This is not to be confused with the Hobbyzone Super Cub. These planes are completely different animals.
Back country airstrips, remote mountain lakes, alpine glider ports -- wherever adventure requires wings, chances are the Piper Super Cub is there. Introduced in 1949, its rugged construction, impressive payload and marvelous short-field performance quickly made it a mainstay of the bush flying fleet. Even now, over half a century later, it remains the plane of choice for many who follow the road less traveled.
This beautiful, 1/4-scale ARF of the Super Cub has been expertly modeled in stunning detail. Almost every line and curve mirror the real thing, right down to the shape of the fillet where the fuselage meets the vertical stab. Other scale touches include functional bungee-type landing gear, a realistic instrument panel and a full-body pilot figure.
This same attention to detail has been applied to the flight performance. Like the full-scale version, the model has functional flaps that give it amazing short-field takeoff and landing abilities. It also possesses the same easy-going flight characteristics, but will eagerly perform sport aerobatics using any of the recommended power choices.
The 1/4-scale PA-18 Super Cub is a fantastic flying airplane that replicates the scale looks of the famous Piper PA-18 that can be used for several purposes from float flying to towing and even being a scale model that will stand out at any field.
I feel privileged that I was about to see this 1/4-Scale PA-18 Super Cub ARF by Hangar 9 fly in person. What a sweet 1/4 Scale RC Plane!
Note:This is clearly not the Hobbyzone Mini Super Cub, so I hope none of you confuse this plane for that one.

    GBLynden's RC
To me the profile of a cub in the sky is one of the most beautiful things the eyes can admire. I use to sit at the airport for hours waiting for a local J3 to return to base just to watch it do downwind, base, final and land. Even the taxi in to park was a thing of beauty to me. I wanted to fly a cub so bad I could taste it. I did not know how I would ever afford a cub. But soon I had Devine intervention and an idea was born. Soon I had a paid for J3 without my household monthly budget changing one cent and no loss of cash on hand. I only had five years left on a seven year mortgage, so I refinanced to 12 years, had the same monthly house payment but netted $4,800 to buy my first of many Cubs for $4,500 back in 1977. The rest of the money went to flying lessons at $10 an hour and aviation gas at 79 cents a gallon or $3.00 per hour at 3.8 gallons per hour. Those were the days and I spent many hours enjoying that cub on lazy afternoons and late evenings. So you can see why I still love seeing the shape of a J3 Cub against the sky. Happy flying!

Very nice looking cub and some nice flying! A bit out of scale but what the heck sometimes it’s just fun too ripe up the sky a bit.
I just picked up a 12 year old 110 inch wing span 1/4 scale yellow cub with a 26cc single gasoline engine spinning an 18-8 prop.
I’ve had it running but won’t be flying it until the spring. Purchased from the master scratch builder who made it. He is 90 now and has just packed in Flying RC. I hope I can still be flying into my 80s and beyond.

G'day that flying was very realistic it's a beautiful plane and really looks great in the air. Who ever did the filming did a very good job it's not easy to keep the plane focused and no shaking. I used to fly RC when I was 16 and built a 172 Cessna with a 8ft wing span but I haven't flown for years I am now 60 and suffer with RA however I still love watching them. Kind regards John Tasmania Australia

This is the plane I was telling you about, it really is beautiful. when I pulled it out of the box I was surprised at how scale it is. Mine is this same plane just in the blue trim instead of red. I still need to get the engine and the electronics. I'm thinking about doing the lights also to make it really scale looking.

K.G. RC I didn't realize you had already purchased it. Which engine are you going with? I've thought about getting the PNP version with the Evolution 33gx. All it needs is a receiver. I was looking at that new Great Planes Citabria, but they say the landing gear and firewall are problematic.

    • @Kane_Grove
      @Kane_Grove 10 років тому

No worries, I'm going with the evo 33 also I seen the video with the 33 and it flew pretty well. You should get one as well, it would be pretty cool with two giants flying at the same time. It really is a nice one.

I just picked up one of these never flown for $50. Making it 10 cell electric and hope to get it flying by next weekend. A few critical parts haven't shown up in time for this weekend to maiden. Included soft 3 inch Dubro tires to hopefully smooth out the landings. Video will be posted when it happens come good or bad lmao.

@@GBLynden I bought one three months ago from a friend of mine. He was selling it at $250.00. Brand new. I just waited till he came to me and said I could have it at $150.00 so I got it. I check on line and it was selling for around $600.00. I guess I got a deal. It is ready to fly but got to wait till spring. Running a G26 in it. Runs good but need to wait. I live in Mn. so it be winter now. All I can really say about it is it has to much white to it. Added some black to be able to see it better. I'm looking for a cowl for it due I missed up on chopping it up alot for the engine. But it will be ok if you look at it sideways. I hope you had good flying with it.

+GBlynden Just A pointer on your ground operation of all tail dragged airplanes. when you apply power to taxi, pull back on your Elevator stick, and the tail will stay planted firmly on the ground. This will prevent Power On Nose Overs. It can Happen On The Real Cubs, or any Tail dragged airplanes whether full sized, or RC models. I hope this helps. It Helped me, and Since I zlearned It, I have saved a small fortune on props.

I was anticipating seeing the slip and then disappointment! love cubs and this one is unique and beautiful! also if you like this plane you'd love the christen husky! I had the 106 in span looked so real when it was at about 200 feet with about 1/3 throttle! anyways enjoy and next time pull that slip from your bag of pilot skills and give us something to talk about lol

You almost ended up removing your own kneecaps. Don't you have the restraint rule at your club ? Once saw a guy lose most fingers on one hand because for a second he somehow forgot the engine was running and moved his hand to adjust the mixture needle. Ouch. Lovely aircraft. @mozzmann 9 років тому +2

loosen the prob and looking from the front rotate the Blade so that it is at around 3 to 3:30 when held on the compression, so your flipping the prop up and away and not across and down as was the case in this vid, you'll get more power in the flick and less likely hood of copping a blade across the back of the hand.

Someone told me it was a 40 size airplane that I have it's impossible it's way too big for a 40 size engine a 40 size engine would just drag it across the ground that would be at if that

Nice Cub. Not to be too critical but you made no effort to fly it scale. A cub is not the space shuttle. Full scale J3 Cubs climb at 400 fpm max which equates to 100 feet high in 60 seconds for 1/4 scale. A Super Cub manages 1,000 fpm or 250 fpm in 1/4 scale. You were flying practically straight up after take off at times. Why not fly a Pitts if you enjoy flying in that manner. I have owned many full scale J3 Cubs over the years including a 90hp clipped wing and know from where I speak. Before flying full scale I flew Andrew's Aeromasters with R/C and Enya or Super Tigre .60s. There is a lot of pleasure mastering scale flying techniques. Yes, I understand that airspeed dynamics for models are different than full scale. Real cubs cruise @ 60 to 115 mph so I know 1/4 scale cannot slow down to 15 mph but you want to fly as slow as reasonably possible for scale effect. Happy Flying!

I appreciate the spirit of your comment. The way I fly generally reflects that, but the pilot Jeff featured in this just wanted to have fun tearing around on a nice summer evening. Sometimes he flew it scale, but it really depended on his mood.

      GBLynden's RC
I see, that makes total sense. Happy flying!

rich r I am not sure why he didn't have one, but he did say this motor for some reason is way harder to start than his others. I go electric so I don't have to deal with this sort of hassle.
