. ⛵️⛵️⛵️✌️💜
I started following the vendee , actually following just you. When you bowed I carried on and found that Boris speaks English been great watching Boris , Andi commentating on his daily show , and listening into all the other other competitors , watching them open up the champagne , saki for cape horn! , its been a amazing to watch ! 👍🙂
Meaning you’re anti French :-)
@@cesarcordova8686 no not at all , I don't speak French unfortunately so its great that Boris Herrmann ! speaks English :)
Safe journey and let’s hope to see more of you and the big bad Boss.
Fabulous Alex. Good to see you with mermaids 🧜♀️😂👍👍🦜🦜🦜🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
Definitely gunning for Sir B .
Rock n Roll and safe passage back Cpt
🍸🍸
Thanks for the update. Happy New Year, Alex!
You did was great job as far as you could. Glad you and the "Beast” are doing well.
I look forward to seeing you further and expect you will be back in the Vendee next time.
Great to have you back. What’s the chances of you doing a regular narration on the Vendee status and America’s cup? Given your experience and perspective ( not to mention your sailing position) it would be a compelling and novel commentary !
Great to see you bck on the water- it is the best show - am an addict- good sailing- from Tanzania🥂
Cool Alex, bon vent à vous👍🇨🇭🙋♂️
HNY Alex. Good wind homeward.
Thanks for the update and you are right this is an amazing race!!
Its good to hear from you.. all the best from Seville
Great to hear from you Alex and looking happy... have you any pictures of the damage to the rudder please???
Massively interested 😎👍
if you want to win a race you have to push really hard and you need a very strong boat. in your case the boat just didn't hold up and i blame the engineers on that one. doesn't matter now because that's now in the past, hopefully lessons learned and i really hope to see you in the next race again with the same team but this time a super strong boat :)
Great to see you back on the Boss.
Oi.. Oi! Happy New Year Alex and I guess it goes without saying, how devastating it was for all of us at home to lose you in the Vendee! Daft Punk, predict you will win next time " Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" Ahhh.. What lyrics..Take care fella!
Can we see what the cabin looks like with more than one person ? Also I dont suppose you have a drone on board ?
We don't have a drone onboard this time...but considering it for our next trip!
Good to see Alex got his mojo back.
Glad to see you are back in good spirits!
Btw, the offer I emailed to Emma still stands, ;)
The Boss Is Back!
Were you not carrying a spare rudder like Pip?
Pip’s boat is older. Some of The newer boat’s rudders are just too large to carry a spare.
Besthaven’s team was on VGlive talking about exactly that very thing and that Yannick does not have a spare rudder with him.
The Ambassador. The Boss Is back. looking forward to the updates running up to the next Vendee. What date do you plan to arrive back in UK?
Nice one Alex good to see you in high spirits, maybe go more Paris Dakar than F1 in the next Vendee, we know you can win it!
Hi Alex, miss you in the VG. Even though I am supporting Boris now, you were my hero in the previous VGs. Will you use the same boat in 2024/5? Best wishes from Hamburg
Thank you! We'll share an update on the future as soon as we can!
safe travels captain
Do you know you have a shark keeping pace with the boat just off the port side? 😳😮
Gute Reise. Wir sehen uns in 2024 :-)
Heute Boss is back on Water on Sailing !
You're completely right, this race is very exciting and we have to feel with you that you can't join the pack.
Should be 7 boats😓. Great to see The Boss again 😎.
