- While pruning this year (2023) I noticed my Darlow's Enigma had a lot of old canes along with new ones. So I decided to take out all the old ones to make room for the new. This video tells you, and shows you, what I did.
I do the same on my roses that have thick bark and the big canes are turning brown. I use a battery chain saw for the thick canes. Thanks for the tips.
thank you! i’m always afraid to cut to much!
You're welcome
Wow! That’s amazing! I just planted this same rose last year against our shed. Is this a climbing rose?
In some climates it is, mainly warmer ones. For me it's a tall shrub.
@@Paulzimmermanroses well shoot, any climbers you’d recommend for the north side of a shed?
@@Sunshine-xt1vb Where do you live? Does it get any sun there?
@@Paulzimmermanroses Maybe a couple hours in the evening but I have noticed it gets more sun in the summer vs winter. I got Darlow because reviews said the smell was intoxicating and it was a rambler that gets 10x10. I’ve contemplated putting the pilgrim (DA) there but I don’t think that it would thrive.

Thank you for sharing. I have some roses over twenty five years old. I need to do the same thing. Blessings to you and your family 🙏
With a rose that old go slow. Maybe take out one or two and wait to see new growth. Then take out others over time.
