A clarification: in the video, I don't mention any potential business opportunities in the medical field or anything health related. I'm sure there's a lot of "immune boosting" and "anti viral" supplements and other stuff that's being sold a lot, but most of that is snake oil. And of course, there's a pressing need for medical masks and other PPE and I'm sure many opportunities in and around the immediate medical field that the virus is affecting. However, I don't see this as a startup-friendly space. Anyone can make a piece of software that makes online meetings more effective. Not just anyone can create an important piece of medical equipment.
I have said for a long time that there are always opportunities around us that we do not see. We all have blind spots. However, there are those that do not see because they refuse to look. There are those that do not see because they don’t know where to look. In this video Shane took care of the second part but it is up to us to take care of the first part. I believe that the last video was more theoretical (more of a mindset shift) and this video covers more practical things that we can do. It’s where the rubber meets the road. Shane, you mentioned watching human behavior. What are humans doing? What are they searching for? What problems are they currently experiencing? I believe you can only see this if you are willing to let go of the old and let in the new. Human behavior as we know it has changed forever. There is a new normal. There are so many things dying and so many other things are being born. Let me give you a more practical example of what I’m talking about. Let’s discuss the subject of restaurants. What do they need right now and going forward? 1. Online ordering. They need the ability to be able to take orders online. Many mom and pop restaurants don’t know how to do this. But if all you focused on was solving this problem for restaurants you wouldn’t be providing them with a holistic solution. Don’t get me wrong if this is all you did you could actually kill it but you’d be competing against some companies that have much bigger pockets than you do. So what else could you attach to this offer to make it more desirable and more long term. 1. Help the restaurants adapt their menus to online ordering on Google My Business, Yelp, and other social media platforms. 2. Run local Facebook ads for the restaurant helping them promote their offers. 3.Help them build a list of phone numbers and emails so they can be able to send weekly offers to the customers that already know, like, and trust them. 4. Help them build a list of FB Messenger subscribers so they could run contests, offer coupons, etc. 5. Help them start a Birthday VIP club. 6. Have access to a resource that would help them get access to small business loans quickly. 7. Work on their SEO so they can begin to rank organically in Google’s 3-pack for the keywords their potential customers are already typing into Google. 8. Help them improve their star-rating on the the social media platforms by showing them how to get their customers to post reviews (Reputation Management) You see as a marketer this is how I think and what I’m currently doing for restaurants. Most brick and mortar businesses have no idea how to do these things. The restaurants who learn how to pivot will be like Netflix within the restaurant industry and those that don’t will be the Blockbusters of 2020. This is not exactly the same type of piggy backing that Shane was talking about but in a lot of ways it is because I’m leveraging a lot of software that already exists to help solve several problems that restaurants are having. There are so many businesses that are booming right now so don’t be deceived into the thinking that everyone is suffering. Here are a few other verticals for your consideration. Consumer lending - secured and unsecured Business lending Online learning especially coaches and consultants with high ticket offers Debt help/consolidation Solar Panels SAAS companies with recurring billing Mobile phone switch/change plans Companies that buy other companies Cyber security Anything insurance related Super fast broadband or cable You are the man Shane. Thanks again for inviting us to see the glass as half full instead of half empty.
Great stuff, man! Thanks for sharing. I love your example with the restaurants. It's a great example of thinking beyond (way beyond) the obvious, surface level solution.
Thanks Shane! Really cleared my head. I’m a Scrum coach/manager and I’ve been scratching my head thinking “okay, now what do we do?” But I have had to manage remote teams for the past 4 years so I guess that’s the book/course I need to make right now. Much appreciated and much obliged!!
Thank you very much, Shane for these 3 part series. Very informative and valuable. I'm a French business coach for entrepreneurs and I help them stay organized and productive throughout tools like Trello. I'm scratching my head now to find out how I can help companies that have all their employees working from home for the first time. I will think about what you said to find oppotunities within my little universe. Thanks a lot.
Enjoy watching the new 'crisis' series, Shane. I'm just wondering about audience building in these times. I seem to remember you mentioned doing a course on that topic. :-)
I'm going to start filming for that course soon. I think we can clearly see that businesses that already have an online audience are way better off in difficult times like this, than businesses that don't. I don't know if the current situation will lead to an increase or decrease in sales of my course, but I decided to go ahead with it, because it's still an important need. Even if we get fewer customers, we want to get this course and the information into the hands of those customers.
@@ActiveGrowth Yes, as a member of YOUR audience, I can tell you that there is a huge need for that. And with my own business and products, I noticed that the only thing that makes a difference is having a devoted audience who trust and follow you. Really glad the course is in the making. Thank you.
Hi Shane, Thank you for sharing!! This was a big eye opener for me in many different ways. Off the back of this I would like to try write my first article/blog. I'm not 100% sure how it works in terms of 'Good practice'. I would like to write an article for my industry (Adventure Tourism) and would like to base it on 'Adapting to Change', I would like to refer to a few of your above mentioned points like: 'Short & Long-Runways', 'Addressing Friction' and the 2 types of change 'Crises Mode-only' & 'Longterm Change'. Please let me know if this is something I can do and how to give credit if applicable. Cheers from South-Africa Leon
Work from home is something that can be afforded only by IT companies and some section of the service industry . I don’t know why experts are having such an hangover over work from home. Manufacturing , agriculture , construction , hospitality , logistics , healthcare are some of the key industries that run an economy and can never be done from home.
I am a dental surgeon and thank you for saying this. Tele dentistry the latest fad...if u have an infection - you have to go to the dentist. End of story
Your opinion is too vague. Repetitiveness is not a bad thing, you know? If you were to expand on what you consider the speaker being, too repetitive on, then I could see giving you the benefit of the doubt. The speaker is more refreshing to listen to than most other "speakers" who just regurgitate the same content over and over. I just discovered Shane and he's a bad ass!

@@andreapisac Thats good to hear! :)
Instead of saying maybe, we should market it in an appealing way... sell it... home offices are the way to go.
It sure seems like more remote work could be good for the world...

Fantastic video. Do you do online marketing? How can I get a 30 min zoom appointment ?

Answer: Solve a problem
The speaker is too repetitive
