  • ★ How to Identify & Foraging for Wild Garlic (UK Country Walks)
Today's Project Diary Video I'm on a country walk with my Mum hoping to forage some amazing Wild Garlic Flowers and eat them for the first time. Please respect our Woodlands, stick to the paths and only eat things you're 100% sure are edible. If in doubt, Leave it out!

The wild garlic leaves are an amazing addition to any salad. Something we look forward to each year. They seem to keep very well in the fridge, so we usually pick a good amount. We do make the point of picking not more than one leaf per plant, to not strip the bulb of too much foliage.
You mention bear's tastes for the bulbs. The species name of wild garlic "ursinum" comes from bear. As in Ursa Major, the great bear.

A shady corner of my garden has been taken over by wild garlic and 3 cornered leek. Boy does it like to spread, it’s also managed to find its way into my polytunnel and pops up between the rasied beds and the plastic sides of the tunnel. 3 cornered leek is delicious in mash potatoes.

Happy to see you up and about, glad to get a new video. I live in the Appalachian Mt range in the USA we get a wild garlic called "Ramps" these wild roots/plants are such a large part of our heritage we have special events dedicated to them. They grow so plentiful people go into the mountains dig them up and sale them at roadside stands.
