    When I make hexicardis, i only make the original hexigans wide enough to fit my arms. For the rest, I add to the back and to the length.

      @ShannonTalksYarn  9 місяців тому +5

      I hadn’t thought about that but I can see how that would totally work! Especially if the perfect sleeve size is a must. I love it, thank you for sharing, that’s a great tip! 😃

    • @weenbaby
      @weenbaby 9 місяців тому +1

      @@ShannonTalksYarn my first one I made a bit wide so I have huge bubble sleeves 🤣. I’m working on another where I’m making the sleeves about 7 inches flat. When I join it’ll make them about 8.
      There’s a hexicardi video where she makes one that is no sew and that’s the one I usually follow. You should check it out!
      The *only* problem with doing it that way is it kind of stops the hexagon pattern but it shouldn’t matter if you only use one colorway in yarn. I hope it makes sense.

      I wish I read this before I started mine I of course started with one pattern then realized how huge the sleeves would be if I did it the way the pattern maker did on Etsy and then came for this to save it. I’m not going to trash it of course but I think it will be my house sweater for like being cozy on the sofa and make another with the same idea you had. I think that will be better!

    As a short, round guy looking to make myself some sweaters, I appreciate the sizing tips-- oversized is cozy, and I do like that, but if the fit on the sleeves is too big, then I just wind up feeling like a child playing dress-up in grandpa's closet...
    If I were making this for one of the cottagecore/hippie girlies in my life, though, I love the idea of going cropped and maybe having a wrap/tie closure to bring it in in the front a little, and using a tie and tassel to add visual interest back in after going monochromatic... Honestly, you're giving me a ton of ideas that wouldn't work on me but would look great on other people I know who share my struggles with sizing and proportions.

    I am five foot two. The struggle is real with our clothes making us look even shorter. I am short waisted as well, so that presents some problems. I like the idea of a cropped cardigan.

I don’t have an experience with Swish but I’ve heard it’s good yarn! I made a seat cushion from heartland and loved it. My friend Kristen Crochets made a sweater out of the heartland colorway that is grey with multi colored tweed and she said it pilled really quickly. If you make a short, short one, you can sew onto the bottom edge a flowy camisole type fabric to add fluidity which is very flattering- sort of like wearing a longer camisole underneath. I like the thinner yarn version which UA-camr ‘Darya Crochetlife’ used with a 3mm crochet hook. And Brazilian ‘Ela Carol Costa’ used a 10mm crochet hook on her hot pinky red hexagon cardigan which is flowy too. But yours fits you nicely for a snuggly winter version- we need one of each 👍😊 The rest of the world uses mm’s as a Universal needle sizer so we can all understand each other 😊

    I'm looking to make a fairly large cardigan (probably 3X size) and I'm super new to crochet. in the back when adding shoulder length before sowing I see mostly adding 4 inches (roughly like 3 rows to each side) before sowing together, would it work to just add more rows in the back or would it make the sweater look wonky?
    I appreciate you're tips and will definitely be using them. :)

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  10 місяців тому +3

      I think it all kind of depends on the yarn and the look you’re going for. I made one that was brown with blue trim and the back rows were very noticeable but I thought it worked out nice. For the one in the video it was verigated yarn and I thought my back seam looked a little odd. I think if I would have used plain black to sew it together it wouldn’t have looked so odd!

      I believe with this particular yarn (Herrschner’s worsted) I did 18 to make the 22 inch measurement I wanted for each panel. I just make mine till the are the width of my shoulders. Since both panels are folded, it equals my shoulder width. I did one with a Caron cloud cake and it’s much finer and I think I had to do 22 or 23 rounds to get to my 22 inch measurement. But I actually don’t add any additional rows going down the back. I just seam them together. And then after they are seamed together you can add additional rows on the bottom to get the length you want. I’m not sure if what I said makes sense tho…..let me know!

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  Місяць тому +1

      Since two panels are folded and sewn together to make the back piece, and I wanted it to be the width of my shoulders, not oversized. I made each panel the width of my shoulders, in my case, about 22 inches, so that once folded it would equal 22 inches. I have a hard time explaining details like that!

    • @BionicGinger
      @BionicGinger 29 днів тому +1

      @ ugh me too, I have zero concept of spacial awareness 🥴 so do you mean that you made the length of one side of the hexagon (since all the sides are equal) to be the same as the length from one shoulder to the other? Or are you saying that you only made each hexagon big enough for the armpit to hit right up against your body and with no bagginess to the sleeve? I think I’m confused about what “width of shoulders” means cuz to me, that means the measurement from from one shoulder to the other, but I can’t see how that would be helpful for this particular project so I don’t *think* that’s what you mean..?

    • @ShannonTalksYarn

      i made the sleeves the length I wanted, then did one row of SC around the opening. I did another row of SC where I added only a couple decreases in that row. And then did another with a couple decreases, I just added them in a bit randomly. I just wanted to cinch it a bit. You could also do a couple rows of SC and weave in some elastic in the wrist band if that would be easier! I think I'll go that route when I make the next one! I like stretchy

    How many rounds on the Hexagon cardigan for size plus 3x

      It will definitely depend on your yarn, hook size and tension, but what I always do is crochet until the width of one panel is the same as my shoulder to shoulder width, since you will be making 2 panels and folding them in half. And if you want the cardigan longer length you can add extension rows on the bottom. Hopefully that makes sense!

    Is there a pattern for this sweater?

    • @ShannonTalksYarn

      I don’t use one but my friend Krista Crochets has had success with Craft and a Cuppa’s hexagon cardi pattern! You can make these modifications to any hexagon cardi pattern!

    Where can i find the pattern i need one

      Hi Karen! I never really use a pattern for hexagon cardigans I just make each panel the width of my shoulders, that way it fits when hooded in half and sewn together. At that point I add extra length to sleeves so they fit and if you want extra length in the torso you add rows then.
      But a friend of mine has success with one from Craft and a Cuppa here on YT, and I believe The Snugglery has a good one too!

      Love the way this came out. Would you be able to tell me what stitch you did around the edges? It gives it such a nice finish.

      Once in a while I will post a video with instructions on how to make a particular project, but no I don’t do traditional top down tutorials at this point
