    For less than $20 I bought a stainless steel extractor tool that fits on my shop vac. I spray cleaner on couch and scrub it in with a brush on the cordless drill. Make sure you use the gentler brush works great on upholstery! I only use a few drops of cleaner in spray bottle of water. This way I don’t need a clean water rinse.
    For me, the shop vac has much more sucking power than household machines and I already owned it. I also sprinkle baking soda on couch first and work it in. Let sit 30 minutes and vac it up before cleaning. Really helps with dog odor.
    The shop vac also will blow air out if you set it that way. I’ll put a few drops of essential oil in hose and blast air into sofa. Helps dry it faster and smell good too

      @@sawdustandcornbread you're welcome. I've got more lol. You can buy the drill brush kit with different scrubbers on Amazon. They're great for tubs, tile, shower doors.

    This would definitely work well, however, as someone who had their own cleaning business in the 90’s & specialized in carpet, tile, furniture, etc…the additional fabric softener rinse may smell great but will attract more soil. I’d do a rinse with water and white vinegar…it’ll dry just fine and won’t smell like pickles. Point & oscillatie a fan on it and it’ll dry faster. I have wiener dogs and an english bulldog on chenille furniture & this is what I do in between my twice yearly full on Bissell ProHeat Pet Little Green upholstery machine. Also vinegar is far better in your washing machine than fabric softener…those coat the inner workings of your washer and dryer with chemicals and additives that will cause corrosion and for them not to function as well…also keeps towel absorbent and fluffy…just a 1/2-1 cup in the rinse depending on load size.

      Thanks for the tips and welcome to the channel @marinemom70 ! I enjoy how this community can learn from one another. 🥰 I know someone who likes to tuck a few fabric sheets between the cushions to keep it fresh. That may be a good alternative if you aren't comfortable using it directly on the couch. They are also great to toss in drawers or zipped into suitcases between vacations. Hope this helps. Welcome to the channel @vickisullivan847 ! I appreciate your comments. In the past, I have borrowed and rented steam cleaners for carpet and upholstery. I was never satisfied with the results. My experience was the machines applied way more water than necessary. The surface is all that requires wet cleaning. All of the filling is sufficiently cleaned by vacuuming.
      I also found the machines never had enough suction to sufficiently remove the water and soap soaked into the batting. Waiting for the furniture to dry for such a long period of time isn't an option in our house.
      This channel is all about using the things you have to make the things you want. Many of us don't own steam cleaners. A lot of times there is no wiggle room in budgets for buying or renting a machine. If you are blessed with a great machine that functions as it should, that's awesome! For those of us who don't, a little elbow grease makes our furniture look brand new.

    I dont think its hygienically clean, bacteria still sitting on it ?

    • @sawdustandcornbread
      @sawdustandcornbread  Рік тому

      Welcome to the channel, @anjagutsell5781 ! It is definitely clean enough for the average family. A steam cleaner typically leaves the underlying couch filling overly wet. This is the perfect situation for mold and mildew to grow. Also, Woolite is a detergent type soap. Just as when you wash your hands, dirt and bacteria are lifted, displaced, and rinsed away. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching. ~Lora Lea

      U do realize that bacteria exist everywhere, right? 99% are at least benign, and many are actually good for u. Your skin is protected by a layer of beneficial bacteria.

      Great point @staceykersting705 . We need a little bacteria to keep us healthy. 🙂 No house is a sterile house. That's a good thing. Thanks for commenting. Welcome to the channel! ~Lora Lea

    • @sawdustandcornbread

      @@julieee4246, Thanks for your comment. This method uses a detergent type soap to lift and displace soils and oils from the couch surface. Rinsing wipes the contaminants away. Just like washing your hands with soap and water. There is no need to wet and extract the underlying fiber fill unless there is a deep penetrating stain such as pet urine. In that case, I definitely recommend an extractor. I hope this helps. 🙂 Thanks for your comment. Welcome to the channel! ~ Lora Lea

    Woolite may be good for this purpose. However Woolite for carpet is horrible. I have used it thinking the name brand would be good. It was not. I used another product that cleaned it well that Woolite carpet could not clean at all. A waste of time and money. Very overpriced. Main thing it doesn't work.

      Welcome to the channel @jancoley9051 ! I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with your carpet. It is definitely a completely different animal when it comes to cleaning. The fibers drink up whatever you use on them. Liquid seeps into the padding underneath. I'm glad you found something that works! Would you mind sharing what worked?~Lora Lea

      @@sawdustandcornbread Thank you. I can't remember exactly which one that worked. Sorry I would share that info if I could but don't want to say the wrong thing. Carpet cleaning is in my past, thank goodness. I think I would recognize it on the shelf. I definitely remember what didn't work and that was Woolite. Great it works for you.

    • @sawdustandcornbread
      @sawdustandcornbread  Рік тому +1

      Yes, I don't recommend Woolite on carpet. It may be o.k. for a very light surface cleaning on a short pile, tightly looped rug such as berber.
      I removed all the carpets from my hardwood floors when my children were small. I felt it was never clean enough no matter how I cleaned it. I borrowed and rented steam cleaners.. I vacuumed constantly. While removing the carpets and pads, I saw what is lurking underneath. I'm o.k. with never having carpets again. Lol. It's warm and comfortable, but so are socks. And they're easier to clean. 😀 ~ Lora Lea
