    Thank you so much for generously sharing this pattern! It might take me 3 months to a year to accomplish this, but once the pattern is adjusted for me and I have made one, I can make more. I'm in my wisdom years, and have been dreaming about making my own supportive undergarments for decades! Thank you again. All of your videos are such a pleasure.

    Gosh, thank you for your generosity in sharing this pattern. It has taken me many years to get up the courage to start to wear more vintage style clothing and now I have come across your wonderful video. I will hopefully have my own bullet bra shortly.

    Really like the blouse your wearing (also the light peach slip/camisole). Looks nice (and comfy) and like linen. Is it your pattern? A supima sateen would be nice of the bra .

    I have not watched any of the other bra making videos and you may answer this question in one of them, however, I'm hoping you will answer here also. What if one's breasts are different sizes? How is that addressed in making a bra? Thanks for your time and generosity in creating a free pattern.
    I want a long line bra to support my ribs when I get bad coughing spells because I tend to dislocated ribs otherwise. And I need a lighter weight material because I live in Florida.

    • @hotjanuary
      @hotjanuary Рік тому +2

      You have two options. Either make the cups different sizes to fit each breast, or make both cups the same size (fit the larger breast) and add padding to the other one.

      It sounds to me that you would benefit from wearing an actual corset, maybe a corded one instead of boned, and made from lightweight fabrics. Maybe @KatherineSewing could weigh in on this?

  • @ashleighoverturf3599

    I got all excited and printed these patterns out, then I realised that for me, who has never made clothes before, the instructions are not sufficient to understand how to make them. :/

    Do you think that this pattern would work for someone with 21 cm BCD? That is just over twice the BCD as the pattern, so I am wondering if it would be worth trying? This is for someone whose bust is very pendulous and whose bust roots are very wide, but vertically very short, so cup height will likely be fine, but may need to be widened. Bust roots are between 2.5" and 3" tall, about 6.3-7.6 cm tall. I will share your pattern link in the Sew Busty community if you think this pattern will work for a very large bust. Thanks!

    • @KatherineSewing
      @KatherineSewing  2 роки тому +3

      Hi, that is a great question! I would really appreciate you sharing this pattern! 💕 This pattern can work for anyone, but it really all depends on their level of comfort and experience with grading patterns and making significant changes. As long as they are not afraid to make drastic additions, have a good sense of what part of the pattern relates to what part of the body, and are willing to take the time to make some mock-ups, it could definitely work. Having a well fitting bra of their own on hand, even if it is a different style, can be tremendously helpful to get a feel for the size and shape that the cups need to be. Taping the paper pattern pieces together before making a fabric mock-up can be very helpful as well (something I did plenty of during the drafting of this pattern) to get a feel for how the pattern pieces relate to the body.
      A benefit of this particular pattern for the Sew Busty community would be that it is designed to fit women with a more extreme bust to underbust ratio than what is typically offered in bra patterns, and is very supportive. I would really appreciate the pattern share! 😍

      @@KatherineSewing I just shared! I am excited to make this bra. I just watched your other 2 videos about vintage bras and about drafting this one. I wore a 1940s/1950s bra style in my early 20s and I agree, it was more supportive than any modern bra! The company that made them stopped manufacturing in 2005 (they lost their roof in a storm, I think maybe Hurricane Katrina, so all their equipment and supplies were ruined and they never rebuilt). I still have those bras. They are now very heavily mended and I only wear them on special occasions when I need more support than a modern bra can provide, such as when I attend a wedding. Modern bras make me look sloppy, and even custom-made bras don't fit me very well and don't provide enough support. And I agree, I look much thinner, and also much more put-together, in a vintage style bra. I'm very excited to try your pattern! I wonder, have you tried on any knit tops over it? Did the lines show through? I'm thinking about adding an extra layer of fabric over the cups to make them look more smooth. The decorative stitching is lovely, but perhaps not entirely practical for my existing wardrobe. Because I'm very busty, I tend to pop open buttons on most OTR shirts (or else strain the fabric in an unsightly way), so I have a lot of knit tops and sweaters, and not very many woven cotton or linen shirts (the ones I have are all loose-fitting, since that's been the only way to accommodate my bust without an FBA). I've been planning to make corsets from several eras to see if they'd work better for me than bras. I already made 1780s stays, but they work under very few of my shirts and dresses. Between what I've learned from Sew Busty and your longline pattern (which I hope would solve both the problems I had with my regular-band vintage style bras...deep grooves in my shoulders that have never gone away, and swollen, weeping welts at the band area from friction and pinching), I think I can make this (albeit with many mock-ups). I think longline may just be the answer! And it would help re-distribute the weight of the bust across the entire torso, instead of suspending all of that weight from the shoulders (which is what caused those permanent shoulder grooves).

    • @KatherineSewing
      @KatherineSewing  2 роки тому +1

      @@songsofsusannah Great! I don't wear knit tops any more, but I imagine that with a tight-fitting tank top underneath the knit shirt, it would probably work fine! Yes I love long line bras! Good luck! 💕

    Thank you so much! Sorry to bother you, but to make the cups bigger, is it basically just the opposite of how you adjusted smaller? Essentially just extend that same line out to the bottom cup depth for the bottom cup pieces, and a similar amount for the top?
    Either way I will experiment and tweak a bit. I can hardly find bra cups in my size and I really don't want to have to have surgery on them, if I could just find some comfortable support. Preferably without underwires. I am so tired of only being able to wear sports bras daily.
