APOLLO 11 - KSP (REDONE VERSION)

- I dedicate this video to Amy Shira Teitel for her impressive work and awesome channel about the aerospace and American spacial program. I strongly advise you to go see her videos on her channel "Vintage Space" which are superbly explained and well realized. Thanks you Amy ;)
It's been a while since I made a video on the Apollo / KSP subject, but I wanted to redo it, in a more complex and closer to reality way but also in a more cinematic and pleasant to watch video.
By making this video I realized how difficult it is to represent each detail of the mission, while keeping the thing easy to watch and not too long.
It took me about 3 days to do the video with a huge editing work, lots a scenes to shoot in game multiple times, the scenes to redo etc. ...
There are a lot of details that are not perfect in this video, that's why I would like you to play a little game!
Tell me in the comment section if you find errors or differences between my video and the real mission. I know there is a lot of space nerds here, We will see if you are good ;)
By the way I want to point out that even if the Apollo 13 soundtrack is well known and used everywhere, is still damn cool. right?
Also, all the radio conversations and audio events are not on the right time scale, for cinematographic purposes.

I like how you made the orbit to the moon a free return trajectory, and the way you made the Apollo 11 LM hover above the ground for a bit before landing because Neil was still searching for a relatively safe landing zone, small details like these makes the video authentic and enjoyable.
YuriMasterRace 👍👍
Great script writing, the one about almost running out of fuel was written in 1961.

Ffs why all the nit picky comments about little accuracies, shut up and appreciate this beautiful piece of work
Because he stated it in the description that the viewers should look for and report these little errors?
After the final booster seperation, they were just sitting inside a metal can waiting to hit the atmosphere, with no way of exiting if anything went wrong. If the pod went out of control, or the heat shield were too thin, the entire thing would have burned to slag in the atmosphere.
Looking back at it now, it seems a miracle that there were no problems, considering the absolutely massive risks they all took
they had a 50% chance to land on the moon and a 30% chance to survive the entire deal
@PROOB 25 i didn't explain myself, they had a 1 in 2 chance to land on the moon and a 1 in 3 chanche to survive the entire mission
@@flaviosalatino8192 realistically, they probably had better odds than that. After all, a failure would be disastrous for the US' space program and their place in the Space race.
Wasn't it Neil Armstrong who quoted those odds?
@@hydrochloricacid2146 yeap it was

War brings innovation
so does space exploration ;)

This is so beautiful, and really well done! Amazing editing, amazing music, and i really love how you have the real audio from the real landing.
the only thing that is bugging me is that it is using the stock kerb system, and if this was done with RSS, i think it would be even better, this is just a small complaint, but still, congratulations on this video, it is seriously impressive!
Love this! And love KW Rocketry for the Griffin Century engine sound. I use that engine on practically everything because it sounds awesome with a subwoofer.
I do see that the parts aren't KW Rocketry, but the huge engine ignition sound is there from the Griffon Century. Thanks for letting me know the part pack, I've been looking for these.
Very well done. must've been a pain in the ass making this. I very much like it.
55 flat earthers didn’t like the video
the parachute part looked amazing!
It's been 45 years since apollo launched.. yet look how far we have come.. after 45 years it not a single human has left low earth orbit. It took 45 years just for the planning and testing for NASA to build the SLS for Orion.. They deserve the budget they had.
They did not deserve the budget when they choose the using space shuttles. Absurdly expensive yet dangerous. But in 1969 nasa had almost same budget with whole space shuttle program so nasa does not care i guess.
@@sazanavi You should look at the initial proposal for the STS program, it was actually quite ambitious and could have accomplished a lot. The reason we got the Shuttle and all its flaws was because Congress gutted NASA post-Apollo, forcing them to integrate what started out as a whole system of spacecraft into a single spaceplane.
Looks like it's the real thing! Great job buddy!
(I don't know him/her in real life just so you know)
Best KSP apollo remake on youtube
Wow! Great video...thanks!
The lunar module only had one engine to power it’s ascent. If that failed, Mark watney time
They could of wound down the window and blow air with their mouths.
Should have also included Armstrong's second words on the moon:
"YABBA DABBA DOO!"
Very good... The only difference from actual Apollo 11 is Eagle's ascent stage de-orbit. During the actual flight,it was left in lunar orbit, before decaying and crashing in an unknown lunar place. But otherwise very great job.
Antonin Mathieu, also Mission Control instructed Armstrong and Aldrin to keep everything on, so that TELMU and CONTROL could see how long the LM's systems could last without cooling water; something that came in handy when Apollo 13's LOX tank blew up 9 months later and the crew had to use their LM as a lifeboat with the onboard resources available.
R.I.P Neil armstrong.
Rest in peace, sir
Amazing! I loved the detail you put into every second of video. 10/10

Magnificently done!
Wow, just wow, i have been trying to do this mission with the parts from FASA. i have yet to return from the moon because of the lack of fuel used from the lunar circularization burn. I am still trying to get back to earth. TAC life support makes it really hard and having enough Delta V.
It was July 16 not 19 and the panels on the S4 B were not hinged , they fall away.
True and in fact one of them shadowed the LM for quite a way. Some media tool Aldrins words and call the one panel that he saw a UFO and that got a lot of fake press.

Wow... Really impressive!
At 8:22 they test our understanding of the relationship between Earth and the moon. When on the side of the moon facing Earth, you can't really achieve a Earth horizon photo. To see Earth you look straight up every time. Earth is 90° from the front side of the moon we see all the time.
First of all: there is no "they" or "nasa" here, I am the author of this video, i'm just a casual gamer and I did this on KSP (space flight simulator). I can tell you that, in fact, you absolutly can have the earth over the horizon, depending on the orientation of the sun; REMEMBER, there is 3 parameters! (earth, moon and sun alignement) not just 2. Just because we only see one side of the moon, doesn't mean that the sun allway illumnate that one side. knowing this, I can perfectly land in the light and see earth just over the horizon, in fact i can even land (still in the light) and not even see the earth. Tell me if you still have doubts :)
@@Nospecificplan the same side, not necessarily the light side, always faces Earth. And the side facing Earth is where the sea of tranquility is. From there you would have to look straight up off of the moon. That is where Earth will always be in relation to the sea of tranquility.
@@Nospecificplan sorry about the "they", you were not my target. More the original producers.
Pee S ? You do know what a new moon is, right? Even if it doesn’t rotate it still goes through phases like earth. Expect they are much longer. So it is possible that the earth can be in the horizon. All they would have to do is just time it so that when they arrive tranquility phase is when the earth is in the horizon, which I’m pretty sure they can do.
@@anamarte9859 interesting. So during this phase has the moon rotated to show us a different "section" of the moon?

Nicely done! What mods did you use for the camera-work?
The only discrepancy between what I see here and what happened during the mission is that here, the adapter panels on the S-IVB stage remain connected to it after opening. That is incorrect; that is how they were designed originally (and functioned on previous Apollo missions), but it is not how they were designed to function on Apollo 11. Rather, they were designed to be completely blown off by explosive bolts. This was done for two main reasons: first, there was some concern that if the panels remained attached, the force generated by docking the Apollo Command Module with the Lunar Module might cause the panels to swing forward, which could damage the Apollo Spacecraft. Second, problems with the panels had been experienced on a previous Apollo mission, Apollo 7, in which one of the panels did not completely deploy to its 45 degrees open position. Fortunately, Apollo 7 was not carrying a Lunar Module, and so this malfunction did not impede the mission. However, had Apollo 7 been a lunar mission, with a Lunar Module, it could have been very problematic. As a result, a decision was made by NASA engineers to install a system to completely separate the panels via explosive bolts on all missions following Apollo 7.
Shadowkey392 k
That was astonishing; I had no idea that Kerbal Space Program could do that.
