I just stumbled over a wool felting video 2 weeks ago, and I'm besotted!! I never heard of this craft, and I HAVE to learn it!! How has this wonderful process been hidden from people? I have asked around to friends and they never heard of it either, and when I show some stills from your videos, they oooh and aaah. I'm astonished that people don't know about this....!!! Thank you for posting. I mean seriously....THANK YOU!!
Aw. It's a wonderful art form and I'm so glad you are loving it already. Yes do have a try! So much fun! . It is becoming more popular but you are right some people still don't know about it. Enjoy the journey! 😊
@@FittobeLovedFelts I'm getting together a materials list and trying to include what I will NEED as a beginner, and what I can live without for awhile. I'm on a short leash in my finances. The one item I know it's important not to skimp on is the felting needle thingy. " An artist is only as good as his tools" I learned that long ago. If you try to use poor quality stuff you'll get a poor result....is that right? I have sculpted with polymer clay before but this is totally different/ I'm excited! Thank you for replying just now!!
@@8journey8 Yes good needles and wool are really all you need to start plus need a base (use a cheap car sponge from cheap DIY store until you can invest in a good one). Heidifeathers is my go to for range and quality of needles and wool from world of wool. I use cheaper carded wool for the core of my pieces and then colors on top (merino tops for long fur). As starting out I'd grab some carded slivers in woodland animal colours and start off with simple animals to understand basic shapes and joining them together. lots of tutorials on my channel but also check out my website for more photo tutorials and tips on wool and tools. did you see my tools video yet? for needles I'd get a few gauges in triangle shape until you can get more variety - so 32G, 36G, 38G and 40G. that way you can start off with lower number(larger width needle) and go up to higher gauge as wool gets firmer and for adding detail. Finger protectors may be wise. I have never used them but did stab myself at the beginning. only a few times as you soon learn - just don't watch tv at same time lol!!
Hello, I was wondering if you could tell me,, Can you change the shape of the animal after it is finished and firmly woven tight? Thank you, Tammy Ayers
If you felt it very firm there won't be much give at all but if only medium firm or softer then you can bend its shape. Can add more wool to firm or cut into it when firm If correcting a mistake If needed.
