- Adam Cayton-Holland's new special "Wallpaper" tells tales of parenthood that arrive in his unique style: laced in poetic language, chock-full of strange detail, and delivered with equal thoughtfulness and silliness. But this special goes beyond the typical material about fatherhood: in fact, Adam wrestles on stage with whether or not he wants to become a dad comedian at all. He’s aware that his fans didn’t originally sign on for his take on Paw Patrol (“defund Paw Patrol,” Adam bravely says). In a hilarious, surreal bit that closes the special, Adam “remembers” a long conversation he had with his 3-year-old about his career and the comedy industry overall. In this very real conversation that definitely happened, Adam’s 3-year-old discourages him from joining the “toxic masculinity podcast circle jerk” dominating the industry. Instead, his son encourages him to be proud of the performer he’s becoming, commending him for “writing what he knows.” Wallpaper showcases in a hilarious, vulnerable way a comedian growing into a new kind of artist and a new kind of person right before our eyes.

My sister, being a fresh import to Arkansas, asked my dad when they were driving down a windy road, quite seriously, why the cows didnt fall over standing on hills. He thought about it for a second and matter of factly stated "it depends if they are left or right handed". And he proceeded to weave a quite convincing explanation pointing out the various left and right handed cows as they were facing different directions on the side of a hill. The left handed cows had longer left legs and the right had longer right legs... they didn't tip over by just facing one direction. She was still the "new" kid at school. Not much moving around goes on in Arkansas so the new kid is under extreme scrutiny until they find their place in the pecking order... she was real eager to fit in and jumped out of the truck when they got to school and he heard her say to all the country kids "Hey! Guess what I learned today!"
I'm gonna be telling that story until the day I die. I hope to teach it to her kids so they can keep it alive after I'm gone.

Great show! I was listening as I was doing other things and I remember when he talked about his son only repeating what he hears him say, I totally busted up laughing. I watched it a 2nd time in case there were parts I missed but even though I knew what he was going to say, his act was still funny. Thank you for the laughs, Adam! .

09:47 I don't know what it is, but this exact joke, of pronouncing "papa" in this affected, antiquated way is just repeated over and over and over again in stand-up comedy. I've literally heard stand-up comedians make that exact "joke" in maybe like 15 different sets from 15 different individuals? I don't understand not very funny joke.

Delivery: 7/10 (His strongest asset is his vocal presentation and timing)
Content: 2/10 (Lost me at "woke dad". I can ignore political bias overtones, and a couple one-liners in any left or right direction, but he leaned into this HARD. **Would have been the same 2/10 outcome if he had said he was a bible-thumping, card carrying NRA member.)
Overall: 3/10. Will probably be more enjoyable to a progressive (child having ) audience that wants to laugh and clap along to someone who thinks like they do.
Intelligence: 2/10 (reviewer literally doesn't seem to understand the concept of creativity has nothing to with a general topic)
Tone: 1/10 (stay away from pretentious curmudgeons at parties folks)
