    Avatar connects me to the most beautiful parts of my humanity. Love, fear, bravery, connection, and fight for survival. It’s like the movie synchronizes to my human heartbeat.

      @@LukeLovesRose i grew up Baptist, and Christianity never made me feel this way. I would say Christianity made me feel even deeper connections, but I don’t identify as Christian because lots of ppl will think I believe certain things.
      I believe in love, forgiveness, acceptance, but also in fighting for justice, and coming to common ground.

    Same plot? The first one was about defending their home. They have to find a new home in this one and become a part of a water clan that they have a complicated relationship with, the story of the kids, not to mention the daughter who’s voiced by Weaver appears to be the first Navi with abilities, how in the world is this the same plot?? 😂

      people are assuming bc they don’t reveal much in the trailers, which is good, and they don’t know all the details mega fans know 😂

      @moviemeals  Рік тому

      Well we won't know for sure until the movie comes out. Alex means more along the lines of not expanding the story and world. Meeting a new tribe can do that, but it it follows similar beats to the first one and doesn't expand in anyway, that's what he's nervous about. Only time will tell, he still liked the trailer and is excited for the movie! Just a bit more hesitant!

      @@moviemeals I was just surprised at that perception from the trailer but I’m also thinking in terms of having seen all the trailers plus I got to see 15 mins of the film in addition to another 5 min sneak peak. I understand hesitation but I can’t see it, especially when this is James Cameron. Literally one of the only filmmakers out there who’s directed an iconic movie and then made a sequel which surpassed the original. (Aliens, Terminator 2). I also think we shouldn’t know a lot going in. Theres something to seeing a film and not knowing anything that makes that experience better.

      @@alexandershockey901 The best movies of recent are ones that knew they had an awesome story and hid it away instead of showing everything in trailers. Avengers Endgame. Nobody knew (for sure) what that movie was going to be! And it ended up being the most beloved and highest grossing film in history! The trailers didn’t breathe a word of story!! People drove to the theaters in part because of the mystery of it all. I don’t want trailers to reveal everything and it’s unfortunate that so many studios these days have made it a norm to throw all the story and action in the trailers.

    Keep in mind. We're only seeing 2 minutes of footage from a 3 hour movie. The Way of Water could be even more epic than these trailers will allow. We still havent gotten to know the Quaritch Avatar

  • @brady6687
    @brady6687 Рік тому +4

    Well Alex I understand that you are nervous but sometimes having a similar beat to the first story isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Like any creator you want to build on the foundation that worked and expand upon it like Aliens, T2, Empire Strikes Back etc.
    James Cameron has said numerous times he wants to expand on the world of Pandora along with its new characters. He knows that the first film didn’t focus alot on the characters when it came to caring about them emotionally and he wants that aspect to be at the center of the story.
    As for the trailer yes Jake Sully and his family
    are going to unfamiliar territory to the Metkayina Clan and they will have to learn and adapt to their ways to help them survive similar how Jake had to connect with Na’vi in the first film.
    I been following all aspects of this film and if you pay attention it’s clear that the trailers are holding back showing the RDA/humans and how they return. There’s a bigger storyline going on there especially with Stephen Lang’s character Miles Quaritch and how he returns in the movie. Also if you pay attention from the teaser trailer you know that Jake adopted a human son and has been absent from the trailers so there’s gonna be more story going on with that character. At the end of the day what’s gonna matter is if the film is good. If it is good people will come back multiple times to see it just like the first film.
    People doubt James Cameron all the time for most of his life when it came to making Aliens, T2, Titanic, and Avatar. Each of those films were successful both critically and financially. James Cameron has not once made a bad film and I think we should trust him that he knows what he’s doing. Cause as a director he has never lost his touch.

    Trust me, the Imax 3D version will blow you away. Trailers don't do it justice. The less you know, the better going in.
    If you think its more of the same, not only are you wrong, but same could be said of Marvel movies. More of the same.

    • @moviemeals
      @moviemeals  Рік тому

      Absolutely the same can be said for marvel and we won't know if the movie does or doesn't repeat the same beats until we see the movie. Hard to be wrong before we see it. Alex is more worried that the story wont expand, as a fan of the original, he wants to see it expand. The new tribe is a great indicator that it will but if that's the only thing we add and repeat the same points as the first, then we didn't expand the story. He has faith in Cameron but is just a bit more hesitant going in now and is excited to hopefully be proven wrong on his hesitations.

    James Cameron believes sequels should follow the same premise with a different design principle (to steal from John Truby).
    Pretty much...
    Terminator: A woman goes on the run for her life from a killer robot from the future with the help of a protector from that future who she falls in love with.
    Terminator 2: A mother and son go on the run from a killer robot from the future with the help of a future protector from the future.
    Same premise. But Terminator 2 is a vastly different film in tone, in story, and in the events that happen than the first one.
    Alien: A group of people are trapped on the ship with a monstrous alien and must fight to survive.
    Aliens: A group of soldiers are trapped on a shit with a ton of monstrous aliens and must survive.
    Aliens has the same premise, but it's executed differently, with a plot that goes around a woman devastated at the death of her daughter after being in cryo-sleep for 59 years. When she's on the ship again, she finds an orphan girl hiding on it, pretty much the same age as her daughter when she left her, and she gets a second chance at being a mother. She then fights the Alien Queen who is fighting to keep her babies alive. What has the same premise, is executed much differently.
    This is how he does sequels.
    From what he's written about.
    Avatar 2: A family fights to keep their home and all that they love from destruction.
    Now not seeing the movie, I'm going to guess we're going to have this family narrative, the destruction of their home when the humans return, and stuff like that. A regrouping, a rebuilding, while the looming threat of invasion holds true, with new weapons and new tech, and new challenges.
    Sequels restate the premise, that's what sequels do. They just find that piece that's unique and different and they amp the stakes up to 1000.

    The plot for T2 was almost the same as the first Terminator and nobody really cares. It all about suprises in familiar plot that matters for Cameron, it seems.

    I mean Star Wars repeat the same plot. The evil empire v the jedi. But we’re okay with it why because it’s really not the main plot it’s the backdrop. The real meat of the story is the family dynamics. So I don’t have a problem with Avatar backdrop being the evil human corporation v the indigenous people, so long as the can throw some family dynamics and swerves in there.

      100%! Star Wars expands the story through similar plot points, Alex is more worried that this trailer showed they won't really expand the world. Going to a new tribe is a great indicator that they will expand, but that can't be all that they do. He's really excited for the movie, just a little more nervous now!

    The lord of the rings is hailed one of the greatest trilogy’s of all time and the objective was literally the same in every movie, imo with them making over 2 billion they can do that as long as they add new exciting elements and improve on the first one and yes they have the ability to improve on the first even with similar story beats or objectives.
