My daughter had one of those ultra cheap units you can get online. She kept telling me that her records were faulty because they wouldn't track properly. So we would try them out on my VPI turntable and they were perfectly fine. I told her the stereo she bought was a complete waste of money. So I did some looking around and bought her the very same unit you are demonstrating. When it arrived I set it up for her and was shocked at how good it sounded for what it was. For a starter the over all quality was amazing. She has had it for about a year now without any problems and is very happy.

The 2g data may refer to the AT91 or AT91R which are the same cartridge with different styli, so a replacement stylus is compatible. (the yellow and red ones respectively)

Even though I would never buy one of the newer cheap record players, I love such tests. Maybe I can still convince a friend to buy something useful. Many people find the better record players just too expensive, or they're afraid of old devices because they have no idea how to repair them when they fail.

Looks alright. I would want to upgrade that cartridge as soon as possible, probably to an AT-VM95EN or ML and then I would probably want to get some better speakers for it, a little pair of Mission or Tannoy, that sort of thing.

I don't have a strobe disc to check that, but based on comparing the playback of the record vs a digital file, if it's off, it isn't perceptible.

It’s no secret that Angels Horn sends these to UA-cam content creators in return for a good review. Otherwise, no one would have ever even heard of them.

I don't think the video makes it clear that it's sponsored. I thought it was a "we send you a unit for free, we don't get a say on the video" sort of thing, but I see that the shop is advertised in the description with a coupon code. The product looks pretty nice but $260 is a good budget, with a fair bit of competition.

They reached out and asked if I'd like to review one. I told them I would, but the review would be what it is and that it would be honest. They said fine, sent it, I made the video and posted it. They had no input into the video and I don't make anything from their links. I actually expected it to be like those cheap Crosley turntables and was surprised it wasn't. If it was junk, I would have reviewed it as such, I had nothing to gain or lose from it.

1.75g is way too light for this cartridge... Min. Should be 2.5. Most recommend 3.3 to 3.5....too light can leave it vulnerable to skipping and skating... Which can damage your records much more than any of those ceramic carts. So if you do keep it . at the very least bring it up 2.5. 3.3g seems to the sweet spot for this particular cartridge. Nice review though.... good looking system.... Reminds me alot of 1byOne's

I ended up adjusting it up to right at 3g after the test. I wasn't having any skating issues, it just felt too light to me. Unfortunately, it ended up underwater this week during a freak flood at the studio. I may need to get another one. It seemed like a nice turntable for casual use.

Devils advocate: These entry level tables often just make sound. They don't extract much dynamic range or detail. It's pretty much midrange and some midbass. Like the modern equivalent of a Fisher close n play. A cart that does anything close to hi-fi are usually $100 or more.
