When Octopus came to install my Smart gas meter just over a year ago I thought I'd make an impression. I hoovered out the dust and cobwebs and gave both the old meter and the enclosure a thourough clean and polish. I even used a lens cleaning cloth on the meter display. The meter guy laughed when he saw it. Thinking outside the box ( sorry ) how about repurposing the empty meter cupboard as a location for a keysafe ?
Jason Thanks for the updates. Personally i would consider leaving the gas meter installed. Just saying you are now a non revenue gas property (depending on the gas supply region, get it all in mail) Often non revenue customers are not allowed to have any part of the gas network in or adjacent their property but again get in writing as they may cut off your gas service pipe at the gas main.Where ever that is could be a distance. Were in the process of buying a newish property with air source heat pumps has 2 , all great but mrs wants a gas range but the property we both love has no gas since 2020. No problems got estimates for a new gas supply to an external meter box. Estimate cost for a new gas supply, £6k + vat not a deal breaker but seeing the smart meter read outs for leccy consumption. Sorry to say this property is going back to gas. Open to discussion. Happy new year every one ♥ ♥
That's an interesting point, but there are no gas appliances in the house. The kitchen was remodelled several years ago with all electric appliances, the lounge has a fake 'coal' fire but it's electric with a flame effect, and now that the boiler is gone, there was really no need to keep it. As I understand it, we have a year to change our minds.
In terms of heating the house and water, it did really well. I know that I shouldn't be, but I'm impressed that it was able to pull heat from such cold air... it's a bit like magic. However, it was rather noisy when working hard and that put an annoying hum through the pipework around the house.
@@johnb7644 No, the flow rate, 20L/minute, remains the same during cold spells, so it's not that. The hum was probably related to the compressor, but it's hard to tell.
@ Anyway to fix additional pipe supports maybe, So apart from the hum your satisfied and warm. I’m having new passive windows fitted this last weeks so next job a new better draught proof front door, then quotes for a heat pump 👍
Voltage surge protection would have been a nice addition to your HP D/B

Hi Jason. Did you just email Octopus to ask them to remove your meter and was it free?
@@KevinScott-y5l yeah, I just emailed them and they came a few days later and removed it, no charge.
How has the heat pump performed during the cold spells

Was that caused by a high flow rate, something to consider when I start getting quotes, Yours was a heat geek install as well

I’m wondering why the earth cable was connected across? 5:33
I think it could be that perhaps/maybe there are devices in our home earthed using the gas pipes so this is to preserve that earth connection.
Bit silly removing your boiler. Wouldn’t want your electric bills.
We'll see.
