The remake is worse since it has less unique characters which weakens the world building. The crew of the Koopa Cruiser had their flight clothing removed for boring Koopa Troopas, same with the Toads in Little Fungi Town.
You know, that was actually a point that I originally wanted to bring up during the rant about Bink on the SS Chuckola. It didn’t really make or break it as a remake, but it was one of the design elements that was a poor choice and I agree with that.
