Took me a while, but now that I read the lyrics I understand what this song means. Haha. It is about money being a meaningless pursuit, that money doesn't make us who we are. Before listening to the words I always thought bread, food, not bread, money. I feel dumb, but I could never keep up with the fast singing and I rarely listen to this album's songs. (I still love this album, though.)
@@jhonsonthedetective2146 NO.....The lyrics encourage the listener to remain true to themselves, to never give in, and to stay away from those who seek to encourage greed and manipulation. The song speaks of a "breadfan" and a "seagull," two different metaphors for different kinds of people. The "breadfan" is someone who is constantly seeking more wealth and luxury, whereas the "seagull" is resistant to these temptations, preferring to stay true to themselves, even if it means struggling financially. Ultimately, the song encourages the listener to stay true to their values and not be swayed by those around them.

I thought it was about being a fan of the band Bread 🍞 . Yeah though you're right and isn't it a tad ironic that a few years later they sued some kid and tried to take his parents house for downloading master of puppets off Napster 😂
I'm old nuff to remember this bein the B side on the Eye of the beholder cassette single back in the day. Only way u could have a copy of it then or someone recorded it for ya from the cassette. Was no Internet n music sharing shit. Good times. Now we live in cuckoo land 😂
Garage Days nearly made my top favorite album (Master of Puppets won). It felt cathartic, like an outpouring of grief (and love) to Cliff, who everyone knew was right there in spirit.

Fluffy went off to a farm to go live with other Fluffies just like him (actually Dad just backed over him with the car, but how do you tell that to a kid?)
the song is about living life with that money, not saving and being a miser because in the end we die and lose it all, so go use it and spread it around. give it all away. be free
2:50, Reminds me about the time me and my lover were about to break up, resulting in Anine's Bodyguard, committing suicide, just hours after her husband (Anine's Techinal Advisor) filed for divorce.
Anine was one of many classmates, who was assembled at my high school for just two years. Following her departure she was retained to continue work as a musician. She rarely sang, and her voice was done electronically with a little bit of help from her assistant. Like my former classmate, Christine and many others. 2001 indicated her birth year. She was one of the additional people to be assembled in our group named Club Jona. She didn’t see me after leaving High School in real life. After departure, she was only mentioned. I never saw her again. She was featured on a dramatic film, that lasted 37 minutes. Cursing the fallin’ rain once again, another groupmate, Zira, lost her Supervisor when he went up to the leisure centre alone, and no one followed him. The following day, my family member Mathilde found him dead in a pool. The cause of death was drowing. It was the Lindmo event, that influcenced me quite a lot, resulting in Mathilde working from the age of 12 before entering her teen age, the following year. Mathilde was confirmed to be our youngest member in our group. I considered the Lindmo event, quite dramatic, resulting in 9 more deaths 3 days after filming. Mathilde then closed the entire pool, to drain out the water. Some of the water was combined with Radioactivity, and none of us could afford any fire damage to our leisure centre (Norges Idrettshøgskole). Zira, herself died no more than just 16 months later, while being hospitalized in Sweden. Her father then died 4 days after her, and her mother the following month following a terrible crash during the 2nd phase of The World’s Strongest Apocalypse, set to hit Earth on Friday 13 April 2029.
jordan davidson It is. Not sure about the year, but this was originally released as the b-side to either One or Harvester of Sorrow. If I remember right, this was with one of them and The Prince was the b-side to the other.
Sorry but the original Garage Days did not have Jason Newstead in the band as the picture above shows The original photo does not show any of the bands only the garage where they practiced in. there were actually two Garage days albums and neither featured Jason....... the first was a CD sold at concerts after Kill 'em all.... the second was Re-Revisited...

Their last album came out in 1988. Everything else has been crammed down our throats since then. 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Metallica & RHCP are fans of the original tune.
I love how this song sounds like it was recorded during the Death Magnetic sessions..
What
It was recorded during the ...AJFA sessions
Wtf are you talking about? It sounds nothing like Death Magnetic. What a dumb assessment.
I can see that lol
Ah breadfan a brilliant version of a Budgie classic, I wonder if Budgie tweet?

Didnt expect that slow part in the middle.
yeah it kinda ruins the song for me. not totally ruined but they song would be way better without it
+Jackson Barrow i disagree. i love that slow part.
exactly, this song owns start to finish
I wish they played the slow section when they play it live, I love that section
I love that slow part the guitar tone on that part is awesome I wish I knew how to get a guitar tone like that

Boy it's open up your mind, go look up the original song "Breadfan-budgie"
This isn't Metallica song
What kills me is that Metallicas Covers are better than their original music. This song for one. Same with Helpless and various others.

Great cover

Justin Hartman that would 1988
This is from 1987 and Justice is from 1988, It actually sounds like mix with his KEA, RTL, MOP and Justice voice
It was the b-side to Eye of the Beholder
Metallica released a cover of the song in September 1988 as a B-side to their "Harvester of Sorrow" single.
