Many of Van's songs (his best?) create a trance-like mood. His amazing voice, just another instrument, floating in an out of the incredible mix of the sounds of the other instruments. While his lyrics can play a huge part of the song, they aren't always necessary for me to understand in order to completely get wrapped up in the music.

I as a kid I thought Van was a black man. Mom played the heck out of him growing up starting my love for him. So soulful and honest and I was floored to find out he's white and with red hair. only other mistake was with Stevie Ray Vaughn, who I thought was also black. They are(were)the darkest white guys in music

No flute anywhere on the album.. There is an oboe and some flugelhorn although it doesn’t specify which tracks.. That’s his daughter singing backup at the end of the song… That’s a great track.. I’ve never heard it before…
This was a new Van song for me. Started out thinking it wasn’t one of his best, but it grew on me greatly by the end. Still think he might have John Lee Hookered a bit too much towards the end. 😉

Sounds like a penny whistle commenting throughout the track. There’s flugelhorn at the top, for sure.
