    Hello I have worked out how much cement and and sand I need for mortar but if I where going to use 215 mm dence concrete blocks does the amount of mortar I need differ and how do I work it out thanks for your help Rob

    • @robsonger1
      @robsonger1  8 років тому

      Stavros E
      yes, It would simply mean doubling the amount for a single skin.
      But, 215 concrete blocks are way too heavy to lay. I suggest 2 100mm skins with stainless steel ties between them.

      rob songer there's 2 of us and it's only 3 course high, can you lift them of the ground your self?

    • @robsonger1
      @robsonger1  8 років тому

      Stavros E
      a 215 concrete block will weigh just under a bag of cement (25kg)
      ...so 19 - 22kg, too heavy for one person

      rob songer okay so when using 2 100 mm blocks with ties together would you put mortar between them or with out and if so would you work out the mortar you need with they same method as in this video?

    • @robsonger1
      @robsonger1  8 років тому +1

      Stavros E
      the collar joint needs flushing up with mortar once the course has been laid. So, possibly add a third again of your total to allow for that

    Hi Rob, I would like to ask why you didn´t calculate here wastage? Since you have calculated wastage in lesson 8. Many thanks for your videos. They are very helpful.

    If a brick is 60 per meter sq and there is 60 kg per m sq for mortar ,,,,if a block is 10 per meter sq what do you need motor wise per block 3 kg of motor

    • @chick262

      Thanks very much ,,,quastion do you know of any informative books that cover all aspects of bricklaying ie bonding ,,,chiemneys,,,and the type of work your doing like archs and ramped walls e.t.c ,,,

      hello Brian, I have many books from my apprenticeship, through my teaching years and even more that I have collected from secondhand bookshops. But...if I was to recommend any of all these great books I have, I would suggest the Nash books,
      there are 3, books 1, 2 & 3 lol....and as apprentices these books covered everything.
      They are a little dated now (ie. timbered trenches, and clay pipe drainage) but the principles towards brickwork are very good and sadly not taught to this degree anymore.
      Thank you again for watching.
      by the way, I will have my own books/notes available in the future.

    Where is that 60 comes from?

    • @robsonger1
      @robsonger1  6 років тому

      hello, the 60 is, there are 60 bricks per square metre (m2) and is takes on average 1 kilogram (kg) to lay 1 brick, therefore, 60kg/m2
      I hope that helps and thank you for watching.
