"Creativity is nothing more than problem solving" Having this mindset I finally made my first youtube video that I am satisfied with to upload. Thanks Jake, love your style as always and thanks for your work!
Thanks so much! And congrats on the video!! 🙌🙌
"Constraints breed ceativity" - that is very true. I love being creative, but the endlessness of it can be a bit overwhelming at times.
It's amazing what you can create from almost nothing when you put your mind to it. Sometimes being out and about is almost like a distraction because there's so many possibilities, but when we're just at home/in one place we're stretched creatively.
totally agree!
This was a 360-behind-the-back-under-the-leg-through-the-camera-bag-strap slam dunk. Such a fun mix of story, tutorial, life advice, and feel good content.
Hahaha you're the man. Thanks a ton Shaffer 🤘
Totally agree Jake! Constraints force one to think outside of the box for more innovative ideas. Bought the new presets and I'm loving them!
“Still stoked 👍🏻” 🤣
Loved it man! I’m so terrible about getting self portraits because I’m always behind the camera. I think I’ll borrow your approach and see what I get 📸
Haha I feel you man! I'm sure we'll be glad to have a few self portraits in the future tho 🤘🙌
Thank you so much dude!!! I’m a fellow person who lives in Colorado. I’ve watched your videos for years now, and you’ve inspired me to change my life. Making videos, and doing photography has been my love since I was accidentally place into a photography class my freshman year in high school. I wanted to be a photographer so bad as a kid, my family supported me on this dream until I became an adult. After that I was told to get a real job, and that photography was never an option for a career, and it was drilled into me that the more I messed with cameras the more I was just waisting my life. I got job as a photojournalist, but after that job ended the pressure from my family to conform to the daily grind slowly eroded my passion for photography. I got married had a kid, and slowly became miserable with trying to conform to the life I was told I had to live. My wife has always pushed me to follow my passion, but I kept feeling like I was too old, and that one day if I just pushed myself hard enough I would find a job, that at the very least I could find some form of contentment with. Between my wife constantly encouraging me to pursue my love for cameras, and your videos being a constant pull on the creativity in my heart, at 26 I finally rediscovered my passion all over again last year. I’ve worked like never before on my dreams, created this UA-cam channel, and I posted my first video today. I have a lot of camera equipment coming in the mail, and I hope with it I can make a career out of this, and be another success story like you, so I can be an example to younger generations that you don’t have to give up on your dreams like I did, when I became an adult.
My UA-cam photo is me standing awkwardly in an ugly field with some sort of crop behind me, struggling to be in focus whilst I have a remote shutter in hand.
I'd do it all again though because it's fun times haha
Hahaha yes!! That's the good stuff
Alright, Jake, I am in my 50's and usually, I don't comment very often on channels. I became a subscriber with the video you made about Matti. It was incredibly clever and honest, I love watching young people like you just laying it out there and not looking back, also taking chances, and pushing through the tough times. One of my favorite books is the Alchemist by Paolo Coehelo there is a quote that says" it is the possibilities of having your dream come true that makes life interesting" so keep at it. It is a wonderful thing. May you have the time of your life while you travel this world because there are no do-overs once we reach the end.
Brazil here, and bro, you’re awesome, thanks for the valuable content and the quality you always experience!
You're awesome!! Thanks so much!
"Constraints breed creativity" - Very true, and great thing to go by when you don't have much equipment in the first place. Awesome video Jake.
This is true. I'm glad I'm not alone when it comes to being overwhelmed by my own creativity.
Always waiting for your new video, thanks for share
Bro I love how you managed to make a banger video about taking some basic photos. Just proves that all you need is creativity.
Thanks so much Sean! I'm super glad to hear it!
as a fellow photographer and creative, i have definitely used that saying a lot, " through constriction, comes creativity" along with the "happy accidents", they seem to go hand in hand sometimes. I really love your work, Jake, keep it up man!
Yes! You are one of my favorite, most likable UA-camrs. The floundering comment put a smile on my face. Anytime I try to take a selfie I feel kind of like a fraud. Floundering encapsulates the way I feel every time and knowing other people feel that way too makes me feel less like a flounder and more like taking a selfie. But even with my small channel and Instagram people seem to really appreciate.
yes finally new video from jake frew ..... i like it
love the opening scene. Such a good flow! also #stillcompany vibe
You know a good beanie when you see one 😂🤘 thanks so much!
Jake, I know this will sound like a stupid question. What are you using to get the shots? Are you using a remote and we don't see your hand, or are you setting the timer? Maybe you are using the Canon app? Any advice to get the shot would be awesome! Love all that you do. Miss the "Dialed" videos. Maybe an update video as a check in?
I am working on creating a series of short films this month and at first I was feeling super overwhelmed when I realized they could be ANYTHING. But by limiting myself to one camera, reducing the amount of locations, making them a certain length, and not overthinking every shot...it started making getting started and creating easier! Great video!
So good!! Inspiring. When channels get so big with so many subscribers they seem to change and become painfully commercial and flashy. It's hard to relate. Wishing you the greatest success . Thank you for your humble authenticity. 👊😎
When Jake Frew creates his own lightroom presents!!!! 😍
🙌 ah thanks so much Joy!
I enjoy your videos, I was hearing about you going out your comfort zone, taking pictures in your van to be more creative and i thought my lack of health always push me out to create solutions, I never had a comfort zone, my crazy videos show it 😅
Gonna try this myself this week, goal set 👌
Ah that's awesome!!
So good! I really liked the ones when you're sitting with the back light. They look so good! Such bangers! And I totally do my portraits at Golden hour too and need to get those creative juices flowing!
Thanks so much Kara!! 🙏
@@JakeFrew you're welcome bro!
Dude your filmmaking is incredible! I’m road tripping out west camping in my 4Runner and learning a ton from your videos! Would be awesome to run into ya one day on the road, take care man!
Thanks so much, glad to hear it!! Hell ya, enjoy your travels!
I just really need to dig in and get my channel going! Thanks man, your videos are always inspiring!
I just love this video. Nice self portraits.. 🙂
Thank you Gina!! 🙏
Thank you sir. You are the fuel of my fire.
That part at the beginning with the stove was so well done, brilliant storytelling and way to set up the topic of the video! 🤩
This actually just gave me motivation to take some self-portraits at home. I rarely see it as an option because every single room is so cramped, but I could actually surprise myself if I just cut with this demoralizing internal dialogue and just went for it! Amazing video, once again, Jake. I always get that spark of inspiration with your videos, it's incredible, thank you for creating, lots of love
You look like Ken Burns, so you've already got a head start on having a great career in film!
Thanks for these tips!
Love your video today, love from Huntington Beach.
All in good time! You’ve changed my life all in good time and I can’t wait to keep seeing your creativity
Wow! An awesome message presented in a concise and creative way. Love it!
I still remember when I watched your first video when you unboxing an electric skateboard. during that time u have 1k subscribers. keep move brother, from Malaysia with love.
I just took some self portraits and yes if you keep it simple and stay within a certain boundary it will make the pictures DOPE
Hey Jake, awesome video man! Thanks for this, it definitely gave me some different ideas for a different project/vlog I am working on! Definitely, the computer shots of you towards the end are excellent! Peace!
Thanks so much!! Super glad it sparked some ideas!
constrainst breed creativity - couldnt agree more
Love this my friend ❤️ thankyou for sharing 🙏
Love and respect from Romania 🇷🇴❤️❤️
Appreciating you! The insight, inspiration and motivation i get from your videos... love your realness, creativity and film making 😊🤙
The fact you used a cork remover to light your burner deserved a likr
"Considering how much I film myself, I have barely any photos of myself" so relatable
I need this 😄
Thanks for the great reminder that sometimes we just need to flex our creative muscles to produce what we love. Love the content, keep it up!
YES YES YES you look happy and i always wait for new video

My Man! Those shots in the van have much more of a story to them I think that's why they speak to me personally anyway. Not to mention they have bagger lighting!

I love your presets, they are amazing! 12 out of 10!

Idk why but your videos gives new breath !!!
Best complement ever 😭 thanks so much!
2 questions: 1. What happened to the desktop PC. 2. Can you make a detailed video about your electrical setup, how did you choose the converter, calculated the battery capacity you need, and size and wattage of the solar ?
Good luck
Ok but this editing just adds to your whole creative process. Super well done. Bravo 👏🏽
Thanks Nicole!! I really appreciate it!
exactly what i thought...it was reaaally good
Thumbs up, then off to try something with a limited location. Super appreciated the inspiration
Yes!! Stoked to hear that, have fun!

Dude absolutely love your stuff, I'm freaking hooked.
Thanks so much!! That means a lot!
Constraints/limitations bring out some cool ideas! Great shots Jake, thanks for the inspiration!
I recently took some self portraits too!! I love the way the ones you took while sitting in the front seat turned out. Awesome lighting
That's awesome!! Thanks so much Chloe! 🙌
Shooting in small spaces with limited light. Super creative shots indeed!
Thank you Coreen!! 🙏
Just what I needed! Thanks man 🤟
you should do a self portrait while making a video, just have a timer going, you smile a lot and it would make a preem shot to post or just have for yourself to remind you more about how much you love to do what you do.
Cool good and inspiring that you keep challenging yourself!! A good example that you shouldn't get lazy and get stuck in the same things. New ways provide new insights.✨
Love from Tanzania 🇹🇿
🖤🖤
Your videos always calm me down thank you❤️
Sweet and short 👍👍
Hey! What tripod do you use or would recommend for a more light weight one that you would carry around with you everywhere?
New to the channel last week. Have watched almost all your back catalogue of videos and I have to say, I'm absolutely loving your content. Music is dope, scenery is dope, and you sir are awesome! I love the message message are sending out! Keep doing you dude! G
Ah that's awesome! Thanks so much for the kind words and for sticking around!! 🙏🙏
Love this. I’m so critical of every photo of myself that I find it hard to take self portraits 🙈
Awesome vid. Keep em coming.
I'm new to your channel and I want to thank you for the inspiration and the motivation to find creative solutions Jake!
So beautiful
I have moments so often where I just feel like I want to create something but then get overwhelmed with the number of options. Creating a few self-imposed constraints might enable me to create quicker and learn something new! Thanks for the video, been going on a bit of a Frew being this morning 🔆
Gosh I feel that way soo often, you're not alone! Thanks so much Madi! 🙏
I love putting myself in situations to make alternative sollutions to my usual stuff
That's awesome! Such a great practice!
Jason, I loved the color grading on this video
Love this, can totally relate my dude!

Haha thanks so much!! 🙏🙏
3:34 brilliant video to screen switch-a-roo with the sound there.
I really like the snowboard shots ;-)
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I'm such an "inside the box" thinker that I really struggle when it comes to creativity. Hopefully this will help me look at the possibilities.
You were superbly creative on this. All the shots turned out well and I love it! Awesome vid
Your videos breed inspiration 💙
Thats awesome 👏
