Wow I was scammed so hard by agent asking for money. I gave up my dream of acting when I was teen. NYC is pit pot of scams. Wish I had this knowledge at the time.
Ah I’m so sorry, that’s awful! I’m not sure how old you are but it is genuinely never too late to start. So many top A lister actors moved into acting later on in life. If you still want to pursue acting, I would say, go for it.
It is absolutely possible for you to get an agent. Before you apply to any agent make sure they are the right agent for you. Perhaps an agent that has young people and adults on their books, so as you progress in your career and get older, you can stay with them, progress and build a strong relationship with them. If you’re planning on sending an email, always triple check everything you submit to make sure you put your best foot forwards. Good luck!
I actually started with Goldman’s by being introduced to them by Richard Lock. We met at a production of Annie, after a brief conversation I got their contact details and emailed over my Resume a monologue and a recent headshot. So way number 2 ;)
Had this just today... Offered a Contract by a Management Agency and they expect me to pay £50 a month just to be on their books. Disgraceful. I won't mention the name. I'll continue to reach out to Agents who I think might accept me on the books. I'm now not apprehensive about reaching out to well established Agents. At the end of the day, it's in their interest as well as mine. Never be an empty vessel. Know your worth.
£50 to be on their books ins crazy, what justification did they have to ask that money? In my opinion the only reason an agent would ask for a monthly fee, is because they are unsure that they have the ability to get work for you and earn commission...
You would not want me negotiating anything for you, I hate discussing money, thats why I love having an agent. If you signed with me you'd be working for free a lot, purely from my awkwardness in asking for money 😂
Thanks for this video, very useful information! I just have a few questions, does an agent expect you to do just a single monologue, or do you have to perform more than one? How do you find agencies to begin with? They can be so elusive. And lastly, I’m a singer as well, so should I come prepared with something to sing?
I'm glad you found the video helpful! Typically i'd say one strong monologue is better than 5. A singing reel would be great or just one strong song. Make sure to put your best foot forward. Less is sometimes more. As for finding an agent, networking and researching online can be great starting point, however, i'd say before you reach out to an agent/agency try reaching out to a couple of their clients first and try and get some information, not all agents are good agents and you want to make sure they're right for you as well as you being right for them.
Hello brother , My name is Harry , I am an actor , soon will be in london for a shoot , Your video is very helpful, i would really like to meet you , how can i be in touch with you
Do i have a higher chance of signing with a good agent that could get me into big film industries if i bulk up my resume with student films and theatre classes and school acting clubs? Or is it all just luck
I’d say showing your acting experience is more beneficial than stating that you have none. Showing that you DO have acting experience will be beneficial. However, if you don’t have any professional experience, the only thing an agent has to go on, is the quality of the performance you present, whether through an acting reel or a live performance. Being signed by a reputable agent means they’re investing in you, so you need to prove that you’re a good investment and that you’ll represent their agency well when they put you forward for auditions. I hope that helps :)
Hey! I suggest researching various agents to find one that aligns with your specific goals. Prepare stuff like a headshot, CV, and an example of your acting. Then when you're ready, look for their contact information on their website or social media pages and reach out from there! I hope that helps, let me know how it goes and if you have any other questions!
