Exactly that’s the main problem, they think the story is the only aspect that makes Genshin Impact. Ok so why is it action rpg? Why is there combat? Why is there exploration? Why are you leveling up your characters if it’s a story game? The reason why you’re doing all these things is because there are multiple aspects that makes genshin impact an open world action RPG game. So therefore players should feel free to choose which aspects they want to focus on. If they don’t want to focus on the story they should feel free to do so. Stopping them from doing that is dumb asf.

Adding an option can make for a worse expierience. I mean players always will optimize fun out of the game, most game developers do know it. Of course, in case of Genshin, I agree there should be a skip button for non-archon quests.

There are 3 particular reason for why they will never add skip button in genshin: 1th devs are sloppy, we all know this, it's not surprising, sloth is a terrible vice; 2th they don't want old players and new players to reroll new accounts and skip everything to obtain primogems (it would be great for f2p); 3th devs want both old and new players to stay logged in as much as possible. Even if you don't spend money, you still spend time in the game and they can track it. If they demonstrate that players are constantly logged in, they receive money nonetheless. Wuthering waves already surpassed hoyo games for qol. If players wants true change, stop playing and logging in. Now they all have great alternatives.

The fact that you have to use stamina to run and climb, listening to dialogues, gatekeeping domains in different days, it forces you to log in frequently and stay longer than you need to. HSR and WUWA are better for respecting players time.

People who defend this game story are propably never played a "normal" RPG/JRPG before except dumb phone gatchas which are just lets be honest, are poorly written, mostly. It was never about the story, its about character collecting and making your wallet dry. So its somewhat understandable they glorifying Genshin's story to infinity because its little above that low bar. But if you compare it to big names in the RPG series like FF Series(especially early ones), Persona series or even western RPG like Warcraft series, its just falls really flat and boring. Sure it has interesting snippets here and there but most it is just unnervingly boring and generic yapfest. Also, one thing I learned about this community, is that never try to argue with them with logic. You can't. There are countless masterpieces out there across genres, platforms, and decades that have redefined storytelling, gameplay, and innovation. Genshin might be their favorite, and that's valid, but calling it the best without considering other titles is just narrow-minded. It's like the only game they played in their life is genshin. It’s like they picked up Genshin Impact, got hooked on it, and decided, “Yep, this is the pinnacle of gaming.” Meanwhile, there’s an entire universe of incredible games out there. Masterpieces in storytelling, world-building, gameplay mechanics, and innovation that they’ve probably never touched. Genshin being their only frame of reference is what makes their opinion so shallow. If the only thing you’ve eaten is instant ramen, you can’t go around saying it’s the best food in the world.

the only reason why this game or Star Rail will never have a skip button even when players have been begging for over 4 years is not because the Devs want you to read their crappy story. Its main purpose is to hide the fact that their games is NOT BEGINNERS/F2P FRIENDLY !!! Why is that the case? Imagine you’re a latecomer who starts playing the game around version 3.0 or 4.0, skipping most of the previous content. Those skipped contents grant a tremendous amount of EXP, which significantly boosts your (TL) or World Level (WL). Unlike early players, latecomers don’t have standby or filler patches - they don’t have to wait for new content to release, so if someone rushes through the game, they can consume 3-4 years’ worth of content in just 2-3months. This rapid progression creates a difficult situation: their World Level increases, making overworld mobs and bosses more challenging, but their overall team strength remains stagnant. Not to mention their resource being depleted too fast (Exp books, talent materials, resins,...etc) New accounts typically only have a few standard banner characters and perhaps 1-2 limited banner characters at the time of progression, and they are no where near built. And certain bosses and content feel impossible without specific limited-banner characters (e.g., good luck fighting Raiden Shogun or Scaramouche without Zhongli and Barbara being your only healer, also you might not get a Bennett because it not his banner yet). This is because Genshin bosses are designed with corresponding limited-banner characters as the story progresses. While1.0 players might not have issues, it is a total nightmares for latecomers. Not putting skip buttons means to slows down latecomers, keeping them aligned with the game's pacing and forcing them to pull for new characters in order to progress. It’s clear that MiHoYo prioritizes this design choice over alleviating the struggles of newcomers. While you can reduce your World Level in Genshin, it only available after you reach WLv 5 and limited to one level and barely enough, and in Honkai Star Rail (HSR), you can’t even do that. You don't get stronger base on the hours you have put in the games, you get stronger base on how many days you loggin. That is why latecomers struggle, while oldbies found it to be "sKiLL iSsUe" further defending the game. Ultimately, MiHoYo seems more concerned about avoiding blame for creating a "pay-to-win" experience than ensuring latecomer accessibility. That is why I would never recommend anyone in 2025 to play either HSR or Genshin

Especially for the silent stories, yes they need it. I also feel like if you believe the story is good, then they should be confident enough to have a skip button. It's an option, after all. Wuwa has a skip button, but I NEVER use it on main story stuff because I'm invested. It's that simple.

I skip the story, so I can grind earlier and enjoy the story at my own pace. The fact that Nikke has an archive to replay previous story chapters at anytime is huge for anyone who wants to revise the previous chapters to study the lore, or those who want to rush to complete the latest chapters and enjoy the story when they have free time on their hands.
Not to mention, it’s a gotcha game. Gotcha games are known to have not so great stories anyway and every single gotcha game has skip button even the old ones most people don’t read the story. There has only been two nations with real narrative-driven gameplay, Sumeru and Fontaine. Everything else was either combat or a minigame and in both nations the narrative-driven gameplay is only present in the Archon quests. For people to state that Genshin Impact is a narrative-driven game are inherently being disingenuous due to the fact that 70%+ of the game is tailor made for exploration and combat. One quick google search will show them that the game is in-fact an open-world action RPG, which was defined by a Genshin Impact product manager of the name Jason Chaung.
Here is the thing. With Skip button, there is a higher chance of me NOT skipping stories, because I know I'm not FORCED to sit trough. But when you show it down my throat, all I'm doing is spamming space bar to get me out of here if I'm not interested and there is no safety net.
Guys, never forget that last year during a livestream for a new version, they spent at least 10-15 mins bragging about how many words they put in the game. How many words in dialogue for the story, how many words all the NPCs say in the open world, how many words they put into documents you find, artifact and weapon descriptions. They legit patted themselves on the back for it. They will never add a skip button bc they want to force you to go through all of it as much as possible even though no one asked for it.

There is no real argument from either side to "should" they add one. If they add one and everyone skips, are people getting fired? How does it affect them? It affects those writing it. The real answer is if it benefits hoyo. They can't have negative controversy on generally anything, so disliking the story would be one of those things they have to deny.
Reminder that the people writing it are already getting paid post production and other games which also have a skip button, still have writers 🤗 The only reason they drag players through the stupid story is because the rewards are shit and world & main quests are a way of getting rewards. As someone who do play Genshin, they should have a skip button I like Genshin story but sometimes I don’t feel like dealing with some random MPC that I’m only going to see them like once so in my opinion they should add it we got reverse 1999 and Wuwa and those games have skip button you know how useful that skip button that skip button have saved me so much time. Wouldn't a skip button also kinda pressure the game to present it's story better; at least if they are passionate about it. With the knowledge that a player could just skip at any moment, I'd feel a little pressure to always present things in a captivating way so people DON'T press skip. Sure there'll always be people who you can't get to stick around no matter how or what you do, but that isn't going to be the majority.
Option 1: Make the story pacing more concise and less yapping if you want to bypass skip button requirement. Option 2: Leave the dialog as is but have a summary button for us busy people to just get the point of the conversation.

I have friends who are both casual at gachas and hardcore gacha addicts. They refused to touch Genshin, one of the main reasons because of the lack of skip button. I'm sorry but I am not going to sit here for 5-7 hours of hearing Paimon and NPCs yap my ears off.
If genshit was about the story....why are players to go through sub secondary quests to unlock the main arch? Rethorical question, Hoyo doesn't even know how to write a story, like ALL gacha game companies. On side note, i wanted to play the second part of Fontaine archon quest, but some secondary BS quest activated while literally getting to the meeting point, Asta, sorry "Charlotte" started rambling and i could not do anything....so i've launched the task manager, quit the game and then unistalled it. Then unistalled HSR in quick succession, never looked back.

This has been a debate as long as time itself... they'll probably never add a skip button, and it friggin' annoys me to no end. I don't care about the story at all, not even the Archon quests. I only play for the gameplay, combat, building my characters, exploration, etc... Non skippable dialogue/story is the reason why I quit the game originally, and will probably be the reason I quit again whenever I do so.

Skip button is just optional up to the person if they want to press it. Example is ZZZ just to stick with Hoyoverse games. It has a Skip button but does it ruin the story experience? For me not at all heck it just let me speed through the content and get straight to the good part. Also if the story is interesting I won't be pressing Skip button at all.
I advocate for a skip button but only for world quests and minor events. Locking necessary exploration through hours of dialogue is hell. Especially on a new account. Not to mention the overworld missions that usually follow. Skip button for Exploration locks and events? Absolutely. Archon Quests? No.
Honestly, GI really has bloated dialogues, you can count how many times they explain to you about the info a few times, when we get to a new region, infodump, another region, infodump. Why not actually "show" that this is a region has this and that. Also, why does an NPC have to explain everything? As if their purpose was to just infodump it to you? Makes the world feel scripted.. Thats not how real people introduce you to a new place or to a tourist... Well I get it, I know they want to make these NPCs as a tour guide. Why not... Put one of the playable characters as a tour guide for the cities? Then make the actual in game characters have subtle movements (body language) to actually make that dialogue feel more alive? Maybe even get the lip sync actually syncs to the language they speak? The only lip sync Im seeing is CN, maybe use that tech from HSR and put it in GI. They... Have soooo much time to get this done, but no, unlike Hi3, they dont actually do these changes to probably their most profitable game ever? Weird. The recent engine upgrade was because of visual changes and new traverse mechanics only? Even weird, why do I even waste my time playing for 4 years when I have a game that does ALL of this in a few months? And no, the Unity engine is no excuse, if they could do part 2 for Hi3 look and plays much differently than Part 1, they should not have any excuse whatsoever. Yes it consumes millions but why do all these changes in one period? Do it incrementally, its much more efficient. Just like Kuro did with WuWa and PGR.

I play Genshin, but this is why I tend to avoid being good friends with ppl on that game. You have multiple groups - The Know it Alls that gets mad at you for not knowing something (they are usually the ones who would debate a skip button as well), the weirdos/freaks/deep anime fans (Scara step on me), and The Gen Z/Woke/LBGQT (I’m Gen Z btw) group. I have nothing against the Gen Z/Woke/LBGQT group. The problem is whenever I meet one, I can never just say “I don’t believe what you believe in, but I acknowledge what you believe in” without them trying to argue with me to force me to believe what they believe in. I’m not saying all players in that group are like this, but I meet a lot that gets offended at me for believing something different. Anyway, should be no debate about this. Why are you leveling up your characters if it’s a story game? There are 3 particular reason for why they will never add skip button in genshin:
1th devs are sloppy, we all know this, it's not surprising, sloth is a terrible vice;
2th they don't want old players and new players to reroll new accounts and skip everything to obtain primogems (it would be great for f2p);
3th devs want both old and new players to stay logged in as much as possible. Even if you don't spend money, you still spend time in the game and they can track it. If they demonstrate that players are constantly logged in, they receive money nonetheless.
Wuthering waves already surpassed hoyo games for qol.
If players wants true change, stop playing and logging in. Now they all have great alternatives.

The fact that you have to use stamina to run and climb, listening to dialogues, gatekeeping domains in different days, it forces you to log in frequently and stay longer than you need to. HSR and WUWA are better for respecting players time.

It was never about the story, its about character collecting and making your wallet dry. So its somewhat understandable they glorifying Genshin's story to infinity because its little above that low bar. But if you compare it to big names in the RPG series like FF Series(especially early ones), Persona series or even western RPG like Warcraft series, its just falls really flat and boring. Sure it has interesting snippets here and there but most it is just unnervingly boring and generic yapfest.

There are countless masterpieces out there across genres, platforms, and decades that have redefined storytelling, gameplay, and innovation. Genshin might be their favorite, and that's valid, but calling it the best without considering other titles is just narrow-minded. It's like the only game they played in their life is genshin. It’s like they picked up Genshin Impact, got hooked on it, and decided, “Yep, this is the pinnacle of gaming.” Meanwhile, there’s an entire universe of incredible games out there. Masterpieces in storytelling, world-building, gameplay mechanics, and innovation that they’ve probably never touched.
Genshin being their only frame of reference is what makes their opinion so shallow. If the only thing you’ve eaten is instant ramen, you can’t go around saying it’s the best food in the world.

the only reason why this game or Star Rail will never have a skip button even when players have been begging for over 4 years is not because the Devs want you to read their crappy story.
Its main purpose is to hide the fact that their games is NOT BEGINNERS/F2P FRIENDLY !!!
Why is that the case? Imagine you’re a latecomer who starts playing the game around version 3.0 or 4.0, skipping most of the previous content. Those skipped contents grant a tremendous amount of EXP, which significantly boosts your (TL) or World Level (WL).
Unlike early players, latecomers don’t have standby or filler patches - they don’t have to wait for new content to release, so if someone rushes through the game, they can consume 3-4 years’ worth of content in just 2-3months. This rapid progression creates a difficult situation: their World Level increases, making overworld mobs and bosses more challenging, but their overall team strength remains stagnant. Not to mention their resource being depleted too fast (Exp books, talent materials, resins,...etc)
New accounts typically only have a few standard banner characters and perhaps 1-2 limited banner characters at the time of progression, and they are no where near built. And certain bosses and content feel impossible without specific limited-banner characters (e.g., good luck fighting Raiden Shogun or Scaramouche without Zhongli and Barbara being your only healer, also you might not get a Bennett because it not his banner yet). This is because Genshin bosses are designed with corresponding limited-banner characters as the story progresses. While1.0 players might not have issues, it is a total nightmares for latecomers.
Not putting skip buttons means to slows down latecomers, keeping them aligned with the game's pacing and forcing them to pull for new characters in order to progress. It’s clear that MiHoYo prioritizes this design choice over alleviating the struggles of newcomers. While you can reduce your World Level in Genshin, it only available after you reach WLv 5 and limited to one level and barely enough, and in Honkai Star Rail (HSR), you can’t even do that.
You don't get stronger base on the hours you have put in the games, you get stronger base on how many days you loggin. That is why latecomers struggle, while oldbies found it to be "sKiLL iSsUe" further defending the game.
Ultimately, MiHoYo seems more concerned about avoiding blame for creating a "pay-to-win" experience than ensuring latecomer accessibility. That is why I would never recommend anyone in 2025 to play either HSR or Genshin

after playing fucking infinity nikki genshins problems feel even worse. why do we have to wait so long to skip past one part of dialogue in genshin? in infinity nikki you still have to spam but even on voiced lines you can skip so quick it makes me shed a tear. i didnt come for yap, i came to enjoy the beautiful world like cmon.

I appreciate the story, but I absolutely despise the god-awful story *telling* when a simple dialogue takes half an hour instead of 2 minutes due to unnecessary yapping and childish antics.

Wuwa has a skip button, but I NEVER use it on main story stuff because I'm invested. It's that simple.

The fact that Nikke has an archive to replay previous story chapters at anytime is huge for anyone who wants to revise the previous chapters to study the lore, or those who want to rush to complete the latest chapters and enjoy the story when they have free time on their hands.

Not to mention, it’s a gotcha game. Gotcha games are known to have not so great stories anyway and every single gotcha game has skip button even the old ones most people don’t read the story. They wanna just skip and build their characters and enjoy exploration. It’s fine if you want to enjoy the story, but a lot of other people do not
There has only been two nations with real narrative-driven gameplay, Sumeru and Fontaine. Everything else was either combat or a minigame and in both nations the narrative-driven gameplay is only present in the Archon quests. For people to state that Genshin Impact is a narrative-driven game are inherently being disingenuous due to the fact that 70%+ of the game is tailor made for exploration and combat. One quick google search will show them that the game is in-fact an open-world action RPG, which was defined by a Genshin Impact product manager of the name Jason Chaung.
Here is the thing. With Skip button, there is a higher chance of me NOT skipping stories, because I know I'm not FORCED to sit trough. But when you show it down my throat, all I'm doing is spamming space bar to get me out of here if I'm not interested and there is no safety net.

Guys, never forget that last year during a livestream for a new version, they spent at least 10-15 mins bragging about how many words they put in the game. How many words in dialogue for the story, how many words all the NPCs say in the open world, how many words they put into documents you find, artifact and weapon descriptions. They legit patted themselves on the back for it. They will never add a skip button bc they want to force you to go through all of it as much as possible even though no one asked for it.

No skip button for GI means player retention even just by idling thru the story is what Hoyo wants... it's a good dopamine hit for their analytics, stats showing the number of concurrents in their backend. Oh, and probably mine data from us player. Just my two cents.
There is no real argument from either side to "should" they add one. If they add one and everyone skips, are people getting fired? How does it affect them? It affects those writing it. The real answer is if it benefits hoyo. They can't have negative controversy on generally anything, so disliking the story would be one of those things they have to deny.
Reminder that the people writing it are already getting paid post production and other games which also have a skip button, still have writers 🤗
The only reason they drag players through the stupid story is because the rewards are shit and world & main quests are a way of getting rewards. They don't want us to speed through that and get the five star, they want us to spend because the slowness of the quest progression elicits FOMO and desperation.

As someone who do play Genshin, they should have a skip button I like Genshin story but sometimes I don’t feel like dealing with some random MPC that I’m only going to see them like once so in my opinion they should add it we got reverse 1999 and Wuwa and those games have skip button you know how useful that skip button that skip button have saved me so much time.

Wouldn't a skip button also kinda pressure the game to present it's story better; at least if they are passionate about it. With the knowledge that a player could just skip at any moment, I'd feel a little pressure to always present things in a captivating way so people DON'T press skip. Sure there'll always be people who you can't get to stick around no matter how or what you do, but that isn't going to be the majority.

I have friends who are both casual at gachas and hardcore gacha addicts. They refused to touch Genshin, one of the main reasons because of the lack of skip button. I'm sorry but I am not going to sit here for 5-7 hours of hearing Paimon and NPCs yap my ears off.
If genshit was about the story....why are players to go through sub secondary quests to unlock the main arch? Rethorical question, Hoyo doesn't even know how to write a story, like ALL gacha game companies. On side note, i wanted to play the second part of Fontaine archon quest, but some secondary BS quest activated while literally getting to the meeting point, Asta, sorry "Charlotte" started rambling and i could not do anything....so i've launched the task manager, quit the game and then unistalled it. Then unistalled HSR in quick succession, never looked back.
Hoyoverse on cares about making a profit off Genshin, not player convenience. Go play another game, that's fun amd preferably isn't a gacha.

Skip button is just optional up to the person if they want to press it. Example is ZZZ just to stick with Hoyoverse games. It has a Skip button but does it ruin the story experience? For me not at all heck it just let me speed through the content and get straight to the good part. Also if the story is interesting I won't be pressing Skip button at all.
I advocate for a skip button but only for world quests and minor events. Locking necessary exploration through hours of dialogue is hell. Especially on a new account. Not to mention the overworld missions that usually follow. Skip button for Exploration locks and events? Absolutely. Archon Quests? No.
Honestly, GI really has bloated dialogues, you can count how many times they explain to you about the info a few times, when we get to a new region, infodump, another region, infodump. Why not actually "show" that this is a region has this and that. Also, why does an NPC have to explain everything? As if their purpose was to just infodump it to you? Makes the world feel scripted.. Thats not how real people introduce you to a new place or to a tourist... Well I get it, I know they want to make these NPCs as a tour guide. Why not... Put one of the playable characters as a tour guide for the cities? Then make the actual in game characters have subtle movements (body language) to actually make that dialogue feel more alive? Maybe even get the lip sync actually syncs to the language they speak? The only lip sync Im seeing is CN, maybe use that tech from HSR and put it in GI. They... Have soooo much time to get this done, but no, unlike Hi3, they dont actually do these changes to probably their most profitable game ever? Weird. The recent engine upgrade was because of visual changes and new traverse mechanics only? Even weird, why do I even waste my time playing for 4 years when I have a game that does ALL of this in a few months? And no, the Unity engine is no excuse, if they could do part 2 for Hi3 look and plays much differently than Part 1, they should not have any excuse whatsoever. Yes it consumes millions but why do all these changes in one period? Do it incrementally, its much more efficient. Just like Kuro did with WuWa and PGR.

This literally didn't prove anything at all, instead you pretty much countered your own argument. The lack of a skip button clearly hasn’t stopped people from making wild, nonsensical takes about the story. The argument that a skip button would somehow “make the story worse” or “cause more misunderstandings” is completely invalid when people are already misunderstanding the story as is.
Whether someone skips dialogue or sits through every line, if they’re determined to misinterpret the story, they will. The presence or absence of a skip button won’t change that. Some people just don’t pay attention, have poor comprehension, or prefer to create their own headcanon. That’s a player issue, not a game design issue.
If anything, forcing players to sit through cutscenes they don’t care about only breeds frustration and makes them less likely to engage with the story at all. A skip button wouldn’t affect those who genuinely want to enjoy the narrative, it would simply give others the freedom to play the game the way they want without being held hostage by dialogue.

I play Genshin, but this is why I tend to avoid being good friends with ppl on that game. You have multiple groups - The Know it Alls that gets mad at you for not knowing something (they are usually the ones who would debate a skip button as well), the weirdos/freaks/deep anime fans (Scara step on me), and The Gen Z/Woke/LBGQT (I’m Gen Z btw) group. I have nothing against the Gen Z/Woke/LBGQT group. The problem is whenever I meet one, I can never just say “I don’t believe what you believe in, but I acknowledge what you believe in” without them trying to argue with me to force me to believe what they believe in. I’m not saying all players in that group are like this, but I meet a lot that gets offended at me for believing something different. Anyway, should be no debate about this. If people don’t like having a skip button, just simply not use the skip button.
