- Bollywood's close connection with the underworld of Mumbai is an open secret. In this episode of Indianama, Tavleen Singh speaks to residents of the colony in which Gulshan Kumar was murdered. Even though five years had passed after the incident, residents are scared to even talk about it. Later we speak to Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan who says that the influence of the underworld on Bollywood has reduced significantly over the years. It was Varadarajan Mudaliar who was instrumental in getting him films despite giving 9-10 flops in a row. He entered film industry after getting his mother Teji call her friend Indira Gandhi to ask her friend Nargis to cast him. As the news spread that he has recommendation directly from the PM of the country, a lot of producers who had rejected him suddenly got interested. He was always hands in gloves with the underworld and all the film muhurats had the likes of Karim Lala, Haji Mastan, Varadarajan Mudaliar (Varda Bhai) as guests.
