@@Cleide3326 It really is ridiculous how easy this boss fight is for a melee character. To the point that it begs the question if nobody bothered just stabbing him before. Just grab the biggest shield you have, buff your fire resistances and just go give him a prostate exam. No dodging, fancy sword arts, nothing. Don't even lock on. Stabstabstab -> cutscene -> stabstabstab
None of the other methods I saw were working after the most recent patches, especially for mage builds, but this was still really effective!! THANK YOU!!
If anyone else is having trouble with Rykard as a mage, I would do something slightly different: 1) Max out HP flasks and have only 3 FP flasks 2) Don't summon your mimic tear until the second phase, as usually it'll take massive amounts of dmg when the serpent does its spin attack in the first phase 3) For the first phase, use your Serpent-Hunter only and just get used to the timing of his attacks, they're pretty straightforward 4) Go gung-ho whenever Rykard is staggered in the second phase, as you only have so many openings to attack him then This worked for me the first time when I did these four things after mindlessly trying to replicate the video for three hours. Not criticizing the video though, it gave great insight into the rock sling stagger approach.
This is the only boss so far I’ve looked up a tutorial on how to beat and boy am I sure glad I did. I have a frost mage build and my problem was that I kept running out of blue flasks before the start of the second phase. I had no idea this weapon was so OP, or that I would even be able to wield it as a mage. Followed everything you did and I beat it in one try. Thank you!!
Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for as a mage myself. All the ones I saw before were melee fighters and I was wondering if I could have also used my staff for spells, especially ever-faithful Rock Sling which comes through for me 99.9999%. I'll be watching this again before I do this fight. Cheers.
I don't like using Rock Sling because this spell carried my ass for the whole game til I reached Mt. Gelmir-Altus Plateau, and it got tremendously boring. Well, it looks like I'll have to do it again.
I just beat this guy as a mage without using sorcery. It took me about 2 hours until I realized I could upgrade the serpent sword to 4. Had to upgrade my shield - it was a must for the ground swipe shtick that the serpent does. Wasn't good enough to dodge it. Combined with an at least +7 mimic tear for the second phase, the fight lasted for about less than 5 minutes. Very new to the game and was scratching my head how people did two L2s but I managed to learn after many attempts.
Still works very well, +10 mimic is op with this weapon. Its my first time playing elden ring for real i had the game since the start but im no soul player so after a while i quit never came back. but recently i gave it a try again with youtube guides like yours. I killed him fast he didnt even had a chance for meteors, thank you.
Don't even bother doing this. Slap on the best armor you can get, doesn't matter if you're fat rolling. Get the best protection. Go upgrade the Serpent Spear to the maximum you can possibly upgrade it, I did it with +6 but +5 can work aswell. If you have any strength buffs or damage buffs in your Flask of Wonderous Physick, put it in there, if you can't handle the fat rolling you can put an equipment load buff in there to get you back to medium. Get the tankiest, juiciest, most succulent summon you could possibly get. I've tried all of them, and on this boss they are all equally useless. Hopefully maybe it'll aggro the boss once or twice, but you're really relying on yourself here. On the first phase, go for light attacks only, and only heavy attacks when the sucker is on the ground. Then on the second phase, find an opening and use heavy attacks which have far longer range. Also, when he spawns in the thousands of skulls with the red stuff, run your ass off. Then when the skulls are gone, charge him, wait for him to swing a few times, and when you find your opening hit him with some heavies. Then repeat until the sucker is down. It also helps to use Godricks great rune, which will give a strength, health, and overall nice damage buff. Good luck, this boss pissed me off and made me wanna smash my monitor. I wanna throttle the developers of this game sometimes.
This is how to easily defeat Rykard 1. Rebirth and max out your vigor 2. equip only the serpent sword 3. Mimic and win! 4. Rebirth back to your original attributes NOTE: There is only 18 times to rebirth!
I'm level 37 vigor. Only 19 strength, my mimic is maxed out, I summoned him and just spammed the serpent blade, used a few rock sling on both phases. Before I died 4 times trying to fight it like normal boss. Use the serpent blade lol. It becomes the easiest fight.
Thank you very much. After many attempts i tried your solution and i did it on the first try in no time. Thanks Now i need a hint with the dragon of "Farum Azula" that is giving me the same problems that Rykard gave me.😪😪
How to beat Rykard as a mage:
1) Forget that you are a mage
2) Take the spear
the rock sling stagger method works quite well actually ngl
I just rebirthed as a melee and it was so much easier

This helped me a lot! I actually defeated rykard after so many tries. cheers!
In other words fight him normally. Gee thanks.

Same! Not really a Souls player myself but was able to beat Rykard quite easily thanks to guides like these.
At 0:55 you used gravity magic and it stopped the column from hitting you . From software made this game beautifully 😮💨😮💨😮💨
You can also deflect them and arrows with the storm wall ash of war 👌
Don't even bother doing this.

Why i dont have the wind in my serpent hunter ?
2:39 my favorite music in the game it’s like Rykards pissed now he’s coming at you with full power
This is how to easily defeat Rykard
1. Rebirth and max out your vigor
2. equip only the serpent sword
3. Mimic and win!
4. Rebirth back to your original attributes
NOTE: There is only 18 times to rebirth!
This worked great
thank u man
The best comment ive ever seen the most useful comment lol
thanks man smart move worked like a charm
this is actually the easiest fucking option i am a noob and kept dying over and over again. Did this and beat him on my first try
Mate this took me so long to try and kill this boss first time using rock sling killed it easy!! What a great video!!!
The fact you can summon the mimic tear with your mage build makes me laugh. 😂
Glass cannon build for the.... I died, FOR THE WIN!
I'm level 37 vigor. Only 19 strength, my mimic is maxed out, I summoned him and just spammed the serpent blade, used a few rock sling on both phases. Before I died 4 times trying to fight it like normal boss. Use the serpent blade lol. It becomes the easiest fight.
this worked perfectly. just took 2 attempts thanks a lot :)
I guess I was looking for a strat wout the serpent hunter
Thank you very much. After many attempts i tried your solution and i did it on the first try in no time.
Thanks
Now i need a hint with the dragon of "Farum Azula" that is giving me the same problems that Rykard gave me.😪😪
Very helpful guide. Thank you!
Easiest fight of my life
I didn’t even know there were two parts 🤣🤣😭😭😭😭 omg
fuck the mage, i rebirth as melle just for this boss is actually so easy lmfao
Comet azure with terra magika doesn't just eat through him?
I ll try that and let you know the result
Not this time, mate
It doesn't let me use a summons when I fight Rykard. WTF lol
You might have had furled finger remedy active, unless you haven’t got the bell yet but that’s unlikely
Do u need to level up strength for the serpent sword to do good damage or does it do the same for everyone?
i levelled it up to +7 from memory
@@playmorgana3001 thanks, I’ll try beat him again tmrw. What abt strength attribute? Does that have any effect?
@@callumdoolox6498 I was mostly int and some dex with this build. Never put points into STR
hii do you know where i can find this sword? I tried looking and cant figure it out
the serpent spear is located in front of you when you enter the the boss fight
How tf do I use the swords abilities I’m so lost bro
F
What sword is this
serpent spear. its in front of you when you enter the arena
Honestly he wasn't that bad. I went in first try with my mimic and crushed both waves. Shabiri woe helped
0:30 01:56
I level 509 and cannot deafet this dhit
Lol can’t see anything 3:34 xD
just use comet azur ggez
Using this strat was the easiest time I've ever had killing this guy - great vid and strat! Thanks
Clevery😮
The rocks don't stun him, i think this is patched
Thats stance break, not stun. He use rock sling because it deals a ton of stance damage
You can just spam serpent hunter skill and get a free win tho
The rocks still knock him down, just tested. U need 3 casts and then 30s cooldown or something.
magic and summons sounds way too scummy for me.
It’s part of the game and your playing Pve it doesn’t matter.
