- A very low milage engine that I found runs very slow and smooth when you retard the timing by two teeth, That causes the exhaust valve to open a little late and close a little late but it really helps the ignition firing to be about 12 degrees before top dead center (TDC) compared to the more powerful but difficult to start 26 degrees before (TDC) per factory timing gear marks. This engine starts without a crank now because it fires later and does not want to backfire. Great little engine.
is that the original magneto. ?
As I remember it was in a tin box at a side of the valve rods
Great question. In this case, yes, this Bosch AB-33 magnito was the mag of choice for this early 20's 1 1/2 hp engine. What's neat about this one is its straight-cut gears. The 1 1/2, 3 and 6 hp engines also came with helical cut gears to reduce noise in certain quieter settings like factories and small businesses. You may have seen a dishpan engine with the enclosed electronics enclosed in the rounded tin box you mentioned.
I have been searching for a good Cam/magneto mount for mine that's all thats keeping mine from running. Unfortunately the guy I got mine from had a strap break on a milling machine and it shattered the cam/mag mount. I will find a good one eventually. Sounds amazing and is a great looking machine.
Sounds good im currently working on a throttled dishpan
Sounds good. Are you going to run it with a mag or battery and coil?
@@ironman49able ill use mag for this one my other is battery coil set up
what is this color called? Is it the same as cummins engines?
This color is a dark hunter green. The proper Fairbanks green has a little more black in it and has to be custom mixed. I'm not sure if it's the same as a Cummings engine.
This motor Is 3 hp
Hi Raul, You might be thinking this is a Model C 3 HP. They look very similar from the front but the 3 HP C has an enclosed crank case and was built later in the early 30's. The tag on this engine even says 1 1/2 HP.
Dont try to correct the owner
@@CheeseMiser agreed
@@ironman49able you are correct I have one exacatley the same 1 1/2 HP 500 R,.P.M
sir, where to buy a machine like this, I want to use it for a generator 🤔

Did you buy one?
I own the one in the video. Did you want to buy one?
@@ironman49able actually I was asking the author of the original comment if the two of you got to a deal. I'm afraid that I am not currently in the market for one of those wonderful pieces of engineering
Got it. I was not paying attention regarding who was asking the questions. No, he did not respond. I'm glad you have interest in these time honored machines. It becomes very addictive because no matter the manufacture, your always restoring history as you go!
