This is a cool project, Vikkie. It would be a great addition to a ledge or tree outside the window of a school classroom. My mother-in-law lives in an assisted living facility and has a squirrel feeder right outside her window. This feeder and its bushy tailed visitors are the absolute high point in her life. Thanks for this unique video.
Aww, that's reassuringly lovely to know because I've actually started building another one today, but for a similar situation! It's for my cousin who is living in a shared home with others and they all have carers, so it's going to be a communal bird table - although much bigger. In fact, he wanted one the moment he saw this one 😆 I'll try and look for things to hang from it for them before I drop it off :)
Great build. Love the rustic look & no pressure treated pine !! All measurements have "-ish" added because the sizes will change by next year when seasoned a bit! Cherry will take more than a year to air dry. Long time since I last did. But equated to at least 1 year per inch thickness & space out layers with air gap, don't let them warp, protect from rain soaking ....black mouldy timbers are not nice!
Thanks! :) And glad you liked it too :) It felt goofy, like something that belonged in The Flintstones until I added the suet log, which, although really simple, is my favourite bit (and the birds' 😂)
This is incredible!! A proper gourmet all you can eat buffet wow 😍😍😍 luckiest birds .. and all the neighbours will be wondering where the birds went 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Such a shame! Maybe when it gets hotter, it'll be different? I had an awful feeling we wouldn't get any birds at all. They loved the bread we chucked on the grass, but it took a day for the birds to work out, or trust this new thing in the middle of the garden. And now, they're clearing all the suet on the table (and in the log) in less than a day!! This is going to get an expensive hobby lol
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK I saw a magpie on it this evening, so yes I think it takes time for them to get used to things and remember them in their mental map of their world! Yes bird feed isn't cheap is it?!
Good easy step by step guide as always. If I was making one I would look at adding drainage to allow rain water to run away from food area, just a thought. Stay safe 👍
very nice! I built a bird house out of some off-cuts. The squirrels tried to take over, but my dog chased the squirrels off. The birds really picked up ever since my neighbors built a "catio" Thanks for posting!
Good dog 😆 Hans chases off everything, so like to try and keep him in with us as much as possible until his walkes times. *also.. had to look up the word Catio. Didn't even know they existed 😄
What a Smashing little Bird Table project .... Ours died after 20+ years this year, sat sadly by the compost heap these days :-( .... (Now there's an idea) .... :-)
Glad it didn't disappoint!! I can't believe that I've had to top up the suet log and replace the coconut daily 😄 The birds seem VERY hungry around here 😆
Sorry, I haven't put them in the description yet, but they are all here in my blogpost 👌 thecarpentersdaughter.co.uk/woodworking/wooden-bird-feeding-station/
Nice project. You made a slight narrative mistake saying you made the suet nugget holes with a holesaw instead of a spade bit. No biggie, just letting you know.
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK just watched your DIY bike shed video. You referred to a spade bit as a holesaw again. Must be one of your idiosyncrasies ! You did an excellent job with the bike shed. I’m really impressed with your DIY journey, you are UK’s version of April Wilkerson.
i spent about 6 hours making & siting a bird feeder .. 1 hour later a squirrel claimed it as his/hers & chases anything else away from it ( even when it's empty ) come autumn i'm going to build 2 squirrel proof ones & keep all of them topped up
Excellent we have tits and all sorts in our garden sometimes we get birds too 😂😂 No it’s lovely to see birds and never had blue tits and green finches in the garden before this year, Now the robins have gone I enjoyed watching them... we use suet pellets, fat balls, and suet blocks, tried dried mealworms they just blew all over the place b&m do a bird feeding thing it’s a metal half barrel that you hang up they love it as there is some amount of shelter too
Thanks :) Funny that I found your comment this morning in the review folder, due to the word tits 😆😆 I spotted anti squirrel ones in there, but I'd have to make a bigger tabler to fit it under 😝
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK I guess you also love spending $2 a pound every couple of days, on food, when they drain it dry. But you can thank democrat administrations for all the price hikes, and inflation.

Thanks for video,. Suet is a life saver to our birds in cold winters mix it with crushed up egg shells to give calcium.
I like the sound of that! I have a feeling my mum does that for her chickens 🤔

I restored a bird table and added a very similar base to it last year. They work well and look good too👌👍 Excellent project! Birds are loving it.

Or why they've all had a sudden increase of bird poo in their gardens! 😂
That's a lovely design, good to see the birds enjoying it. I put a birdbath in my garden this week, but haven't seen a bird anywhere near it!

"Worried about birds judging your carpentry" ahahaha! Love you and your videos.
I've had no complaints from them 😂 They keep coming back every day for food ☺️

Thanks! I did consider that, so will see how it goes when it rains. If the seeds have started to sprout, then I'm on it :)
Lovely job it’s easy when someone shows you how to do it
Much easier to pay someone to do it when it's a hot day 😆

Great idea👍 would you do a bird bath to match it or just add it on top. Keep up the hard work
Thanks! Was going to buy a little one to add on the side, but the prices are a bit 😬😬
So for now, I've put a small dish on the floor.

Is it too low though?
It is lower than a standard one, yes, but thought a cat is capable of jumping on either and the birds are accessing the feeders easy enough.

Lovely bird table but unfortunately it way too low pet, too within easy striking distance for cats but raise it up it’s lovely
Thanks for your honesty. I was in 2 mins as the neighbour's looks nice at a similar height, but I might change the legs eventually.
Looks like those pesky black birds will be devouring that food in no time. So will the squirrels.
I LOVE blackbirds 🥰
