Despite your dilemma at this time your fishroom is absolutely inspiring and one of the best i have seen. Good luck to you and have a joyous holiday. Keep the videos coming !
I’m really sorry you have lost some fish, it’s gutting! But thanks for keeping it real and showing that it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows when it comes to fish keeping 😊 I hope the issue is now solved! Your tanks and fish all still look amazing 😊
Thank you for sharing a hard day with us. It's honestly refreshing to see since we all go through it and sometimes we just don't have all the answers! If it was easy and without struggle, everyone would be doing it.
Aw Adrian so sorry you lost in those tanks, must be the weather for it! I had a disaster here too but my own fault 😢😢😢 but your video always cheers me up! Huge snogs for Brutus and Zig ❤ oh I have the same sea shepherd t shirt😊 all love from Scotland 🏴
I lost 100 percent of my lake Tanganyika cichlids but other fish such as Siamese algae eaters , Cory's and one old Gold tetra. It is my belief I was working in the yard and I had sun block on my arms. I ad forgotten to wash my arms when I wanted to make a couple of changes to my aquascape. With a couple of days all the Tanganyika fish were dead. I have been keeping fish since 1966. This was the worst event I experienced. Needless to say I won't stick my arms in any of my tanks unless my hands/arms are washed to remove sun block! Good luck!
I’m no bloody help with any detective work I’m scratching my head with you. Props for sharing the ups and the shitty downs, hopefully many more ups than downs.
I'm so sorry for the mass loss in your fish room. I was watching this last night and I started drifting into sleepy thoughts. I was thinking, the wildlife sounds are so cool in your area...but then I realized something...your tanks are exposed to outdoor air. I was curious so I asked ChatGPT if any spores in Australia could affect indoor aquariums and it gave me a long lengthy answer which pointed to yes and why. I think the spores may have wiped out the species that are not resilient to it, which may explain why the bonsai also got affected. Other plants in your area may be immune to it. There could be changes in your local area that may have affected your water through microscopic spores! Just a theory, but might be worth looking into!
I have had similar at the start of summer before and it is worth contacting the Waterworks department and see if they've changed anything in the water .eg added something
I'm sorry you lost fish but thank you for sharing. It's honestly nice to see everyone loses fish occasionally. Hopefully you've solved whatever went wrong!
I love your humor and the ability to learn from a horrible event with a small positive note🎉 keep going mate❤❤ I'm so sorry for your losses...water pets hurt your heart as well i was always super sad lossing a lil platy or guppy babies even neons.....i tried. To name everyone in the tank and take notes on my app they are all special to me.....and sorry about your bonzi tree I really love plants too....I've been babying a lil pink purple orchid for over a year and she is finally showing growth over here in the dead of Americas winter time... stays inside of course but we even had snow ❄️🌨️❄️❄️ yesterday.... 🎉 It's crazy😂 best wishes mate I know you will figure it out 😁
An love your beer jokes makes you human like me ❤❤❤ its been a long hard day of dog keeping and fish.keeping if you are not stressed out you crazy i groom pups. They bougie and so needy but your fish easy? I think not one measure of chance caused death you can give your pup a m$m and they won't get sick but dogs can't have chocolate.....give your finned baby the wrong thing 20 seconds they are gone.. Me personally I hand pick every finned child who comes with me home they are just like dogs or cats and I love them as such....
And I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart.i hope it's one big boy and some fine lasses..... I'm projecting to the greatest of creators that your guys blossom back again 😊
Also I know I'm crazy 4 comments in but I really need to wait until the end but can't help my self I wish the old man would let me count my beers like that lol 😂
So sorry for your loss of fish and all of the extra work involved. Your set up is interesting how everything flows. I am wondering if aphids come to the inside plants because of the cold. You are a busy man. Everything looks beautiful. Hello Ziggy.
Love to meet your dad in a video sometime. I often hear you mention him when contemplating stuff. I’m sure he’s a wealth of knowledge. Sorry to hear about the fish
Sorry about your fish. I have used pothos in my fish tanks too for 13 years now, two walls and the entire ceiling in my living room is filled lol. But my pothos has killed fish for me a few times, because pothos have a poison. And I have had problem when leaves are forming under the water. And I can see that you have pothos leaves under the water in many tanks. Usually there is no problem, but if just a tiny piece of a leaf goes bad they can create a huge problem in that tank. Specially shrimps are sensitive to this. Im not saying that this is the reason for your problems, but check all the pothos leaves that are under water and see if they are ok. I always cut off all underwater leaves nowadays to prevent problems
@@BadlydrawnBen Yes I have had an underwater leaf turning yellow and killed hundreds of shrimp. But most of the time nothing happens. But it can happen, and its no way to know when
Sorry you lost your Tanganyikans. I've had a similar situation just days ago. Turned out to be a few cockle shells I put in a tank that kept dropping pH down to 4.5. I had them for ages, washed and brushed them. 36h later - 22 dead corys. Removed the shells, and they stank, just a tiny amount of tissue in the hinge grooves that had escaped cleaning. My opinion on yours. It sounds to me like a localised, one-off toxic event that probably started off in the upper tank before it cascaded down to the sump, being diluted along the way. Maybe that's why some fish survived. Thing is, insecticides (if any had been used) tend to be totally effective, and even small amounts are lethal. So I could be trashing my own explanation. Every parameter you tested for checked out. So it was none of the usual suspects. Neighbouring rows of tanks were unaffected. I am presuming the electrics in the tank were in order. The water flow was running, and the air wasn't completely cut off to the filters. No toxic metals, eg, Cu, Pb, Hg, Cd, Zn, Fe, As, or other substances in the tank (these often take time to act, giving you adequate warning from the fishes behaviour). So we can rule them out. Food: feeding contaminated foods that have been stored incorrectly and may have developed glycoalkaloids, these often give off a distinctive smell, so you would have noticed. Frozen shellfish have been a cause of major fish deaths; not often picked up unless you know what you are looking for. But you used Nick's Green Cuisine. Others would have been affected. These are some of the scenarios that have cropped up in my experience, but it's difficult to diagnose such incidents without examining the bodies immediately afterwards. Give the doggies a stroke from me.
Hi Adrian, love your videos. it is just a little hard to watch these videos in their entirety as the microphone makes the audio not great. consider getting a Dji mic 2 or a rode mic, I know they are expensive but I believe it would be a worthwhile investment.
Do you use a carbon block for the tap water? When was the last time you changed it if so? Time for some lady bugs in the fish room. They can be purchased locally in the U.S. don’t know if it’s the same in Australia
I've had something similar happen to me in the past with my Tanganyikans in my fish room all separate systems. I live north side of the GC. I lost a alot of my Calvus, Xenos and Shellies (mainly Occys). Almost made me leave the hobby, was shattered considering they were very rare variants. I am alot more conservative with water changes now essentially I blamed the tap water. Since doing fewer water changes I've had no more issues. I have some of your Similis still if you need any replacements.👍
Sorry to hear, never fun. About 3 years ago lost about 20-24 discus, everything else in that 120gal. And about 50%of the rest of tanks. Looks like it was columnaris bacteria. Rushed quarantine on some small fish i had received . Hope yo get to the bottom of it. Greeting from my channel in New York.
It’s the most frustrating part of the hobby, when you lose fish and you can’t figure out why. I’m sure every fish keeper has had this happen at one stage or another. Sometimes you figure it out, other times you will never know, and it doesn’t matter how much experience you have. It’s annoying but all you can do, is try your best, and accept that it is just part of fish keeping.
It is hard to loose fish for apparently no reason. The only thing you didn’t mention was temperature on those tanks. Might be something to look at. Also, not sure where you get your water, but I use city water, and they will sometimes add something to the water and it usually happens at the beginning of summer. You would think though that if it was either of these issues it would effect all the tanks. So I am inclined to suspect something else, but it might still be something to investigate. The problem points to the sump as that is your common denominator. Are the pipes common to the tanks too? Or are those pipes used by other tanks? Could there be something corroding along the pipes? You have fish and shrimp living in your sump, so that seems to rule out the sump. I would check the piping and connectors to all the tanks that were affected, especially any pipe/connector that is common to all those tanks and going out of the sump and into the tanks. I think what you did should protect those tanks, but it would be nice to know what happened. Thanks for sharing even if it was difficult. Anyone who keeps fish has been there.
If it was me I would also suspect a toxin or bacteria or even some kind of parasite possibly spread by those aphids or even a frog getting in a few fish died initially and it caused a chain reaction. I personally would flush the whole system and run a UVC on it for a few weeks and make up some medicated feed for using seachem metroplex with focus and garlic gaurd and feed them that for a week while running the uvc and extra airstones.
adrians, for your bonsai, this type of bonsai (pin / conifer) do not like water all time. ficus bonsai are well addapted for aquarium, but keep 10 cm between the higher water level and the tronc. (sorry for my english , i'm french). many thanks for your videos (maybe invest in a better sound!)
Oh mate it happens to us all I almost quit recently trouble free for years then things started going wrong. I got sick some things got neglected and my upstairs toilet started leaking into the downstairs laundry ceiling which was a big part of my fishroom long story short the day before the plumber came to put a new toilet in the fishroom ceiling collapsed and now most of it is in the tanks and tubs. Luckily most of the fish had been moved out but the mess is huge ive been moving most of my fish outside bit by bit for summer so i can get everything cleaned up and fixed but its a nightmare. I live on disabilty and have had very limited money to do things so its slow. and on top of that I had a 4 foot tank bust and an outbreak of anchorworm in my favorite nano tank no idea how they got there a plant fallen insect frog. Check for stray current too from heaters and pumps Ive had it happen I lost a bunch of fish and traced it to a pump.
I lost an entire tank of Brichardis not to long ago, I guessed around 100+ fish. 12 or so adults and 5/6 groups of fry. Well I say entire but 1 fry did survive somehow. Oh also had 2 bristle nose and a batch of 30ish fry so we'll over 100 fish lost. Like you said it's part of this hobby but definitely sucks none the less..
Oh no…so sad for you. When I had fish and, later, claw toed frogs had losses. One because an unscrupulous store owner sold me a Jack Dempsey as a community fish…he ate everything in my tank…named him fur Jack the Ripper…and once because a frog jumped out while hubby was cleaning and ruptured her organs. While I was very upset, (all the fish had names and my kids and I loved them) Jack turned out to be very intelligent and quite the character. For example, if didn’t feed him exactly on time he spit water at me. The frog was devastating. We got her before them before there was much out on them. Her injury was horrific and we didn’t replace her because it was so heartbreaking. When I moved to Delaware, USA 34 years ago I experienced my first blizzard. We’ve had almost no snow in over a decade. My father was a meteorological scientist and warned me this was coming when I was in my late teens…I’m 73. Governments knew and did nothing.
I think the reality of having ecosystem setups is it’s constantly going through cycles and changes I’m sure you know this so pests are just another aspect of an ecosystem making room for change. It opens a door for new possibilities in terms of how you want to replace the dead things since you are kinda the keystone species in this case except you are actually aware of the effect you have.
I’m dealing w/my 2yr old grt/grandson pouring a whole cichlid(sm.pellets) into their tank..got fish,rocks,monsteraout..skimming pellets(tough was deep substrate/top of UGF)..long process..tank looks like (piss tank).. my parameters now are:Amonia-2.0/nitrite-(deep purple)/nitrate-beet red..ph7.4/down from 8.2..& they were zero except nitrates..(they always high,but fish fine& let me kno when can tolerate them&I change their H2O.. seems like when I’m finished w/this mess..gotta recycle this tank😡🤬🤬&have me “A Beer”🤪🥴🫢
Sorry you lost fish/know ur chlorine is (0) but maybe had chlromine(I do in USA/notice Nick said his newest video)tanks well established /will not remove this)…also notice you have a lot cyano bac(snail shells/places in tanks..I kno some my fish can live w/it..others die w/I days once exposed..an ole keeper told me remove/burry it in sand (safe as long fish not exposed/eat it)..just a thought..
As for the fish loss mystery…. In a recent video you had concerns with termites? Any chance you treated Pesticides?? Hopefully things are on the mend. ❤️🩹

What is sunblock
Sorry you lost your fish. It's always a bitter pill to swallow.
I absolutely love watching your videos. Can't wait to see the bonsai transplant video
Sorry for the loss. Like you said, if one door closes another opens. All the best. Cheers
Great video. AB Thanks for sharing the progress your making in the fish room.

Don't worry about the mess. Most fishkeepers live in their own mess. The ones on UA-cam are just better at not showing it!

Just started the video so sorry if dumb...any kind of treatments for the termites going on near that side of the room?
Moderation is key. I traded my Adult Beverage hobby for an Aquarium hobby 30 years ago. Multiple Tank Syndrome indeed.
Also recently treated for termites..could that be a culprit??anyway can keep tank H2O separate for now(water changes/etc)

Could some of those aphids fallen in the tank and got the fish sick or choked them if they ate them?

are those fish cold for the type of fish
I hate to loose fish! Aaarrrggghhh!!! 😞
