    I sat down with the manager of an apt complex who helped me apply and I was on a waiting list. When it came my turn to get an available apt there, my understanding was i was supposed to get Section 8 and an apt. I was told it was sure fire and I had NOTHING to worry about. They would help me with everything.
    A little over a year later I received a "rejection" letter in the mail stating an apt had come but I was rejected for consideration because my "credit wasn't approved". Why wasn't I told about "credit"? She had to know my story. I DON'T HAVE CREDIT. I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE ANY CREDIT.
    And when someone contacted them for me to ask just what happened, it was someone new working there. The new person wanted me to come in so they could formally apologize. What good was that going to do after all this?

    Im not sure if its the same in every state BUT here in ILLINOIS, if you make LESS than $2500 a month, then you qualify for SECTION 8 HOUSING aka LOW INCOME HOUSING aka SUBSIDIZED HOUSING. SECTION 8 is not just for people from the.........." ghetto/hood ".

      Same here but a section 8 voucher for one person. Under HUD guidleines is good for about $1400.00. Meaning you will be placed in a low income area still. Which I don't see as being helpful to someone at all. You go here to see how much a section 8 voucher is good for in your area for a given family size.

    "The purpose of minimum wages is to protect workers against unduly low pay. They help ensure a just and equitable share of the fruits of progress to all, and a minimum living wage to all who are employed and in need of such protection." - International Labor Organization
    Wouldn't there be less need for Section 8 if minimum wage was actually a livable wage? So, theoretically, by having a full-time job... one would be able to support oneself without government assistance.

    • @WD-hd1vw
      @WD-hd1vw 3 роки тому

      Minimum wage should remain low to encourage people to better themselves... im not trying to be knocked back to the bottom of the income bracket when I've worked so hard to get out of it... also, what do you do about the inevitable inflation and businesses that shut down due to your "living wage"

    • @JM-yv6ol
      @JM-yv6ol 3 роки тому +1

      @@WD-hd1vw That's a "crab in a barrel" approach to thinking about the situation. As a result, the wages should also adjust. So if one is paid what minimum wage should be... they should have an increase in their wage let's say around $8. Look at the entirely picture; the cost of living has increased substantially compared to minimum wage over the years. Ask yourself if you want to bring everything up to speed or continue enlarging the poor/rich gap. Which side of the gap are you on?

    • @WD-hd1vw
      @WD-hd1vw 3 роки тому

      @@JM-yv6ol I'd say I'm right in the middle and all that would do is drag me back to the bottom that I fought and clawed myself out of... you'll never convince me to support paying burger flippers, fry droppers, and cashiers 15+ an hour... I forced myself into a skilled industry and learned a trade, and have been grinding for years to build up myself and my pay... I got no sympathy for people who want my kind of pay while not putting forth half the effort

    • @evanmaclean943
      @evanmaclean943 2 роки тому

      @@WD-hd1vw Hrmm. while the world needs all labor grades, there is truly more issues then just raising the minimum wage. in this matter i agree more with J M that a livable wage is better. But to your point, how would a small mom & Pop shop support paying someone $15 an hour. or what would happen to that $1 or $2 dollar burger everyone so loves if employees all the sudden make 40% more. The issues can't be pin pointed to one issue such as minimum wage. Lets look at housing, Rich buy housing, Rich rent housing. Poor rent because bad credit, not enough income or not enough savings. Rich raise rent (In san diego $100-200) in others lets just say 25-50. If you're making $8 an hour and you get a 2-3% pay increase (If you even get one). that's roughly $41 dollars a month (before tax). so you worked all year, potentially saving, and you may not even make more than previous year.
      Now lets talk about everything else that's increasing. To J M's point. it just hasn't caught up with current inflation prices.
      I currently live in Switzerland, Minimum wage here on average is 21CHF. yes, the person who bags your groceries, checks you out, cooks your food is making 43k a year. This is sustainable here. Housing is expensive. 1-2million per home. But Switzerland has rent control. If someone is paying more then market rent, the tenant actually has right to request rent reduction (with justification) and its the landlords responsibility to lower it.
      I'm not saying this is the answer, but homelessness is much less and government spending is much lessseparation
      Evan

    ....and here is Shawanda...she has four kids ages 1, 3, 12 and 13 with different fathers, all of whom are nowhere to be found. Shawanda doesn't work but she has a new boyfriend, Trayvon who sleeps there. Since Shawanda does not have any income and four kids, she qualifies for the rent voucher program. She uses her voucher to move out of the city and rent a small two bedroom condo in a most White subdivision in the suburbs. Since she has moved into the condo, Shawanda has received several violation letters from the subdivision HOA for violations of rules and upkeep on her place. She responded to the Board Members that, "you motherfuckers can go to Hell, dis aint my place, I dont own it so why should I take care of it." There is currently a broken down 1998 Toyota Corolla with two flat tires in her parking spot which belonged to baby daddy #3. The 12 and 13 year olds have been seen on Ring videos at 3am walking around the subdivision pulling on the handles of car doors. Auto burglaries have increased 70% since Shawanda moved into the subdivision with her voucher and Trayvon is in the process of developing a healthy drug sale business out of Shawanda's condo. Oh, and Shawanda is currently pregnant with Trayvon's baby.

      Alison Ann Ally Allen you're the first person I genuinely have respect for on here. May you continue to be blessed and be a blessing to your children. This is why I have a lack of respect for anyone that judges these programs because we have real heroes (moms holding it together for their babies) anyone who attacks and puts down women and children should be ashamed of themselves.

      I'm imagining that since your children are grown you were able to buy a house when they were much much much and let me say this one more time..much more cheaper than they are now...so was the cost of living...and I can bet this was not in New York where I'm at...have a little common sense...not everyone reading this is from your area or your time...congrats to you..take care Ms. Doitall

    This is a good program just like food stamps but like all things people take advantage should be required to do volunteer work since they can't find a job

    • @tobiwalker7145
      @tobiwalker7145 5 років тому

      Half of all voucher holders are seniors/disabled and another quarter work. Only a quarter actually stay at home, and often that's with kids. There are reasons people can't do volunteer work -- starting with not being able to get childcare or elder care, or transportation, same things that make holding a job challenging. Yes, getting a housing subsidy is like hitting the lottery, but there's no one-size-fits-all solution for the folks who luck out.

I’m a former homeowner( bought my house at 23 by myself with 3 kids)and sold when I joined the army. So, do you think I feel I’m entitled? I don’t think that I feel that way bc this program is not my permanent plan for a home.
