Various Southern American accents are notoriously difficult to mimic. Even Americans struggle with the nuances and vowel sounds in a variety of drawls and twangs.
House isn't a movie. It is an American dramatic TV series about an extremely gifted doctor, who is also cranky, crabby and handicapped with a bad leg; who heads a department at a hospital in Princeton, New Jersey that specializes in finding medical diagnosis' in patients that have baffled other doctors. At times he sees regular patients with regular problems where his gruff humor shines through.
Kate Winslet played some great British roles like in Sense and Sensibility, The Holiday & Heavenly Creatures. She does an amazing American accent in all her American roles. Christian Bale is a great actor. I remember him from Empire of the Sun when he played a British child. One of my favorites that he was in as an American is Newsies. He did a great New York City accent. Another one that should have been mentioned is Toni Collette. She played the mom in The Sixth Sense. Her accent is outstanding! I knew she was British because I've seen her in Muriel's Wedding which I believe was the movie that put her in the spotlight. As for an American actor performing a British role. I would say Renee Zellweger who plays Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones's Diary.
HOUSE Hugh Laurie 💙🩵 I remember an episode where he “pretended” to have a British accent. I thought he was so amazing! Then later, I heard him in an interview and was wondering why he was doing his British accent. 😂
Hugh Laruei is from House, an TV series. Amazing series honestly. Not sure how it would do on UA-cam. He basically would spend every episodes trying to diagnose a new patient with something. It sounds boring in concept, but you have to see it to understand the appeal.
The one that surprised me is the lady who played on the X-Files.....I was so surprised when I heard her speak with an English accent on some talk show.
I just watched this video the other day. I knew about a lot of them but a few of them shocked me when I found out they were British. Like Andrew Lincoln from the walking dead. There are a few British people on the walking dead. One of them went to school in England so she also switches American and English.
LoL, nobody but nobody has ever listed, None but the Lonely Heart, as one of Cary Grants notable films. There's so many better ones. They missed Anthony Hopkins.
Oddly enough, English ppl have captured the Southern accent pretty well. See Vivian Leigh. The Southern accent developed from British English and Scottish/Irish immigrants.
Whenever it comes to Danial Day Lewis I’ve always thought that he’s one of the greatest actors ever. First movie of him in it was In The Name of The Father about the IRA I was hooked on his greatness Anyone who watched the walk dead should know he wasn’t American the moment he said Carl. I’ve never heard of any American say Carwl and not Carl
Heck, half of the celebs we love in America are British or from another country. It's so amazing. To be fair I've also seen some American celebs who I thought were British but weren't actually. -edit- Henry is British. See, I never knew that. lol. And same for the guy from Walking Dead.
Jason O'Mara, from Dublin, was great as supposed NYC cop in "Life On Mars" . U.S. TV series (2008-09). Cut short by poor ratings. I loved this series but was sadly bummed out by the ending. It turned out to be based not on fantasy and time travel (back to 1970s NY), but the character's dreams or such, while in 'stasis' as one of a groups of astronauts on the way to Mars. Sorry about the spoiler. The series was was based on BAFTA-winning original UK series of the same name produced by the BBC. I saw a little bit on BBC America and could not watch. it was too Brit to be able follow along.
Hugh Laurie is easily the best, mostly I believe because he focused on a character rather than an American accent. A lot just sound generically American, like a Ford Prefect effect, and don't necessarily sound wrong, but noticeably off just a bit. Matthew Rhys in The Americans had an oddly off accent, all the more conspicuous as he was meant to be a Russian spy posing as an American, so logically it should have been a plot concern. And none of the British actors in The Wire really even tried to sound like Baltimore with their American accents. But it was funny when Stringer Bell (Elba's character) was on the come up with the real estate developers, he kind of let some of the British slip out, I guess presuming that'd sound more posh in that circle of acquaintances!
LOL!! This vid jsut reminded me of Key & Peele's British vs American Actors skit - it's a must see >>>>>> ua-cam.com/video/S2_oXZKr_J8/v-deo.htmlsi=jElEQFXTSwZ6H8Yl
HMS Titanic is a British ship built in Ireland. Her maiden and only voyage was from Southampton, England.
Hugh Laurie had a great scene on Friends when he sat next to Rachel on a plane. He told her she was indeed on a break from Ross.
I enjoyed watching Kate Winslet in both Titanic and the Holiday.

I can’t believe they didn’t mention Damian Lewis. I first saw him on Band of Brothers and was stunned when I found out he was British
Yes, I was really surprised to learn he was British.

One of the great shows as well. 10/10
Hugh Laurie was on Season 4 Episode 24 of Friends. He is on the plane with Rachel when she is flying to Ross and Emily's wedding.
House was one of the best TV shows of all time.
Many were known well before their iconic America roles, by Americans, IF they like British TV and movies. 😂

HOUSE Hugh Laurie 💙🩵

Yup, and he actually nailed the 'American doing a British accent' part as well haha
if you guys ever get to the us again. you need to go to boston , vermont during the fall, and maine portland area
I think they should have mentioned Catherine Zeta-Jones! Her American accent in "Entrapment" was spot on. Just amazing....as was the movie!
It always amazes me that actors can do this. I doubt Americans can do British accents as well. Accents fascinate me.
5:38 you gotta remember though, the original Spider-Man was American.
Great video. I didn’t know Hugh was British. Idris is amazing and Henry is 🤤

They missed Benedict Cumberbatch too.

Hugh Laurie was half of the comedy team Fry and Laurie.
notice how its all handsome men with square heads that we cant believe are british lol.
Soccer is an English term, not American. Stands for Association Football, from the late 1800's.
Melanie Lynskey a New Zealand actress, did an amazing job on Two And A Half Men.
Keanu for the WIN on best British Accent!
Dracula?? Bwahahaha.. That’s a great joke lol

Love Elba and the Dark Tower movies.
You probably know Hugh Laurie from Fry&Laurie it was a British comedy he was a lot younger
The southern accent sounds like a northern person trying to talk with a southern accent.

I’m kinda jealous how you guys can do our accents, but we can’t do yours…
I’ve heard it’s often more expensive to hire American actors (for some reason).
I have an idea.....teach your family a lesson. Serve them up a turkey loaf....and ham loaf or spam. Dont they have turkey spam ?
Hugh Laurie was on the London episode of Friends. He was sitting next to Rachel on a plane.

Recently I’d add actress Kelly Riley from the Yellowstone show. She’s amazing in it and when I found it she was bri’ish it was a wow
Whenever it comes to Danial Day Lewis I’ve always thought that he’s one of the greatest actors ever. First movie of him in it was In The Name of The Father about the IRA I was hooked on his greatness

There are Americans that have done English accents. Not on Harry Potter. The author would have a fit.
