That sure covers a lot of ground fast, doubt I could successfully land it at 70 years old…. Sure looks fun and brought back a lot of memories
yes it does! Stall speed is only a few mph more than a topless. It is heavier though.
Real pleasure to fly, power steering. I see many belly landing them intentionally.
Glad you enjoyed! Happy to take you along.
Beautiful Place, and that glider looks amazing 👍
Very fortunate to have this for the local area flying. Never gets boring/ The Atos is such a pleasure to fly.
Super gorgeous area to fly. The smoke is a great thing in the LZ, but a bit later turn onto final would seem good.
Yep! should have extended the downwind leg for sure. Normally the flaps let you make up for an error like that. It was very buoyant. Given the size of the LZ, I can get a bit complacent sometimes. (bad thing to do) should always have a "spot" picked out and aim for. So when you "have to" you can.
The smoke is nice. I have one in the harness and 3 drop streamers.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Very nicely done Mike as always, great work on the landing , running and maintaining focus. The verbal sounded a bit like myself.
Thank you. I overshot a lot! Glad I did it in a large LZ.
Good stuff!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Thats life though ,,, lol that glider just keeps going . By gods its fast though .
Yeah, I did setup a bit high, but I can usually get it on the deck sooner. Some days I tell ya.
Had a landing with my old VR there before, the flaps were a little less effective than the new ones, that thing would go forever!

Your next Atos needs to have spoilers. 😜
Yes,! If I get desperate I could toss the drag Chute. I haven't tried that yet .
there wss a pilot years back that used one, and it seemed to work very well. The spoilers would be a nice option to have as you can retract them
The tractor might have drawn you in on the landing.
I was trying to stay on the level ground, to the right a bit, it slopes down slightly.
Interesting design hang glider, new to me.
It is an atos, German made rigid wing. Very good performance has spoilerons and flaps, the tail is adjustable with the flap adjustment

@@MikeBomstad какие же будут отличные характеристики с такой стреловидностью ?
Beautiful video and pics!! Is it cold up that high?
Thank you. Yes it can be very cold. Depending on the time of the year I can easily be below freezing at top of lift
Listening to your vario tone on finals, I think you your descent slowed, maybe some lift at a time you could not use it.
The tone was the sink alarm, its set to 200 fpm (as a reminder to get going when you hear it) when it stopped, I hit some lift, I said ahh fuck because I was going to be long already, as it was boutent in the LZ and I was going to be longer now. (more walk back) Not the end of the world, but I like to play the "its a small LZ" game in a big one as practice for when I really need it, like here ua-cam.com/video/ImEg6WRsxcw/v-deo.html
I know, the story of my life…you can’t get altitude until you come in on final, then you get all kinds of lift! WTF!!!
It never fails! 😉
what is the "beeping" measuring ... airspeed stall alert ??
I would have to double-check but I believe it's either 21 or 22 mph, I normally have about 3 seconds before the onset of actual stall which I believe is around 18 19 mph. You want sets higher than stall so you have some time to contemplate this is the time to get serious!.
Your stall speed depends on your wing loading.
Yes, its the stall alarm
@@MikeBomstad seems like a must have safety device ... a great idea.
The beeper is the vario to tell you if you're climbing or descending, not sure how this question got misconstrued 😂 so a rising tone means it's feeling a reduced pressure consistent with climbing (in a thermal or other lift) but it isn't generally perfect because pressure can change for many reasons. It's primary purpose is to stop you circling in what you think is a good thermal when you may actually only just be maintaining altitude. Beginner pilots are often discouraged from using instruments so they can develop a feel for good thermals rather than relying on tech. They are very good bits of kit though, essential for higher altitude when reference points are further away, and that setup looks awesome.
Thanks. I read the "what is the "beeping" measuring ... airspeed stall alert ? and though he was referencing the stall alarm at the end of the vid..... ooops (I get asked about the stall alarm a lot)
идея конечно идиотская , имея ГО , сделать стреловидность по передней кромке и С образный профиль на дозвуковом ЛА . Делай прямую кромку, несущий профиль и нормальное ГО . Ни рыба ни мясо в конечном итоге.
maybe in time we will get there....
cant believe missed this vid ,Hey man, So what caused the Overshoot ? As a layman , I believe those ATOS's generate incredible ground effect , especially on warm-hot days :)
Bad set up, I should have been lower. LZ was very buoyant.
