Father John Ricardo is also someone who you may benefit from hearing. He's on EWTN and Ave Maria Radio. Everything he does is grounded in history and reason while explaining the faith in the most consice way. He really gets to the heart of the matter. Epsiode 747 on the Ave Maria Radio archives is one of my favorites. He is also on UA-cam on the OLGCPlymouth channel. God Bless you.

Bishop Barrón quotes Acts 4,12 in this video. “12 Salvation is found in no one else,” It’s very clear cut, the question here is not whether an Atheist, Buddhist, Hindu believes it. They Don’t. The question is whether we(you and I) believe it.
In verse 17 something interesting happens and we have to be careful not to fall in this group of non-believers. “17 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”
18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.” IT’S Very difficult and troubling to speak truth it will get us in trouble. But Peter and John we not afraid of hurting peoples feeling when speaking TRUTH because TRUTH is JESUS(John 14,6) In verse 19 (Acts 4,19) the answer Peter and John give has to become our answer “19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges!”
Love and truth go together, you cannot have one with the other. Peter were very determined to speak truth even to other people from other religions and non-believers.

There are other passages such as the one on Mark 16. He says that if ones gets baptized will be saved but if not that person will not be saved. And in Matthew 28 it says that if priest do not forgive our sins they are not forgiven. Also in John 6 says that if we do not eat his body and do not think his blood we have no eternal life. And finally he says there are two paths and narrow is the path for salvation and few are the ones that walk on it. St Peter says if is hard for us christians to be saved is even harder for those who are not. That is why we need Christ and his church.

@@BishopBarron Vatican I warned against reinterpreting dogmas under the guise of a " deeper understanding". We must not follow the example of the modern world in their rush to alter the definition of words, particularly if these word games would change the very meaning of the dogmas of the Church. Dogmas must be understood as they always have been, pronounced, preserved and passed down by Mother Church from the ages.
"Hence, also, that understanding of its sacred dogmas must be perpetually retained, which Holy Mother Church has once declared; and there must never be recession from that meaning under the specious name of a deeper understanding "Therefore […] let the understanding, the knowledge, and wisdom of individuals as of all, of one man as of the whole Church, grow and progress strongly with the passage of the ages and the centuries; but let it be solely in its own genus, namely in the same dogma, with the same sense and the same understanding.'' [Vincent of Lerins, Commonitorium, 23, 3]." - Dei Filius

Thank you Bishop for your fervor for Jesus! In my understanding Jesus' name is Agape Mature Unconditional Love & Mercy & and he gave us his Holy Spirit of compassion and He became sin and on the cross of judgment. forgave us so that we would not perish so that we could stay in Father God's family for eternity. God recently tapped me on the shoulder to let me turn around to repent from looking at all the wrong things to repent from listening to the devil turning around to look upon the face of Jesus who is perfect love that drives out fear and nothing else matters besides His love, pure joy and pure peace. We can choose to draw close to him becoming prodigals praying for those who are beat up by the devil like all who sinned & begin to protect others in love in prayer for HIS glory so that they might see Him with His love grace mercy and compassion. God said He gave me my brain and said he could take it away and he can give it back. He is my Lord. He honors us with giving us the privilege to wash each other's feet from the dust of stepping on one another in our attempts to justify our theology. Lord have mercy for we still don't fully understand how to love one another as you have loved us. Repent & be baptized in the fullness of the Lord!

There are only Catholic Christians in heaven, but likely many of them were not Catholic Christians while on earth. The latter are perhaps those who learned their catechism in Purgatory. Purgatory can begin on this earth, in this life, but is often not finished until the next life. And it is temporary. In heaven our life is permanent and all who live there embrace the one, holy and apostolic faith, only they understand it far better than any of us here on earth. But you don't have to be a juridical Catholic on earth to begin your journey. But you shouldn't reject it when grace shows it to you. When called to the faith, you had better go all the way, and not look back. Trust in God. He will help you.

Here is the thing. Christ is the way the truth and the life - he is also the gateway to the father. Whether introduction to the truth (Jesus), comes in this life or at the end of it or after it is up to God to decide. God is merciful, Christ is merciful if you expect or desire anything less than this from the father and son you are on the wrong path.

What Cardinal Newman meant is that the unadulterated, pristine conscience of a CHILD is the 'aboriginal vicar of Christ in the soul' - not that of ANY 'sincere' non-believer...
We have all fallen short of the Glory of God and we all tend to compromize over time.
Saint Thomas says that an act which is evil in itself can never be pleasing to God - even if done in accord with one's conscience.
In other words, doing something wrong, at best, will not be held againt you but it won't make you pleasing in the eye of God either - indeed, it will still be an affront to Him.
To be pleasing to God, the first thing to do is BELIEVE (like Abram) - which, by defintion, is NOT the case of the un-believer...
How then can the un-believer be saved if he lacks initial justification and sins without remorse because his conscience is faulty - even his good deeds are lost because they're not done for the love of God?
Is there a reason why you cite Vatican II documents and never previous ones?
It's not like the Church started in the 1960s...

How’s that going for you? Have you loved God perpetually and perfectly, as Christ does? Have you loved your neighbor as yourself perfectly? Test yourself by the 10 commandments.
There is a huge schism between God’s holiness and our unrighteousness. And God does not grade on a curve. This is why Ephesians 2 says we are deserving of wrath.
How can sinful man be reconciled to Holy God? Can you answer this question?

  • @JimdalfTheOrange

Bishop Barron, one question that has always bugged me, I’ve been doing a lot of reading of the Greek stoics/Sophists/cynics/Plato/Aristotle lately and my question is a simple one. I’ve read St. Paul and St. Ambrose were heavily influenced by the stoics, which makes sense when reading these philosophers, but they kind of molded these philosophies to “fit” Christianity. Please excuse the crudeness of my language here. We see this with St. Aquinas as well, being heavily influenced by Aristotle. I guess my question is, could it be possible that modern Catholic Theology has evolved into more of an Ancient Greek philosophy than Jesus ever intended? I am a Catholic, and I am searching for truth, and I think the truth is the Church. However, after reading/listening to Fr. Richard Rohr lately, it occurs to me, yes we are the “Roman” Catholic Church, that the ideas in the Church are very much in Western tradition. I guess I’m left thinking have we “Westernized” Christianity too much? Have we taken so much of western culture and shoved it into what Christianity is, that we are missing elements of what Christianity is meant to be?
Also, follow up question, seeing that many Church fathers used western/Greek philosophies to influence their teachings and to help establish the philosophical tradition of the Church, should we not be looking to take existentialist teachings and apply these to Christianity? I think my (millennial) generation greatly identifies with existentialism. Just as Paul used the stoic philosophy to help him explain Christianity, should we be using existentialist philosophy? I’ve always held the belief that what is “true” transcends time. While I don’t think Humanity will always be following existentialist teachings, I do believe there is a certain element of truth that has persuaded so many people. Would it not be possible to take this truth, revealed to us by the existentialists, and apply it to our current Christian philosophy, since Christianity is the objective truth?
Thank you for your time Bishop Barron, you have often been a light shining in the dark for me.

Heaven is a very select club. Not everyone can go. Sugar coating salvation is guiding the sheep to a pit. There is only one way. Christ alone.

  • @jakewhennessy
    @jakewhennessy Рік тому

Paul in Romans 3 says “no one seeks after God” Isaiah 53 says “all we like sheep have gone astray” Ephesians 2 says we have all become “children of wrath.”
Very clear that nobody is saved by “Christ” in their conscience. Conscience bears witness to the law. Nobody can be saved by the law. Yes, the unbeliever can do good to another person. But that is not the issue. The unbeliever does not do good according to God’s holy standard. This is why God says our good works are filthy rags to Him. God doesn’t not grade on a curve. His standard to enter heaven is perfection. Either be judged by God for your sin, or rest in Christ who drank the cup of God’s wrath on behalf of all who believe.

Jesus is the way the truth and the life no one goes thru the Father except thru Him...He is the cornerstone and thru His Church...there is no salvation outside the Church...Jesus and His Church is the fulness of Truth...caveat through no fault of one's own and thru invincible ignorance one can be saved...in the light they do see...yet it is very difficult without all the graces and sacraments Jesus gives us thru His one holy apostolic Church....likewise a Christian ..a Catholci Christian in the fullness can lose their salvation....be careful of extremes we should want everyone to have the fullness in Christ's Catholic Church...it gives us the way to get to heaven fully and we should want all to be Catholic....however those not exposed to the Church or its Truth due to invincible ignorance bad teaching etc may not be fully culpable of this...only God can judge...we should evangelize all....and warn them at same time we don't know their heart...I bet Billy Graham may be in heaven ....ie a baby born to an indigenous tribe cut off from the world follows natural law and light they see ...would God condemn them? At same time if they search for the Truth find it in Jesus and His Church amd reject it with full understanding as a Catholic who abandons their faith objectively they are placing their soul in mortal peril...God knows if there are mitigating circumstances...if they truly had invincible ignorance......we can only warn but not judge...and we can only warn them if we remove the beam out of our eyes first.

I'm not one of your denomination, but a Christian of an other tradition with close and friendly relations with the R.C.Ch. I'm not a frequent viewer but I've caught a few of your movie reviews and a few of the more general reflections on broader issues within Christianity.
This is clearly one of your best efforts, your Grace. I suspect it will not go down well with both triumphalist types in your own flock and with the fundamentalist wing of evangelical Protestants. They, at least in some cases (not to sound too judgmental here) have a deep psychological investment in exclusivism. My way or no way. My club membership as ticket to Paradise, based solely on the good luck of being predestined to be born in a Christian household and country and culture. Some in the fundamentalist wing of Roman Catholicism will even exclude me who believes in the contents of all the great creeds of the church, and much more in common with you.
But our God and Lord is not so fickle. In the parable of the Good Shepherd, didn't the Gospel of John say something about "others who are not of this flock", who perhaps even unknowingly "will listen to my voice" as Jesus said in that parable. They too will have the opportunity of salvation.

PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY AS IF YOUR ETERNAL “LIFE” DEPENDED ON IT
In the Book of Hebrews Chapter 10 in context the author was talking to “baptized” Christians (Hebrews 10:22) telling them to not be “neglecting to meet together” in “the Church” - being the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH. Why “the Church”???
***Hebrews **10:26**-29 “For IF WE SIN DELIBERATELY after receiving knowledge of the truth, THERE NO LONGER REMAINS A SACRIFICE FOR SINS, BUT A FEARFUL PROSPECT OF JUDGMENT, AND A FURY OF FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES………..HOW MUCH MORE PUNISHMENT DO YOU THINK WILL BE DESERVED BY THE MAN WHO HAS SPURNED THE SON OF GOD, AND PROFANED THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT BY WHICH HE HAS SANCTIFIED, AND OUTRAGED THE SPIRIT OF GRACE”.***
What does Sacred Scriptures clearly say “IF WE SIN DELIBERATELY” or willfully break any of the commandments whether the old (10 Commandments) or NEW (Laws of LOVE or refusing to LOVE as Christ commands per John 13:34)??? If “THERE NO LONGER REMAINS A SACRIFICE FOR SINS, BUT A FEARFUL PROSPECT OF JUDGMENT”, then how does one obtain reconciliation with GOD again???
We must examine the old covenant to fully understand the NEW COVENANT. In Leviticus 5:5-6 and Numbers 5:5-9 we can understand what an old covenant Jew had to do to receive GOD's forgiveness. Additionally, GOD in the Books of Leviticus and Numbers any time personal “sin” is mentioned you will read over and over again “THUS THE PRIEST SHALL MAKE ATONEMENT FOR A MAN’S SINS AND IT WILL BE FORGIVEN” (Lev 4:20, 4:26, 4:31,4:35, 5:6, 5:10, 5:13, 5:16, 5:18, 6:7, 7:7, 12:8, 14:18, 14:19, 14:20, 14:29, 14:31, 15:15, 15:30, 16:32, 16:33, 19:22 Num. 6:11,15:25, and 15:28). In the old covenant, GOD uses ordained “men”, the Leviticus Priesthood, to administer His forgiveness.
Now, does GOD keep His WORD and covenant promises??? GOD promises to have a perpetual priesthood per His covenant in Numbers 25:12-13 and Malachi 2:4-7 and has WORDS of “forever” in Exodus 29:7-9, 40:15, and 1 Chronicles 23:13. Then, GOD promises to have a perpetual priesthood in Jeremiah 33:14-22 NEW COVENANT PROPHECY. Additionally, in context of “gathering the nations” in Isaiah 66:18 GOD states in Isaiah 66:21 “some of them also I will take for priests” meaning no longer based on Levi tribal lineage in the NEW COVENANT. In John Chapter 13, we see Jesus Christ fulfilling His Father’s Levi Covenant promise and Malachi 3:3 prophecy, when He sits down in the upper room “purifying” the NEW COVENANT PRIESTHOOD with a “washing”. This “washing” was a “forever” priestly liturgical GOD command in Exodus 30:21 in order to perform any altar work or sacrifice.
What “same” power does the Son of GOD give to His ONE and ONLY established Church or “the Church” per Matthew 16:19, 18:18 and specifically explained to the NEW COVENANT PRIESTHOOD by Jesus in John 20:21-23??? In 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 St. Paul describes what Jesus Christ did was He “GAVE US THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION” and concluded “SO WE ARE AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST”. An “ambassador” wields what kind of power as an “official representative” of Christ or more specifically explained in “the Church” as “persona Christi”???
Please come to your real home and be “reconciled” to “the Church” HIS ONE BODY (Ephesians 4:4-6). What did Jesus Christ create, pray for in John 17:21-23 and die for??? If you really LOVE Jesus Christ, then you will respond to His prayer and join the “ONENESS” that He created. The “Lamb of GOD” wants to unite with you in the NEW COVENANT PASSOVER (Luke 22:19) in His ONE and ONLY established Church, so we all can be “perfectly ONE”. May GOD richly bless you on your journey.

    Fullness ... Participation
I would disagree that there are "rays of light" in other religions. That's a contradiction to your point that followed that we're not on the different paths up the mountain.
"For a kingdom divided against itself shall not stand" and "He who is not with me is against me" or "and the lukewarm he shall spit from his mouth." These all seem to imply that Jesus desires zealous disciples, not a half in, half out "rays of light"
I would argue that it's despite their other religions that someone can be saved.

There is a difference between saying that there is no salvation outside of the Catholic Church and saying that someone who knows that the Catholic Church is the true Church and rejects it has no salvation.
The second version, although true is open to misunderstanding. Since someone who makes the conscience an absolute authority in terms of one's personal actions could agree with this statement yet not hold the first version. Thus many non Catholics may agree with saying that for someone who believes that outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation there is no salvation outside of the Catholic Church, yet they would not agree to saying "Outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation".
Do you see the difference? The same can be said about any mortal sin. We do not go around saying that Contraception is a sin if someone knows its a sin and still does it. We simply say its a sin. Full stop. Even if we know that incapable ignorance may excuse someone from the guilt of the sin.
Do you see the essential difference?

Gosh. I really do want to be Catholic. I love the reverence of your worship to God via ancient music. I love the respectful kneeling and the sign of the cross. I remember even as a child attending catholic school appreciating the wonder of a Catholic Church service. This is why it’s so disheartening to know that catholic theology is so dependent on catholic literature and figureheads rather than the inherent 66 books of the Bible. I was really hoping to see him not drift into religious pluralism/universalists tendencies here but to my dismay (and not my surprise) he did. If Catholics would affirm the exclusivity of salvation through Jesus Christ and deny works righteousness, they’d be off to a really great start.
And it’s not just Catholics. There is a reformed movement sweeping across our churches, even southern baptist churches that is spiritually dry, judgmental, and cold. Claiming to lean on sola scripture, they are just as likely to depend on the west minister confession of faith, or the shorter and longer catechism, or the TULIP acronym to defend their staunch Calvinism, as if it’s the word of God. Some are now even equating Calvinism to the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is, of course, heretical.
I go to a bible believing baptist church. And it’s a great church but I’m am growing tired of their irreverent rock band “worship”.
If there was a church, filled with born again, Bible believing, truth defending, passionate Christians who worshiped God with beautiful, reverent, Catholic like music and choirs, followed by gospel centered preaching from the word of God... wow. Wouldn’t that be something.
Until then, I’ll remain at my southern baptist church. They’re not perfect. But they really love Jesus, they believe the Bible, they serve and love each other, and are passionate for Jesus and living a set apart life for Him. Furthermore, besides the Calvinism that is starting to creep into the church, their theology is orthodox.
I do have an open heart for some of your teachings Bishop, and I hope you’ve noticed I’ve tried to maintain a respectful tone in this comment. Rarely do I leave comments. There is so much hate on the internet and I’m sure this one will draw so many hateful replies. It’s just that... I really did think you’d defend the exclusivity of Jesus here. I was thinking of attending a vigil mass this evening and got excited thinking, “maybe Catholics are at least biblical on the basic teaching”. It was just so disappointing to hear you speak of salvation by any other means.
Feel free to let me know if I’ve misunderstood. Be blessed.

Saying that a person who governs his actions by acting within the limits set by his "good conscience" can be saved troubles me. The statement implies that all have the moral law clearly stamped in their conscience. I don't believe this to be so. It seems to me that the values of conscience are established by one's environment, education and personal experience. Some may commit evil and have no problem with their own conscience.

Great answer! Bishop Barrón quoted Acts 4,12 but I urge you to continue reading thru verse 18, 19, 20, There is a reason why people are bothered 😕 you will find it here. “18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
Peter and John did not fear what other people thought or how others felt. It is because they were speaking truth.
      You see TRUTH =JESUS
John 14,6 “6Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.c From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”
Something doesn’t add up in this explanation.
1 Corinthians 3, 10-15 explain how others, nonbelievers and those not sanctified might be saved and it’s is thru FIRE 🔥.

Thank you for the video addressing this important topic. We also had another reading recently that is close to, but doesn't include where St. Paul says the time for ignorance is over and then goes further and points toward judgment. St. Paul also stated that salvation is being offered to every creature. I like what you have said, but I think it is important to pin some things down for the sake of practical use in life and peace. I know drawing any hard lines is difficult here and it is a place where many welcome ambiguity to avoid the heavy weight of Jesus's impending judgment, but answering a few questions might clear some things up for those of us who like to make an effort to live more clearly in truth.
    1. If someone dies in rejection of the Catholic faith, is it possible for them to be saved?
    2. If someone rejects Jesus's words, can they be saved?
    3. If someone rejects that Jesus is the Son of God, can they be saved?
    4. How must anyone treat the faith, if they have known of it or had it offered to them to be saved and what is sufficient for something to be an offer of salvation when the internet makes the faith available to so many today?
    5. How do we incorporate Jesus's teachings of brushing the dirt of one's feet off against them that reject the word, yet also that he did not come to condemn?
    6. How do we interpret that we must be born of water and the Spirit to enter the Kingdom of God?
    7. If anyone sins and is not formally forgiven, and so their sins are retained, can they be saved?
Basically I would like to hear more and with all of the strong New Testament verses involved, please. Maybe this can be done in writing somehow. I know that I'm asking a lot but salvation is the big deal for us. Just to be sure, what you have said is great, but I find it insufficient in this short video format to address the problem as completely as I would like. Thank you again.

You are looking at just one tree in the forest. Eternal reward for commitment to a particular faith, or eternal damnation for having no such commitment? Avaible to everybody capable of believing, can not be disproven (nor proven), paints us out as creatures BORN with sin, meaning the we ought to be compelled to indoctrinate even or innocent children. Chalks up all miracles that save people as acts of God, while all non-miracles are reduced to "God works in mysterious ways".
This is a brilliantly designed system to exploit the fear of death. You propose to somebody superstitious that they are gambling with their eternal happiness, and that their child will be doing the same thing.

Barron thinks he is more merciful than God. God says you must be baptized to be saved (John 3:5). That alone refutes invincible ignorance for those who have never heard the gospel because the fact that they are unbaptized alone means they are not saved. Here is the key point, God will ensure that His sheep enter His Catholic Church before the end of their lives. He will ensure that the good willed souls get baptized and believe to the fullest and thus be saved.
John 3:5 "Amen, amen I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."
John 10:16 "And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd."
Mark 16:16 "He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be condemned."
Pope Leo XIII, Satis Cognitum (# 9), June 29, 1896: “The practice of the Church has always been the same, as is shown by the unanimous teaching of the Fathers, who were wont to hold as outside Catholic communion, and alien to the Church, whoever would recede in the least degree from any point of doctrine proposed by her authoritative Magisterium.”
Notice how Pope Leo XIII teaches the "we're right, they're wrong" position that Barron mocks and rejects.

Bishop Barron, correct me if I am wrong. I think it all begins with defining what is the proper concept of salvation. The general populace concept of salvation is freedom from material suffering and misery, their consciousness is centered in "I", I, Me, Mine. I want to be save. They are not eye specialist but "I" specialist. They are selfish, narcissistic, their subjective objective of love is their self. There is no relationship. For me, the real concept of salvation is not freedom from suffering but freedom to love the Supreme lovable God (meaning of Supreme is there is no higher than Him) whatever the circumstances and conditions of life. It is real love, it is real relationship, it is the relationship of the lover and the beloved. And the reciprocation of love that transcends us into the material misconception of life. Again Bishop, kindly correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

I know we don't have to believe in saints or NDE but I do find some comfort that everyone has experiences when dead for few minutes or more that seem to be the same no matter how they were brought up. Jewish children and adults see people they loved, angels, feel a love they can't replicate on earth. Some are taught lessons by seeing sins. God is perfect, we aren't, God isn't human with a human brain and he'll judge fairly. This "we are it" mentality to others who weren't exposed to the same upbringing or who had awful experiences with Christianity make God into a human dictator who sees black and white. The bible is real but so much isn't there too, so many conversations, so many stories. You will know them hopefully one day. We can only pray and keep trying to be good followers.

Vatican II is NOT an infallible document. While it reaffirms many of the older teachings of our Faith, it also provides some random ecumenical commentary such as you quoted around 5:05 which make this document PROBLEMATIC for Faithful Catholics. Can't you see the contradiction, your Excellency? This will remain the reason while their has been a split in the Church since this was published. Either it should be thrown out altogether and a new Council formed or selective (ambiguous) parts of Vatican 2 must be corrected with details that match past dogmatic teachings. I do NOT believe, nor will I ever believe, that one who practices a demonic Hindu religion or practices the heresy of Islam which denies Christ's divinity will achieve salvation. I don't understand why this confusion was ever allowed into our Church.

This makes no sense to me. I'm a new Catholic and I came into the Catholic Church because I understood it to be true. I believe in God when before I didn't. However, before I believed I still followed my conscience choosing right over wrong. I didn't break laws or hurt people. I spend my whole adult life trying to help people. From what I understand, you say I would have gone to heaven even had I not converted or believed what the Church teaches? If that's true, then why even bother?
I was made to understand (in RCIA) that unless I get baptized (if possible), eat the body and drink the blood of Christ in the Eucharist, and Confess regularly, that I would end up in Hell. Only we Catholics do this. I want to avoid hell which is why I converted.
I just don't understand. I guess I'm just not grasping what you're saying correctly. This is the second time I've heard you say that non-believers can go to heaven. This seems to be a dilemma with what I've been taught in the church so far. Sort of a paradox.

Non-believers can in principle be saved. The Church is not saying it's easy, but it's possible, through the sincere following of one's conscience. None of this conduces toward the relativism you're worried about however. The fullness of salvation and the surest path to salvation are on offer in the Catholic Church, and therefore by all means remain in the Church! For the details, take a look at the Vatican II document Lumen Gentium.

Bishop, why does then Jesus say he is the only way to the Father? Why can we not be as direct as Jesus or the apostles?
To the brother who asked the question, please read the following in Galtians 1
      "
4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
      "

If you are a good person, that is more than enough rather than listening to any church or the men who created these rules in the name of God. A God with unconditional love wont have a condition that you should be baptized, its as simple as that. Catholics\Christianity in general do not really have any concepts of their own. All stolen from older Greek, Hindu and pagan mythologies , Trinity, hell to name a few. Just peace out and live your life as an experience than live in fear of hell after death. Cheers.

Alex, appreciate your views, its your choice and your way of seeing penal substitution. This is the core doctrine of Christianity and this is just absurd. I was a Catholic for over 30 years believing in all these stories. You can either consider that as Jesus' sacrifice for your sins which you are born with (original sin) or an absurd doctrine created by men using a noble man's brutal death. The real reason Jesus carried the cross was because of his blasphemous teachings at that time.
With regards to hellfire, prove it. Don't believe everything people say to spread a propaganda of their own. It is about time to be a heresey of Christianity.

You are right, Bishop Barron. "The fullness of life that God wants for his people, is indeed on offer only in Jesus." But somewhere else you said (from my memory) that the Catholic Church is only a preferred way. Are you contradict yourself by going from 'only in Jesus' to prefer way? Don't forget that the Catholic Church is Jesus mystical body.

If someone knew that the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus and that He wanted all of his followers to be united to it, and they said, “You know, I’m just not going to do that. I know Jesus wants me to do it, I know that he prayed for Christian unity on the night of the Last Supper, I know that’s a high on his priority list, but I’m just not going to do that,” well, then you’d have to question whether that person actually has a saving relationship with God, because he’s turning his back on something that’s fundamental and very important to Jesus, and therefore it looks, at least from outward appearances, like he’s cutting himself off from the means of grace that Jesus gave us. And so that person would be in spiritual jeopardy.

CCC 847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church: Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.

To my friend who wrote below from sensus fidelium... As is unfortunately the case your literal ISM blind you to cry Stone teaching and the church's traditional teaching from nicaea to Augustine to Aquinas to John Paul II... Surely you do not think that we all have an exact understanding of the fullness of Christ even if we believe and egg knowledge that Christ is the son of God and is the path by which we are granted salvation by inheritance... Check back with Matthew 25 if you're confused... He wasn't writing to Christians he was writing to fuse and check the Sermon on the Mount not everyone who says Lord Lord will enter the kingdom we can gain The Inheritance offered us by doing Faithfully The Works of Mercy listed in Matthew 25 because Cardinal Newman is correct a well-formed conscience is the Aboriginal Christian... With open arms we draw others into the fullness of Faith which no human being possesses himself except for the Virgin Mary so politely get off your high horse and teach the doctrine so that the world might be saved as Christ instructed us to go out preach and baptize which would be pretty difficult if you go out with your sledgehammer and your misinterpretation of the church fathers and Augustine is a wonderful example because at what point? And do you or I have the fullness of the faith or are you slipping into Sola fides?? Get out of your trap and be a true Catholic Christian and evangelize with love and mercy... God bless you

As a former Roman Catholic, now reformed protestant, it has been eye opening to see Catholic doctrine discussed by sincere Catholics on Pints w Aquinas and now this video. The protestant point of view would be that no one will be saved except those that hear the Gospel of Christ, repent from their sins, and put their faith in the saving work of Christ death on the cross. This is based on Romans 10:13 among many other verses. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:14-15 goes on to say "How, then can they call on the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" As far as a person who has not heard the gospel but has a desire to please God through the revelation of nature and his own good conscience, I believe the Apostle Paul makes it perfectly clear when he states in Romans 3:10-18. As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one: there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless: there is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths full of cursing and bitterness." "Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know." "There is no fear of God before their eyes."
In Jesus time, the Jews put their traditions ahead of the Law and the Prophets, which were given through divine revelation. Jesus said "you have heard it said, but it is written" to show them God's true will. The Talmud was their extra-biblical text by which they tried to make detailed rules about following the Mosaic law. It led them further from God's will. Many protestants believe Catholics hold their traditions in higher regard than the clear teaching of the Bible. I would not want to follow the practices which Jesus rebuked. I am not trying to insult anybody. I am just sharing my point of view.

Well said sir. I agree whole heartedly because I feel many justify their sin or other's sin by compromising truth. Truth has one meaning, their is no compromise. I think everybody just wants to be nice. I eould argue what is nice about lying, whether on purpose or by ignorance. I know I commit that sin of wanting to be nice in order to not create further tension everyday, but it is still lying... it is truly a massive struggle.

How many people, especially Catholics now have well formed consciences? And rays of light in pagan religions? Shouldn't se still be evangelizing Hindus, Buddihists, Moslems, instead of inviting them to the Vatican? Sorry Bishop Barron, and respectfully would rather listen to Bishop Sheens views and speeches rather than yours. We're talking about saving souls here not acknowledging Hindu gods and goddesses, but rather bringing them into the fullness of our faith.

His Excellency might seem all conservative or even "traditional" to some...but his theology is waaay off. He is a Vatican II MODERNIST and some of his views, especially on salvation, I find appalling and scandalous. If the Pope himself is confused and teaching heresy, what can we expect from the bishops? NO ONE IS SAVED OUTSIDE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH! This is an UNCHANGEABLE DOGMA of the Catholic Faith. So, a good-willed Jew, Mohammedan or atheist who sincerely searches for the Truth will be blessed with at least one moment of grace by God to CONVERT to the Catholic Faith and that moment can even be just before death. If they accept that grace and REPENT and BELIEVE in CHRIST, then they will be saved...but at this point they are no longer outside, but inside the Church. There is no "privileged way"...there is only ONE WAY. He is actually doing non-Catholics a great disservice and putting there souls in grave danger by leading them on to believe that they can saved "as they are" and that there is no urgent need to convert. This erroneous mentality is what has almost all but destroyed Catholic missionary work...because, what's the point? Reject MODERNISM and FOLLOW CHRIST! "Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost...He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be condemned." Let us PRAY for the enlightenment and conversion of all confused Catholics! Amen +

God gives us natural reason and in it knowing right and wrong. I think God alone knows someone's heart and IF a person were presented Christ would they still follow? It's why Judgment is God's alone. I can follow what you're saying (and hence the Church). It makes sense to me.

    Titus3:5
He saved us, not by the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
    Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
    Philippians 3:9
and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith.
    Romans1:17
For the gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish, just as it is written: “ The righteous will live by faith.”
    Romans 4:5
But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
    Romans 4:6
And David speaks likewise of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
    Romans 5:1
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
    Romans 5:9
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him…
    Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    Romans8:1
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus
    Romans 8:39
nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
    John3:15-17
that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.…
    John6:47
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.
    colossians1:20
and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood of His cross.
    psalm103:10
He has not dealt with us according to our sins or repaid us according to our iniquities.
    psalm 103:12
As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
    2 corrin 5:19
For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.

    • @Eserr7856

Death and die mean the same thing in Christianity, it is the separation of the soul from the body. To be reborn occurs at baptism, when we are spiritually united to the Holy Trinity.

No. Rays of light save no one. It is through and by the RIGHTEOUSNESS of Christ alone that God can justify saving a sinner. Our sin is imputed to Christ, His righteousness imputed to us: Double Imputation. By faith alone in Christ alone. John 14:6, Romans 10:9, Ephesians 2:8-9. Blessings

peter taught the message of the circumcision to early Israel converts, not the mystery message revealed to Paul after acts 9 peters gospel was prophesied , pauls was kept secret , peters for Israel only until acts 10! Pauls both jew and gentile now in the body of christ whosoever will believe 1 corin 15:1-4 grace apart from ourselves!
    Matthew10:5-6
These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
    Matthew 15:24
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
    Romans15:8
Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:
    James1:1
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
the body of Christ mystery message given to paul only
    rom 16 :25-26
Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations
    Galatians1:11-12
But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
    Galatians 1:17
Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
so from the time of ascension of christ in early acts to 3 years after Sauls conversion in acts 9 , in this time what message was peter James and the others preaching if the mystery message hadn't been revealed to them yet,????
    answer=
    gal 2 :7-9 (kjv)
But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

He stopped reading to protect catholic apostasy. In the Word of God 16 verses later than the one this man quoted, Acts 2: 37-38. Peter was asked " What do we do to be saved." Peter answered " Repent and be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of The Holy Ghost. " Catholics baptize most without repentance, do not baptize in the Name of Jesus Christ and therefore because of this disobedience are not entitled to the gift of the Holy Ghost.

1I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom: 2Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine. 3For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: 4And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. 5But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry. Be sober.

triumphalism IS evangelism. Barron discounts the idea of original sin, which is not a Catholic perspective. The conscience is flawed as humanity is inherently evil and tainted by original sin. If it were not, the vast majority of atheist's would not hold an entirely consent-based moral framework. Trusting our conscience over trusting Saint Peter is worshipping man over God, something Barron and the rest of the Novus Ordo crowd is quite familiar with. Ecumenism is more important to the Novus Ordo than following Christ's teachings. The sedevacantists are right.
