    got that procedure done. Was given a second chance in life. Something heavy felt on my head, months ago, but as many men, desired to ignore it. It came back months later as a subdural hematoma. Surgery was fine had staples and draining holes for after fluid. space out with taking care of wound which got infected and wont close. Had to go to the hospital again to fix the problem.(sucks like hell going back to hospital) Went home with a midline catherer for antibiotics for two weeks. had initial symtoms of arm and half of tonge numbness. But was corrected with antiseizure meds. I feel lucky to be alive. My message (if you get hit in the head, go asap and get it checked do not wait) PS I went to the ER because i was having this headaches for a couple of moths and had never had recurring headaches like that before

    Thank you for highlighting Craniectomy (I can’t stand when people try to tell me “oh you mean craniotomy”). However, not everyone who gets a Craniectomy has their bone reattached at a later date. They threw my mom’s piece of skull away because they were convinced she would die. Now six years later, she still has a giant soft crater at the base of her skull. They said, “oh don’t worry, there’s enough tissue to protect the brain.” Oh yea? Why do we have skulls at all then? 😒

    When they put the skull back, the three holes still remain there. How do they close the drilled holes ?

    • @montanas4174
      @montanas4174 3 роки тому +2

      The drilled holes are filled with screws thats how they attach it back together, it will then be covered by the layer of scalp going back on top and your hair grows back. The scalp will be stapled back together. So in that way the drilled holes are not visible. But touching, you can feel the difference. The skull bone doesn't grow and if your skull bone is fractured more likely they replace your bone with a titanium plate which is what I have got, my incident was car accident, so to release the pressure and the fractured bone they performed this operation whilst I was in a coma and weeks later waking up not knowing what has happened, believe there isn't a word or a sentence to say how one feels knowing what has happened. But this operation has saved me and others for God knows what state one would have been in if it wasn't available.

    when you cut and retrieve the tumor, wouldn't CSF be leaking out? how does a surgeon stop that? also, how fast does it heal? will CSF still be leaking after the sutures? and how does the 3 layers (dura mater, arachnoid mater and pia mater realign themselves? or will we need 3 layers of sutures?

      Unlike general incisions into the body, a cut into a persons head is extremely small, and therefore CSF, which is a very dense, thick liquid, is not able to flow out at a mass rate.

    • @PiKxeL42
      @PiKxeL42 6 років тому +2

      also the body completely changes its CSF about 3 times per day so if you do lose a bit it regenerates relatively fast.
