Oh my God!!! This is my time machine!! I remember watching at least a 1000 times as a kid. I think my parents threw the tape away and played dumb like they didn't know where it went.
It's pretty neat seeing Golden Book Video doing something serious, compared to their usual kiddie fare (like the Little Golden Book classics, Richard Scarry, Mercer Mayer, Sesame Street, etc.)
What's interesting about this Golden Book Video title is how it uses the classic Disney/Hanna-Barbera "Castle Thunder" sound effect (albeit slowed down), at 1:25 and 8:11, but only in this video (maybe because the original "He-Man" series used it?) Most other times there was thunder and lightning in the Golden Book Videos, they used the Valentino/"Count von Count" thunderclap (like at 7:12, 10:54, 13:45 and 19:29.)
Thanks for posting this! I love all MOTU, but the pre-Orko/Cringer is SO much better than the cartoon! Why haven't they made another (better I hope) movie? "He-Man" should be the top choice of 80's retro Heroes!
I know it says "Universal Recording Corp." in the credits but this tape does NOT have the bumpers on it. It does have the outer space logo, however, which also appears on "Herbert the Timid Dragon and Other Mercer Mayer Stories" and "The Gingerbread Man and Other Nursery Stories."
I see. I never saw this one when I was little for some reason. And because the Mercer Mayer one had Studio Consultants, Inc. instead of Universal Recording Corp. the bumpers were not included on that one either.
@@BKDBrian2 I don't think it really had anything to do with the audio production; most likely the Mercer Mayer one was produced later than the earlier titles with the bumpers. I don't know the exact production order, because I imagine many titles were released on the same day in fall 1985, no matter when they were produced. (This included the "Sesame Street" ones, no doubt to tie into "Follow That Bird.")
The cover art for some of them like 'The Trap' are clearly different in style than the Earl Norme, ones but yet no signatures appear on those that are my favorites. I like them all, but fans need to find out who did those unsigned covers!
Thank you so much for recommending this to me! It's like drugs without dying and stuff! I have a few storybook records/tapes of MOTU if you want me to help you with your collections if needed. "Power of Pointe Dread/"Danger at Castle Grayskull" is lost for now. :( it would be a pretty big file, but I'd try to find more storybook records/tapes).
@Zak Wolf Wikipedia says that Don Messick voiced He-Man here, but I am not sure, and when I watched your video about the usage of Hanna-Barbera Productions, Incorporated sound effects in Golden Book Videos (uploaded in September 2013), I found one UA-camr's comment saying that the actor voicing Skeletor here did a terrible job.
B. Anthony Gibson yes I have seen this when I was a kid at one time I didn't see it for a long time and I was praying that God would bless me to have it again and he did
wow. it's like HD too. I wish Hollywood would quit making excuses not to make movies. At this point they just really need to make something. I know they wanted to get it right but they obviously cant and they cant move forward. Idiots. Just make something already.
I did not get the appeal of he man. That’s why from time to time check this out so I may understand. The music in this one is cool though. But I was more into the way of the sciences and so on. I couldn’t understand the weird powers of these people and what’s special about battlecat when we had already tanks that could flatten the cat. I liked tanks, and scientific powers... that was cool.
This is not good for children. It teaches them magical thinking. Rather children should learn to bend reality with science. Learn how stuff works and then make it work as you want it. That would be a better message. And also a message of strict discipline and perseverance despite bad odds. That would also serve children better. So they learn not to give up.

My copy got worn out.
That’s mean...
My best girlfriend got this for me for my 7th birthday. Been looking for this for YEARD
same here!
Same here! Every morning before school.
The narrator has done an excellent job of imitating the Filmation style of voices spot on.
This really takes me back. I grew up with these!!! THANK YOU!!!
used to watch these at my grandmas when I was a kid
this brings me back to my childhood
I had these tapes when I was a kid. It was a decent backup in case the actual cartoons were checked out of Movies To Go/Blockbuster at the time.
Still better than Kevin Smith's debacle.
Damn right!
Wait, what was wrong with the Kevin Smith series?
Remember to beat the Non church of Christ
Yeah the Kevin Smith MOTU is good lot of all back to the Original and the Movie. Only thing is the here is a lot of woke agenda in it
It's pretty neat seeing Golden Book Video doing something serious, compared to their usual kiddie fare (like the Little Golden Book classics, Richard Scarry, Mercer Mayer, Sesame Street, etc.)
I HAD this VHS, it use to scare the shit outta me
I know what you mean. It’s a darker take.

I had this video back in the day! Ah, the nostalgia!
I have zero memories of the actual He Man cartoon from tv, this VHS is what I remember.
I know it says "Universal Recording Corp." in the credits but this tape does NOT have the bumpers on it. It does have the outer space logo, however, which also appears on "Herbert the Timid Dragon and Other Mercer Mayer Stories" and "The Gingerbread Man and Other Nursery Stories."
probably because this was a more serious video than the titles that had the bumpers with the little girl.

its too bad these are not on the dvds as bonus features
Thank The lords of filmation the dialog was so way more professional on the show

watching this was like getting a needle of nostalgia injected into me.

I had a VHS of two of these stories.
I had this when I was in the 3rd grade
Does anyone have any Golden Book VHS's of Princess of Power?
25:50 "Well, at least the space logo already appeared in the middle of the video."
Anyone know where I can get the music isolated from this video?
I remember this I has the He-Man and the Golden Books stories She-Ra one.
Haha... the fish man speaks like the reptile from enemy mine...
Fish man... funny...
Mer Man
@@evilwayne6444 ah... so MerMan it is...
It's pretty obvious here that Orko is voiced by a woman, unlike in the actual show where Lou Scheimer did his voice.
zack wolf i like the 1983 okro voice in the cartoon better

@@omanimoves6312 I know Merman sounds kind of like Don Messick.
@@omanimoves6312 He Manin the cartoon voice by John Erwin.
I just saw Jim Bousman on the credits.
Thanks for sharing this! I used to have this video when I was a kid. Haven't seen this in over 30 years!

I did too, back in 1985.
They should have used Alan Oppenheimer for skeletor and John Erwin for heman

so pathetic she says Man at arms when in the entire show she calls him father
This was from before they wrote them to be related. These stories pre-date the cartoon series.
