I will never forget unboxing my DX07. Now that folks was a unboxing experience. Happy people have another chance to to pick up Bespin Luke. From what I see you will not be disappointed. Great review my friend!
Never known why people love the old DX, the headsculpt looks dreadful, even back then. New one should look incredible with Vader staring him down. Great review.
I have my DX25 standing alongside ESB Lando - they're a great Bespin display. I did have Luke lightsaber clashing with my Darth Vader, but have recently swapped in ROTJ Luke so Father and Son stand together, ready to face the Emperor. Just love SW figures from Hot Toys!
This new version looks very professional and well made. The head sculp is on point. When you compared it to the Dx7 figure, it became night and day. From the proportions to the quality of the outfit, the head sculp, the new one looks far superior. The pockets too, they look better made. I wish they would stop saturating that light-saber blades so much, as they aren’t movie accurate anymore. They have no pop and look too clear, therefore don’t stand out. The light up effect isn’t worth it for the level of saturation they use. They should do two styles then, a saturated look for the light up effect, and deeper colour for the display look. Overall, excellent review, and if I was to get a, Luke Skywalker 1/6 figure, this is the one to get.
I wish they made this a two pack Luke! This figure plus a dirtier battle damaged version. And include a yoda in a backpack to create the training scene!! That would be the ultimate Empire Luke!!! With severed hand swap out arm!!! Oh and more vibrant saber so it stands out without being lit up! Sad the previous lightsaber blades look better than the new ones. And Justin you are correct in saying the swoosh should be more pronounced at the tip of the blade because that’s the leading end. It would look much more awesome!
Hello Justin firstly really enjoy and appreciate your videos, they are always very detailed which is why I made the decision to purchase this Luke in Bespin and very pleased I am. The reason I’m reaching out to you is the light saber arm which you attach, I have tried rolling up his sleeve and have pulled as much as I dare but I wonder if you can advise if there is a technique to this or to show a short video on how this is done as I can’t see any UA-cam videos showing this and must admit I think you would do this best. Many Thanks Rob
Thank you! Sorry Rob those things are awful to install, I would try adding a touch of heat and reading the instructions thoroughly. There’s no special trick to it unfortunately
Im glad this got a reissue. I got my first DX Hot Toys Luke during my early college years. I fiddled with it constatnly. Unfortunately I lost the magnet that kept the blaster holster strap together.
At 23:07 ... Luke before his fight with Vader (left) and after fight, while hanging from Cloud City (right) but still with both hands. He looks more windswept and haggered on the right. As always, a very cool review.
I am googling pictures of Like and it feels like the DX07 is better sculpt, but the DX25 may have the better paint. The DX25 his face is much too chubby.
The jump suit tailoring looks great! Articulation is a little hindered, but very nice. For me, it's Mando Luke, though. Like you said, down to personal preference. I will always love the green lightsaber--Luke was now using his OWN saber, rather than his daddy's. Glad you liked this one, though!
I want just ONE Luke for my collection. This one is really nice... but I'm one of those wacky bois that likes ANH the most, so I think I'm holding out for a 2.0 of Farmboy Luke. Nonetheless, this one is pretty snazzy. Great video!
I got this figure too and it’s amazing! I do hope they reissue the return of the Jedi Luke, as that’s my favorite look for him and I missed the first version
The "activation switch" pieces on the Graflex 3-cell flashgun clamps were left silver on the original trilogy (and sequel trilogy) props. It was only gold on the lightsaber props made for Revenge of the Sith, which were completely custom-made instead of being built from Graflex flashguns. There aren't really any good pictures of the hero lightsaber prop/s from The Empire Strikes Back on their own (at least not in the state they were during filming), but you can see that it's silver in the close-ups from the Wampa cave scene and in some publicity photos of Luke in his Bespin outfit. There's an interesting situation with Luke's blaster, which is apparently called the Merr-Sonn Model 57 and not a DL-44, despite it being nearly identical to the DL-44 Han Solo uses in ESB, but I digress. The DX07's blaster has a sculpt and paint job based on the hero version of the blaster from the movie (seen prominently in the publicity stills of Luke in his Bespin outfit) and is decently accurate to it. However, not only is the left side of the DX07's blaster missing one or two greebles, but it also has a small diamond in the middle of it, which is a feature unique to Denix Mauser C96 replicas. Denix C96s were not used to make props in any of the movies, so Hot Toys were probably looking at a fan-made blaster replica when they were sculpting the blaster, but I can't really blame them since reference photos of Luke's hero blaster were probably a bit lacking back when they were making DX07. For DX25, they seem to have decided to take the sculpt based on the hero blaster and paint it to look like the stunt version seen on Dagobah and when Mark Hamill made an appearance on The Muppet Show in 1980. A couple stunt blaster props have been auctioned in the past, and you can see video of one here: ua-cam.com/video/OyCBGYdwQq8/v-deo.html. This ends up making DX25's blaster less accurate than DX07's since they didn't change the sculpt to match the different version of the blaster. Funnily enough, if you look at the prototype DX25 used in the product photography, it actually does have a blaster with a new sculpt to match that version of the prop, so I guess Hot Toys kinda cheaped out in the end. I'd still rather have the DX07 blaster, though, since the hero prop was a higher quality metal piece meant to be used in close-ups, while the stunt prop that was the basis for the DX25 blaster was just a fiberglass/resin piece never meant to be seen too closely.
Justin if you figure out exactly what usb c cables work with the base feel free to post the info. I don’t see hot toys ever including a usb cable for there light up bases
If you're a Luke fan and you can swing the price point just get both, you won't regret it. I don't think you're making a bad decision if you get one over the other. I'm going to display this Luke with Hot Toys Empire Yoda and R2
@JustinsCollection you complain of the boots not being the same and the older being a bit better? Is it possible to swap the older boots to the new figure if the new ones start flaking?
Great review as usual, Justin! But I find it bizzare we have yet to see a version of Luke in his Victory Celebration outfit from ANH. That's always been one of my favorites! Come on, Hot Toys!
JUSTIN, are you getting the same figures we buy?? The DX25 version I bought, brand new factory sealed, was disappointing for me because the two LED base plates, with the USB-C connector extended, do not sit tightly enough to keep the red LED floor base plate lights on unless I hold them together in just the right position. soon as I let go, off goes the lights. For an expensive DX version of a figure, the lighting build quality is a major letdown!! Also I agree Hot Toys skimped on the package design and box art for a DX version.
That jacket is crazy tight and cannot be removed. Did they stitch it on him?? Also, did you have any trouble removing his default arm to replace it with the light up lightsabre arm? Looks tight...
THE HOT TOYS LUKE SKYWALKER DX25 EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, IS TRULY A MASTERPIECE! IT ALSO COMES WITH A STAND AND ACCESSORIES INCLUDED. AND THE BOX COVER IS TOTALLY AMAZING! GREAT AWESOME CONTENT JUSTIN! AS ALWAYS, THANKS FOR SHARING!
Hi Justin, hope all is well with you :) They did such a great job with this Luke! I can’t get over how cool the base looks and how amazing that Darth/Luke helmet looks. I agree the head sculpt is spot on, the hair options are nice and the figure does look different when you switch them out. The clothing fit is nearly perfect on this figure. It’s funny how the innovations they made with the newer model make it some what more distinguished. I absolutely love seeing the “Bespin Group” (Luke, Han, Leia and Lando) together the way you showed it. I personally would want to show the dining room scene with Vader at the head of the table pulling Han’s blaster… Thanks for the video 💎😊
Could be wrong, but I believe the new DL-44 is more accurate. The DL-44s In empire were not made from actual Mausers they were mostly made of resin casts of a MGC kit of a Mauser so most of the blasters were resin. that Diamond on the left side of The blaster is from that kit. The resin blasters weren’t painted super amazingly either and the broom handles were completely black. On the resin ones that is. They did have some hero MGC kits built but I think those were mostly used for Han not for Luke.
The diamond is actually from a Denix Mauser C96 replica, which isn't quite as high quality as the MGC replicas and was not used to make props in any of the movies. Hot Toys must have used fan-made replicas for reference when sculpting it, which has also happened in official art of the DL-44.
Awesome figure from my favourite SW, but I do think the mando one is more badass with the robe etc. hmmm decisions decisions 😂 will probably end up with both 🤷🏻♂️ good review like always mate
Awesome review! The wind swept hair swap makes the figure come to life! How do I get my hands on that hair piece without spending over $600.00 for the figure??
I like both. But i like the looseness of the original. In the movie his clothes were not so tight on him. But it is the boots on the new one that i do not like at all. I like the original boots
This looks damn nice with the usb power on , but damn( the Mandalorian )Luke with Grougu is damn nice to, if i had to pick one , i would get the DX23 Luke
That's like asking if Pizza is better than sushi. You just gotta go with the look that works best for you. Bespin vs Bespin on the other hand... this one destroys the DX07
Justin, quick question... you always order from Toys Wonderland, is that why you get your figures before anyone else? their prices are even better than Sideshow
@JustinsCollection Thank You Justin... I might have to order from them. I wonder if shipping to US will have a big delay of I order from them. Sorry for all the questions.
Damn, thought I would be content with my DX07, but the outfit really does look rough as hell next to this one and like something from an old Sideshow figure from 15 years ago. Lol. Think I'd probably continue using the DX07 boots though.
Damn, I was going to skip this one, because I'm very picky about the color of the suit and the prototype seen in the promo images was too creamy yellow/sandy for me. It just didn't look right. But this new one is much less saturated and looks very close to my mind's eye image of the suit.
Justin, banging vid as always! I was looking forward to the crazy head swaps! I wanted to see if this head looked good on the OG ROTJ Luke for an upgrade. What's your thoughts on that?
Hm. The outfit is too tight on the new one. I reckon they based this off of the 'model' / glamor pictures rather than stills from the movie. In the model pictures, it's tight like it is here, but in the movie itself, it's a lot 'baggier' like the DX07 was. Theres a middle ground between these that would have been perfect but in terms of how its fitted the slight bagginess of the dx07 is more accurate.
My favourite Luke, from my favourite scene, from my favourite Star Wars film Empire Strikes Back.
Dope!

Empire strikes back is probably one of the movies ever made

Such a special experience with DX07!

No problem!
Never known why people love the old DX, the headsculpt looks dreadful, even back then. New one should look incredible with Vader staring him down. Great review.
Haha fair enough!
I agree much better with the new face of the Dx 25
DX07 main sculpt looks a little like a young Mick Jagger
Oh lol
My favourite is the battle dammaged DX07. Its perfect.

Sublime figure! Amazing one!
It really is!
Apparently Luke stopped off at a tailor shop to get his uniform fitted so he could present himself to his new Jedi master well. This Luke looks great!
Haha he sure did!

I agree the sabers need to be brighter like they used to be!
Bespin Family Photo was dope 👌

Nice figure. I can always count on your detailed reviews!
Thank you!
Great review as always, these figures just keep getting better and better. especially the tailoring on the clothing.
Thank you!
Lowest price new that I can find this is 344.00 dollars! I want it, just not bad enough to spend that much on it.
Oh ok

Hey Justin. Great work - as always!
Just one thing to correct here: The Bespin-base is the standard one and the Dagobah is the deluxe ;)
Oh shit you're right! Thank you Tobi!
I got this figure too and it’s amazing! I do hope they reissue the return of the Jedi Luke, as that’s my favorite look for him and I missed the first version

Any cable will work its just the voltage of the plug that is specific. I used a battery bank and let it figure that part out
i feel like they cant make the swooshing straight because it might not fit in the blade.
They can
Wonder if the pants can be made to look baggier by pulling them out of the boots a bit to be more screen accurate
Maybe!
I know they want a uniform series look, but it's so funny that almost, if not always, the art under is so much cooler lol

💯 % Luke agreed! Great review Justin

I'm curious 🤔 does the new headsculpt fit the old 07 luke bespin body?
I don't think so
@JustinsCollection you complain of the boots not being the same and the older being a bit better? Is it possible to swap the older boots to the new figure if the new ones start flaking?
Nice figure. Also I finally made the jump to Hot Toys. Thanks Justin.
Heck yeah!
i have the Dx07, and i like it more than the new one
Ok!
You should have the dx25 with leai, Han, and Lando, the normal dx07 by himself doing training, and the dx07 bd version with vader
Not a bad idea!
Great review as usual, Justin! But I find it bizzare we have yet to see a version of Luke in his Victory Celebration outfit from ANH. That's always been one of my favorites! Come on, Hot Toys!
Agreed I'd love to see that!
Does the cord only come with the deluxe version? I got the standard one today and I had to use a spare iPad cord
They don't give you any cords at all unfortunately
COULD YOU DO A COMPLETE LUKE SKYWALKER COMPARISON WITH EVERY VERSION YOU HAVE???
Sure maybe one day!
Is the hair compatible with snowspeeder Luke?
Yes I believe so
it is a very good figure, Although it could improve in aspects such as hair, clothing and some battle damage, thanks for the video justin
Fair enough!
Have this on display lit up, looks great, created scenes on Dagobah and Cloud City with my DX07 as well, very happy, great review Justin!
Heck yeah!
Does this hair also connect with the a new hope luke?
Nope
The Vader head is exactly the same as the previous, right?
Yes just painted better
The hand you weren't sure about, isn't that the hand gesture he was using while raising the X-Wing?
Not sure on that
that is super cool
He is!
@@JustinsCollection 😎
The messy hairpiece is more reminiscent of training with Yoda vs his hair fighting Vader. The dx07 has a better hairstyle for the battle damaged.
True!

Is the shirt and pants separate pieces?
Yep!
The second flatter hair piece looks as if it was after he was in water.
Kinda
Yesssss to DX farmboy luke

They did such a great job with this Luke!

Thanks so much! My pleasure, I love this one too!
Could be wrong, but I believe the new DL-44 is more accurate. The DL-44s In empire were not made from actual Mausers they were mostly made of resin casts of a MGC kit of a Mauser so most of the blasters were resin. that Diamond on the left side of The blaster is from that kit.
