- Come take a break and check out a video overview of Canon's small but capable PowerShot A1000IS, a fantastic little 10 megapixel point and shoot digital camera released in 2008. This camera feels very fun to use, and packs a lot of useful features, my favourite among them all being the picture control. I'll share my impressions about the shooting experience and how this camera feels in the hand toward the end of the video.
This information is intended for casual photographers interested in vintage point and shoot digital cameras.

Not gonna lie, there's not even a single video on yt which can compete with the level nd dedication with which you've compared with a lot of cameras
I really appreciate you spending time with the channel and dropping by to leave this comment. It's curiosity that drove me to make these videos, and curiosity that connects them with similarly interested people like you. Happy shooting!
@dancrowderphotography8123 Exactly 🤗🌺
I bought this camera when it first came out and I still use it. Works just as good as the day I got it
I think that's why these cameras are coming back into popularity. As long as they're in good shape and the storage format isn't too old or outdated, these point and shoots still work just fine.
my dad bought it when it came out and it was our family travel cam. recently converted it to infrared. it's so much fun.
Love these old cameras 👍
Me, too, because they've all got a little bit of flavor setting them apart from the cell-phone camera experience.
this was such a great and educational video! i ordered one after seeing this. thank you!
Really glad the video helped you make your decision. Hope you've been enjoying your new camera!
Epic intro with the sev cameras.
Gotta come out grabbing the attention!
The Kodak and Olympus pics were especially awesome IMO.
Thanks! Crazy that these old digital cameras can still impress!
I have mine but the battery lid is loose... Now i want to see for the spare parts
Glad you got yours. For the meantime, a little bit of tape would probably help until you get your spare parts :) Happy shooting!
Hi , what is the video resolution on this camara ?
The manual tells me it's 640 x 480. Hope that helps!
The 3:33 pic is fantastic.
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching and taking the time to write!
Would you recommend this camera or the sony cybershot dsc w5 for photos and videos too?
Great video. It's helping me in my selection process for a vintage digicam :)
I'd go with the A1000IS - it's got the W5 beat in just about every aspect - twice the MP, takes a standard SD card, longer lens, and a slimmer profile. But the W5 just might take nicer photos with that Zeiss lens.
Thank you so much! I hope you'll let us know what you choose!
i have this camera but i keep on having battery issues :( i use disposable batteries but the last time i tried to use it it kept saying that i need to change the batteries even though the ones that i used were brand new..
do you recommend using other batteries or could it be something wrong in the camera itself?
Have you tried using the more expensive Lithium batteries? I use them quite often, and they have a much longer life. Maybe that would help.
@@dancrowderphotography8123 I also have issue with the disposal batteries, have any recommendations on what batteries to use??
Does it read sd memory cards of 64gb?
The manual says SD and SDHC (up to 32GB) are supported. A 64GB memory card would be SDXC format, which is not supported by the camera. Good luck!
I have the same camera but the pictures are always overexposed. Cannot shoot outside in day light everything becomes white. I have tried the lowest exposure compensation and kept the iso at 80 still it does the same. Can you help me out?
There are two other things I can think of to try to fight that. I'm not sure if you're using P mode, either. First, I'd try changing the metering mode to spot, or event center weighted spot - which I believe would make the sensor read less of what it sees, so less averaging the exposure. I'd also try using AEL, auto-exposure lock, by pointing the camera at something bright, holding the shutter halfway, pressing up (the iso button) on the button dial, and then pointing the camera at what you want to shoot. Maybe, that feature could make the camera turn down exposure to compensate for the bright object, and then once locked, the camera would not try to pump up exposure on your normal scene. Here's a bitly link to Canon's pdf of the manual, in case you want to read on those features. I hope you figure it out, and it's not a broken camera, and I'm looking forward to hearing back from you about how it goes.
Maybe the aperture is sticking at wide open. I had a dslr kit lens that did that. I could only get good exposures by using aperture priority & the camera would choose the shutter speed.
