Fascinating.....at around 3:40 or 41 or so you can see the speed brakes lift slightly just before flap extension. During maintenance the speed brakes have to be lifted separately BEFORE flap movement to prevent the speed brakes from impinging on the flaps and causing wear damage. In this case it is possible that it is done automatically during the phase of flight when engines are running. (Why don't we want the speed brakes to chaff the flaps?) Because the flaps are composite fiber material and chaffing can cut right through the skin after hundreds of cycles. Airbus avoids this by installing sacrificial anti-chaff strips where the flap touches the speed brakes. They are inspected and changed when needed.
I'm going to Los Angeles and Las Vegas with Virgin in September. Planned aircrafts were A350-1000 and return from Vegas on Dreamliner but now going to LA will also be 787 too. Disappointed by the change but otherwise looking forward to flying 787 for 1st time
