What a treat to go for a ride with you to town! I noticed that you still have angle parking and the main drag looks old school, I love that! My first car was a 1962 Ford Fairlane it was a 4 door red in colour and lots of chrome and it had the 260 CID V8 with the slush glide 2 Speed I put a tachometer on it and cruising 60 miles per hour it was reving at 3200 RPM and the fuel gauge could hardly keep up with the amount of gas it was pulling out of the tank 😂 But I had a question if your in over drive and you had to quickly down shift to second does it automatically shift out of overdrive faster than you can down shift? Really appreciate this video I am a Ford fan but I wanted to tell you if you don’t already know that Dennis Carpenter would possibly make a reproduction horn control I order parts from Dennis for my 8Ns they are really good to deal with 😀🇨🇦
Thanks Keith. I should have mentioned it in the video but to downshift all you have to do is punch the accelerator and then let off. It actually shifts rather quickly. Downshifting also kicks it out of overdrive. It's a very slick system and my dad claims that it was fantastic in the mountains because it worked in second gear as well. It was almost like having a splitter for a second and third. I always love the Ford Fairlanes. One of my favorite things about watching the Andy Griffith show. 3200 is is turning pretty quickly for a V8, 😄. I bought some parts from Dennis Carpenter over the years, also had good luck with autocrafters. 👍
My mother inlaw had a 1954 Plymouth hydrive clutch automatic you used the clutch to start then you drove it like automatic when I join the family in 1982 the paint was really good i buffed it out my mother inlaw told me her grandpa bought it new always garaged and he would in the fall put Vaseline over the chrome seats was like a comfortable couch my wife at time referred to the steering wheel as driving a big pizza it had a valve job in the early 80 s it sounded like a John Deere put put it sits today my brother inlaw and I used to drag it out get it running but he lost interest and I believe the rings are stuck and money is short but at one time it was daily driver
Sounds like a very unique car. You can always pull out the spark plugs and dump Marvel Mystery Oil in them. At least while it sits it can't do any harm. 👍

I was waiting to see and hear the story of this car. Since it's a family owned car no wonder its kept so well. I have worked on a 1959 Ford custom 300 so a familiar vehicle in a strange twist. Very cool car Aaron.

@@lifeafterourloss It was my friends car he had just gotten it out of the container back in 2007. The thing ran very poor cause the so called rebuild carburetor was a total scam. There where other odds and ends that needed close attention. For anyone who orders cars over seas, expect the unexpected things in the box. I believe 50s American cars where sold new in West-Europe. One assembly plant was in Antwerp Belgium(unless my memory is wrong). They ordered the cars in parts and assembled them in Europe. Not many of these actually have survived. There where many other ways how American cars ended up in Europe. I'm sure someone else is more knowledgeable than I am on this.
@@SuperMAZ007 Very interesting! I've never had good luck buying "rebuilt" carburetors. I've gotten to the point where I would rather just do it myself in most cases. I suppose ordering anything used sight unseen comes with risks. 😊
@@lifeafterourloss Truth be told my friend was very new to the American car frenzies. So he was under the assumption cause it had a Ebay rebuild carburetor from the previous owner. It had to be a good one. Other wise the car was very decent very minimal rust. Had been repainted 2 tone. The technical side was rather sketchy at best. But it's still around and now drives better than ever. Some risks do pay off later. Definitely doing your own carburetor rebuild is a good idea.

I bet that V8 runs like a champ. Are you going to keep it stock? My son was going to fix the radio what's never got around to it. He wanted to repaint it the original color.
@@lifeafterourloss Yes I am staying stock with only a few minor improvements like I installed a PCV system and removed the road tube. I paid good money for those fuel vapours in the crankcase so yeah I'm going to burn them. 😉😊. The radio won't need much just replace the electrolytic capacitors and any interstage cap that is sealed with beeswax. The vibrator will need replacement as well new a modern electronic one. Don't forget to change the vibrator buffer capacitor as the vibrators usually fail due to buffer cap failing. @@lifeafterourloss I also love inline sixes as well. I had to retire my beloved 1992 Ford F150 five speed with a 4.9 L inline six a couple of years ago just too rusty. I still miss it.😞😞 I had to take a hiatus from repairing the 53 to get some new knees and a couple of corneas. The boys will have it at my garage soon and I will be back at it. We need to finish the 84 C10 first. Too many jobs too little time🤷♂😉
@MatthewBerginGarage 😁, I know the feeling. We had a 1995 F150 with the 4.9 l. It was still running strong when we sold it at about 280,000 MI. The power assist clutch was the only thing that was a headache about that truck. Oh and the rust! I got to where I could pull the transmission and replace the clutch in just a few hours. Well if you put your family to work you should be able to get that C10 done. 😊
