Aaron Mills is an amazingly gifted and versatile bassist with serious chops!!!
@@edennard1 Being that he studied with Donald Byrd, that is very believable.
One of the true Funk Masters on the Bass..
THIS MAY NOT MEAN MUCH TO YOU BUT IT DOES TO ME.I LOVE HOW AARON PUTS GOD IN SO MUCH OF HIMSELF.HE'S NOT AFRAID TO PRAISE GOD AND THAT'S A GREAT GREAT WAY TO BE.
Great interview Aaron, I grew up enjoying your music, it's good to see your still on your game, God bless and keep you strong.
I’ll never forget meeting Aaron at guitar center in Hollywood Ca in 1980.... great bass player and a big influence !
Thank You Aaron!!! You were the First Bass Master I was exposed to in 1981. I was 18 and got to watch You every night because I was working for Roger & Zapp when they were on shows with Cameo.
That's something I wish I could have witnessed...I probably would have lost my mind. He's my FAVORITE Bassist. He's something really special. I'm GLAD he REALLY got to do what he was born to do on a large and professional scale. For ME, he set the bar HIGH.
Mr Mills is one of MANY underarated Bass players in Funk groups...🤘🤘🤘
Great message Aaron. Very inspiring for me as I’m just learning the Bass at 62. 😂
Never met him but he seems like a real home boy. His spirit is a genuine as his playing
Donnie Simpson's Unsung forgot all about Cameo and Slave!!! I was waitin' for it but nothin'.....they started doing groups that only had one or two hits! If any groups were Unsung it was Cameo and Slave......funny thang is you can't really find any concert footage of them during their hay day! Trust me I've been lookin' for 25 years easy....nothin'! Love this interview.
You can’t count Cameo as “unsung” which is why they don’t have an episode. Their hits reached outside the black community, therefore I don’t see them as unsung. I was surprised the O’Jays had an episode.
Heatwave had an unsung episode and Ohio players too. Both bands way far past being unsung .
Thank You for this....Aaron Mills🎸🎶🎼🎤
Aaron Mills..a true bassist legend
Mr Aaron Mills is not only a GREAT Bass player buut a GREAT perfomer...Since the late 70's ive seen CAMEO @ least 8 or 9 times an Aaron is always HIGH ENERGY and plays that bass like a MONSTER...
🤘🤘🤘
(Thx for sharing)
One of the most Underrated players.. PERIOD...
❤An Excellent MENTOR You Are My BROTHER!!! Fellow Bassist: Willie "Da'-BIZ" McNair ™
He's got the best bass sound I've ever heard, featured on Ms. Jackson by Outkast. That bass is the best damn bass tone I've ever heard. Funkiest, meanest, most tasteful sounding bassline to me personally. Not just the sound, but the way he played. Tasteful. Didn't play when he didn't need to. That made the most of every note. Hits you like a freight train full of bricks. I think the bass was a Spector NS-5XL, but if someone knows better, please correct me
Aaron, great interview! Keep doin what you do!
Thank you Funk Music Hall of Fame. Love the Interview with Aaron Mills from Cameo really injoy it. I am a long time oldSchool funk Music fan!
One of my favorite bass players ,your bass playing is what drew me to cameo. Which is my number one funk band. Keep it going I also play bass love the instrument seem to be a well rounded person be blessed. Keep the funk alive.
Out of all the major Funk Bands I think Cameo has always been the most musically exact. The tightest. #FLIRT
I love Funk Music H y'all rock great great stories it brings tears to my eyes 4real
Good interview with the funkmaster Aaron Mills
Very Funky Bass Player...He Puts The Bottom On The Cameo Funk...One Of The Top Funk Rhythm Bassist Of All Time...CAMEO Funk Hits Hard From The Bottom Up...
One of the top?
In my book, Aaron Mills is...
The Greatest Bassist Of All Time.
@@gloriawilson4325 🤔 Larry Graham, Marvin Isley, Marcus Miller, Bootsy Collins, Mark Adams (Slave), Louis “thunder thumbs” Johnson, Nathan Watts (Stevie Wonder’s bassist)
Cameo is one of my favorite funk bands.
A couple years ago I randomly heard the song "talking in Your Sleep" By the romantics. The bassline sounds very similar to the Word Up bassline. I love hearing funk interpolation in songs, similarities between genres, or inspirations for amazing songs, hooks, basslines.
This is an excellent interview by on of my favorite bassist.
Great interview. Thanks for the shout out. Word Up.
LOVE AARON MILLS VERY VERY TALENTED BASSIST
What a musician and proud that you are from NC have not seen you perform in person but I am waiting to be blessed my friend ❤
I really enjoyed this interview with the funk master bassist Aaron Mills !! I miss bands like Cameo with raw talent and brotherly love !! 🤩👑😍❤️✊🏽
not takin away anything from the dudes on the first 3 Cameo albums, but Cameo really came into their sound when Aaron joined the band! That jam, I Just Want To Be, on his first album with Cameo was the bomb! Those first 5 albums with Aaron's unbelieveable funky Bass lines were the best Cameo albums ever! I saw Cameo open for The Gap Band in 1981 and they SMOKED The Gap Band!!!
My True Brother, Great Humble Friend, Who’s Still One Of The Funkiest Brotha’s Alive!!!
Thank you so much for that great interview. You will alway's be my favorite Bass Player. You are the best.
Aaron MILLS MY BIG BRO,AND FRIEND
Rhine I love you !!! Keep up the good work !!!

Incredible musician.
Bass man mr. Mills. You guys had Funk that cant be touched. The tightest group ever.
Great interview ! Very well done Aaron .
Aaron Mills is the best funk bass player in my opinion he never got his props as others did in that day.
Great interview Aaron Mills... I've been playing your basslines for years..
Great interview. Would love to get one of those Basses. Have to say that the MCB LP is one great album and sort of rare these days but I got mine and it's a keeper/classic.
Mills is an inspiration. Thank you
He studied with Donald Byrd???? WOW! No wonder he's so skilled!
Amazing, i know. I've been watching some young players (14 years and under) playing funk. Truly happy to see that happen. I always wondered WHEN.
Fellow NCCU Eagle! Great interview.
Aaron Mills is an incredibly talented and humble musician.
😢sad this brother is not mentioned in the same breath,as Larry graham, mark Adams of slave, bootsy Collins, Marcus Miller, this brother is right along side these cats,a G.O.A.T.bassist ARRON MILLS FUNK personified love your work brother 😅 !
Moment Aaron Mills joined Cameo, THAT'S when they just "clicked" for me! Still Top 5 on my personal list of funk bassists, those 'Cameosis', 'Feel Me', and 'Knights Of The Sound Table' albums all remain fresh to this day in large part because of his rapport with bandleader Larry (Blackmon), who was one heck of a drummer in his heyday. Didn't know OutKast hired him out to do work for them, but I can't blame 'em for that. After all, you can only milk a sample for so long...
;-p
I grew up on cameo. My uncle lummie yousta jam cameo. Yousta Love this growing up in the 80s
Many groups had bassist that didn’t get the recognition they should’ve! SOS band-John Simpson,Lakeside Bassist-Marvin Craig,Brick-Tres Gilbert. All had original great bass lines!
He is badd ass bass player!!
"On The One"☝️ since 1975 when I only was 9 y.o.
My mom's name is Ruth too brother. May your mother Rest In Peace brother.
One cold blooded bass playa!!!
Excellent interview Rhine with your school teacher sexy self.
Outstanding interview and great insights!
I wish I would’ve been old enough to attend the Budweiser Superfest concerts. They would always have the most amazing lineups
Not the entire CD Aaron but the entire LP!!! Vinyl is back!!!
In my opinion the MCB LP is Aaron's best piece of work. It's truly mind blowing from start to finish
My man.
Awesome musician! @ Steven Todd Scorpio Music
Aaron Mills.🎉.
31:59 Prototype has got to be my no. 1 all time favorite bassline. If you haven't heard it pause the video right now and go find it. Absolutely incredible.
One of my heroes on the bass! Marcus Miller is my top bassists!
There are only 3...Aaron Mills, Marcus Miller and Marvin Craig. I love Aaron 💙
@@gloriawilson4325 Louis Johnson, Larry graham, Bernard Edwards , Mark Adams 🎶I hear u though

#LongLiveAaronMills
#LongLiveCameo
I still play tracks from the M C B release. Aaron has some funky stuff on it!
Underrated😎🎸
Question....was aarron mills the voice on the cameo slow jams like..i care for you...feel me...i never knew....cameos albums listed credits but I could never match up the face with that voice..i know Wayne Cooper voice and Larry blackmans as well. Tomi Jenkins also..but I could never figure out which member sang those particular songs...i know aarron did vocals also...to me those songs were some of the best slow jams ever..still playing them..i know Charlie singletons came later.but Ijust wanna know if Aaron was blowing like that...if you guys don't know these songs..go back and listen to your love takes me out..thats the same voice on those particular slow jams...bad ass...your a bad man...much respect.
Spector player 😎
Aaron wasn't the bassist(82-86) on Cameo's biggest hits, it was Michael Burnett ( Candy, She's Strange, Word up, Flirt, etc. Surprised Aaron didn't mentioned him.
@DeeNice681 yeah, word up and she's strange might have been commercial hits but nothing can touch the old bass heavy Cameo. Shake you pants, your love take me out. That's the real cameo not the 80s version. Machismo was the closest they ever got to the old sound.
HOW THE FUNK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD IS FIGHTING TO KEEP ITS LEGACY ALIVE IN DAYTON OHIO!
Stephen StarrJUN 19 2019.
When Dayton’s The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center - aka TheFunkCenter - opened in December 2017, locals delighted in it marrying a proud musical tradition with hope for the revival of a city long down on its luck. Built to celebrate the Ohio city’s reputation as ground zero of the funk world, the center drew volunteers and experts from the Netherlands, Japan and the U.K. and superstar names from Dayton’s 1970s and ’80s funk scene, who pieced together the decades-old instruments, records and memorabilia on display. Tickets to the opening ceremony sold out in days.

Interesting interview...disappointed that the interviewer chose to jump straight to 'Word Up' I'm personally more interested in the older tunes/albums .. Cameosis, ugly ego, I just want to be, on the one, rigor mortis etc, Really loved when Aaron played 'Your a Winner' Timeless Tune...👌🏽✌🏽

You stand a better chance consumer dog or cat than a nasty hoggish swine brother. This is a true saying. Its a nasty disgusting scavenger which was not meant for human consumption. A vulture on legs. A buzzard.
My brother AARON MILLS
Aaron Mills. One of the baddest bass guitarists in the land. I learned to play bass from listening to him. Mr. Mills is one of my funk bass mentors. I had to put that out there. Thank you Sir.
