Caleb Burhans - Lontano

Caleb wrote this beautiful piece in memorial of his good friend Matt Marks, who was my colleague and friend, that we tragically lost too soon. It was commissioned and recorded by Gerry Pagano, and is a beautiful addition to the bass trombone repertoire.
* This work should be performed in an extremely reverberant setting such as a silo or cathedral. If such acoustics are unavailable, the sound should be heavily processed with a similar reverb effect. Performers may breathe at any point with the exception of slurs.
Lontano may be staged with the performer as distant from the audience as possible (offstage).

Lontano means distant, far away, or vague in Italian. The piece seems to evoke that sense of reaching out for an intangible spirit, familiar, but unobtainable
