13:28 To put his words into context: He declined several awards and interviews for years, then they got the king to summon him. And there's no polite way to decline an award given by the king, so he had to accept it. That's why that onstage interview is pretty much the only one you'll ever find with him.
I was outside his studio in Stockholm in the late 90ies hoping to meet the backstreet boys when they were recording there. Friends of friends have met him and always described him as a very down to earth kinda guy. It was so sad when his friend and partner Denniz died. He wrote a song on a backstreet boys album influenced by the grief of his dear friend- "don't wanna loose you now". When they performed that song in Stockholm I saw max Martin in the audience, sitting with Robyn, and I wound imagine that it must have been emotional for him seeing everyone turn on lighters and such to the ballads (most fans new this was the inspiration for the song). That's all I have to say about that... I wish he would get back to his roots and do more hit songs for backstreet boys again! Make BsB great again!😄👍
I can appreciate Max talents and achievements, but me being in my 50's, I am actually a bigger fan of Denniz Pop, he was the guy behind Max Martin who made tonnes of great pop-songs before he, tragically died way too young. R.I.P. Denniz Pop.
I was living in stockholm and passing by Cheiron studios every day to and from work, didnt know what it was, i assumed it was something good because for some reason there was heaps of people outside of there sometimes, i was more thinking it was some club but i never liked to go clubbing. Then i changed jobs and worked across the street and ate at a nearby resturant, that was when i learned it was a music studio, but i buried my head in electronics, that was the most interesting thing in the world for me, and still is :) Not sure if they ever saw them but i would probably be starstruck if they were designing electronics, and yea i love the music on the radio, didnt know the most songs often came from around the corner.
They say that the Swedish language is quite melodic with its ups and downs which isn't quite pleasant to hear from a normal foreigner. But when it comes to melodic music I think we have an advantage.
He's passed Lennon since this vid was made, someone told me that he's passed McCartney as well but I haven't seen anything supporting that claim. The vast majority of his song's aren't my style, but he's impressive nevertheless
About the psychology of producing: This has always been an important skill the best producers harness. Anyone who ever knew someone who played in a band knows how fraught the relations within a band can be. Add the pressure of coming up with something the label is happy with, and something that ultimately sells, and you realise studio sessions can quickly become miserable experiences. And for solo artists I guess the pressure is even worse. Of course it's easier to trust a guy who's had 25+ number ones, but still, I'm sure the psychological aspect is still prominent on any given work day of his.
"Max coming from a foreign country"..??? No, Max comes from Sweden! If there is anyone who would be foreign it would be those who choose to work with him not being from Sweden :-)
Paul McCartney and John Lennon wrote 32 and 26 hits respectively in their time, but that’s not quite the same as Max Martin having written 25 hits with such a diverse range of artists over a span of 25 years. When you consider that, Max's achievement stands in a class of its own. It raises the question: Where is Sweden's music talent headed after Max Martin?
I listen to the music first … lyrics are secondary, being a swede myself maybe its true that we have a knack for melody… i like all genres if it sounds good
Go to Tommy Johansson's YT channel. He plays over 10 instruments, sings like a god, has his own band Majestica and until recently he was the guitarist in Sabaton. In and listen. He is a godsend to covers and music.
Im gonna reveale a bit of Max Martins succes! At first swedes is quite good at understand English.. some of us/a lot speak fluent english.. in anycase we sounds like if we speak fluent English! Thats the cause of SVT not dubb, but insted use subttitles! Another thing is, about a third of swedish pupils get free or not so much expensive musical classes! I did a year of fluit lessons.. its the basics in lower grades.. I did drop out.. a fluit was simple.. it was rather that I didnt understand music at all! In anyway it was at the same years we started to study English.. it was much easyer! An another revaliation.. even if it sound that we speak fluent English.. we are more used to TV/Movie/film/cinema/popmusic/US/brittish.. entertainment words and expressions! Soo.. Max Martin use english words and expressions that sounds cool for a swede.. its this its dont need to be poeticaly or well english speaking.. and ofcourse good music! And there is now a chunk of "swedish music producer living in Los Angeles"! The swedish music maffia!
Super talented. Super nice. Hard working. His music is so simple/boring that no one will listen to it in the future. He was a mediocre musician that got a once in a lifetime oportunity to work with Dennis Pop. 10 000 other composers in Sweden could have done it too. Nothing special about him. Just faith... luck... hard work. Talent and hard work is everything. Sucess is just luck/coincedense.
I dont think he was correct with saying it was due to that he is not an english native speaker. I can agree at some degree though with that he might not fully understand the finer details in a lyric or expressing things as a native speaker would. But when it comes to the mentioned controversial text for example it is all about the Swedish vs American cultural differencies.
God, I am so sick of seeing this video and the misinformation everywhere.. Yes, Max Martin is a genius producer and he used to be the one everyone wanted to work with back in the day. But not so much these days, at least not with people who write their own music... Max Martin built his career by demanding writing credits on every song he produces even when he didn´t have anything to do with the actual songwriting. To get songwriting credits you have to contribute to lyrics and/or main melody. That is what gives a songwriter credit by law. But this man demanded in his contracts that artists give him writing credits in order to produce ANY song. Now, has he actually written songs for some artists? I am sure he has for many. for those who cannot write themselves. The reason this stealing writing creidts became public was after one artists he demaded writing credits for, Taylor Swift was in a stupid lawsuit concerning the song "Shake it off". He is credited as a co-writer on that song, but he had to write a letter explaining to them that eventhough he is credited as a songwriter, he actually didn´t have anything to do with actual writing of the song (aka lyrics+main melody) and therefore should not be a part of the lawsuit... It was after that that his dealings with other artists became public too. And that is why he is not very popular to work with these days. Now should producers get more money for their work, sure! But stealing writing credits to build your careér and have these videos list all the songs he "wrote" is really not it.... And I am a swede saying this.... He is a cool guy, a genius producer, but saying he wrote all these songs is misinformation.
that is not all what happened, Max testified in court that he didn't write the lyrics (he said nothing about the melody since the case was only about the lyrics), he is listed as songwriter because songwriter isn't only the lyrics and he helped Taylor as a songwriter to make the song from the original lyrics that she wrote. There is no controversy here what so ever. He is also not listed as songwriter on many of his works, only producer, which very much negates this conspiracy idea that he demands writing credits on every project he is involved with. And ofc he is not involved with "at least not with people who write their own music" since they write their own music... Sorry but that was really something.
Max Martin is now the biggest number one hit producer of all times since he has passed the Beatles duo on the list.
Yes, and no 2 after Paul McCartney as songwriter of number one hits .
He's currently on 27 Billboard no #1, so + 2 since this video was made😃😃
Yes he has passed John Lennon, whatch out Paul McCartney!

12:16 he just described his music as a type of "Lagom", so very swedish of Max Martin.
Max Martin is such a humble and nice guy. And of course so talanted.
i´ve meet him a cuple of times, super polite, funny and overal top person

Make BsB great again!😄👍
He forgot the 7 second rule, allways make the song change a little every 7 seconds to make the listener engaged and never bored.
Max Martin is insane for this!!!
Update: Since that video Max now has 27 number-one singles.
Don't forgett "Denniz pop"🇸🇪
R.I.P sadly he died way too young
We are of course very proud of Mr. Martin :) And they say we are under the "law of Jante" 😂

Shellback is also a great Swedish one, take a look at his works. Red One has some good stuff too.
Thank you, your channel is great❤
2:39 yep still the same today for the music school
As he said, Dennis Pop was his teacher and he gave him the possibility to develope his talents....

Volvo made a legendary ad with the first couple seconds. It’s call The hook, it’s here on UA-cam 😅
As of October, 2024, Max Martin has co-written, or co-produced, *80* top-10 singles on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

Heard of Dirty Loops?
You def should watch that other video mentioned
He is also the lead in Swedish viking comedy Hem Till Midgård :P
What?! 😆 No! The lead is Fredde Granberg. Definitely not Max Martin
He seem to be something else!!!
He's passed John Lennon now.

6:38 - "Even my son who's four years old ..."
And here I was, thinking you were like 22...
Kids today look younger and younger the older I get =/
Max Martin is great but Lennon and McCartney are in a different category as they were singer/songwriters. Dont know how the statistics looks there?
Im gonna reveale a bit of Max Martins succes!
